The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 299: Better place (3)
Chapter 299: Better place (3)
When Hazel proposed that they move Tobias’s things so he could share her room, she didn’t expect the chaos that would follow. Not more than an hour later, Hazel’s room was a mess with all the guards lifting what belonged to Tobias inside her bedroom.
"I fear that I might have made a mistake," Hazel muttered.
It might have made more sense for them to find a bigger room and move there. Her bedroom was already covered with books and now she had to make way for what belonged to Tobias. Hazel had not thought this through.
Daisy was also surprised by the room being flipped upside down. She was to be helping Hazel pick out the last of what she would wear to the king’s birthday ball tomorrow. How was she to do this when this was going on?
"Would you like to go for a walk in the gardens, Queen Hazel?" Daisy asked since Hazel shouldn’t stand here to witness this mess.
"I think that wouldn’t be so bad. Tobias is off somewhere making sure that all which belongs to him is sent here. I won’t see him until that is done. Let us go," Hazel said, turning around to leave her bedroom.
Daisy followed behind Hazel. She was the only maid left to care for Hazel as the others were dismissed and Daisy was yet to know why. Were there more people involved in what happened to Hazel?
’Does she trust me?’ Daisy wondered.
The only maid Daisy thought Hazel had trusted was Lynn. Lynn had gotten closer to Hazel than any of them could and no matter how hard Daisy tried, she couldn’t fill Lynn’s shoes.
"Would you like something warm to drink? It is a bit cold outside," said Daisy after looking at the snow gathering on the windows.
"No, thank you," Hazel turned down the offer.
Daisy frowned as once again Hazel turned down her offer for something to eat or drink. The first reason was that she had eaten at the duke’s estate before coming to the palace, but it was now hours later. Did Hazel not trust her?
"Queen Hazel, may I inquire about something?" Daisy asked as she could no longer hold back.
"You may," Hazel answered.
"Do you not trust me? This is the fourth time you have denied me getting you something to eat or drink and most times I was only bringing you water. If you feel like you cannot trust me, I completely understand if you want to replace me with another maid," Daisy offered.
Daisy would rather there be someone else who Hazel was comfortable with beside her rather than have Hazel second guess every offer she made.
"I trust you, Daisy. That is why you remain by my side right now. I must admit that I am not ready to accept drinks from anyone because I am not comfortable with it, but I do not require something to eat or drink right now. I just want to go for a walk," Hazel answered.
It was now Hazel realised that she failed to have a proper conversation with Daisy when she returned to the palace. She had sent away the other maids as she needed time to think about who she wanted to keep by her side.
It had to be weird for Daisy to not see her peers here with her. Daisy should know like everyone else what Julia had done. It had to be an eye-opener for Daisy to learn that someone she spent many of her days with was behind Hazel being without a child.
"I made the mistake of trying to go back to being normal rather than have a conversation with you. I don’t want to drink any tea for the next couple of weeks. I feel sick just from the sight of it these days. As for other drinks, I want the royal taste testers around before I drink. I want to have a child this time," Hazel said, touching her flat belly.
Eleanor had given Hazel hope that what she had been drinking would wear off if she stopped drinking it and started to drink a remedy that Eleanor could get her hands on.
All hope was not lost for Hazel to finally be a mother. Hazel planned to be more careful this time which was why she would not eat unless the food was inspected before her eyes and deemed safe.
"I understand. I will pray for it to happen. You shall make a wonderful mother," Daisy said, cheering Hazel on.
Hazel smiled. "We don’t know that yet."
"Of course you will. You have been kind to us since I came to your side. We are near the same age, but you give me a feeling like my mother does with the way that you care for me. I know that you will be a good mother," Daisy spoke confidently.
"Well, I shall take your word for it. I hope to be a good mother. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could somehow share news of being pregnant for the king’s birthday? The chances of that are low but I can still be hopeful," Hazel said, hoping someone was listening to answer this prayer. "I fear I might be an overprotective mother because of how long I have waited."
"It is perfectly fine. After a while, it would be easier to let the princess or prince out of your sight. As your maid, I should have been another pair of eyes for you to know what was happening around you. I shall be better this time," Daisy said, determined to improve so she could point out what Hazel missed.
"Thank you. You must keep watch of your surroundings as there will be others to try to remove you from my side. I shall not have a repeat of what happened to Lynn. I will protect you and everyone that I care for," Hazel promised.
Hazel was ready for whatever games anyone would like to play from this point on.
Hazel continued, "Let us make haste to the garden to clear our minds and then find a quiet room for me to do some planning. There is much for the me to get involved with as the queen."
