The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 307: Something new (3)
Chapter 307: Something new (3)
"Satisfied?" Hazel questioned.
She laid on top of Tobias in their now shared bedroom. He had succeeded in convincing her to leave the ball early so he could see his gift.
"For now. There is still some time left before we have to get up," Tobias replied, holding her in place so she would not leave him just yet.
Hazel rested her head on his bare chest. "You have tired me out and I have to be up soon to greet my parents. I will need to try not to yawn all day."
"Then, how about we just stay in bed?" Tobias proposed. His birthday celebration wasn’t over just because the day had passed.

"I cannot do that. They missed the ball so we must greet them today. All the work from planning the ball is now coming over me at once. I do not have the strength to move but I must," Hazel said and then yawned as the need to sleep came over her.
"You have been busy as of late. Get some more rest and I will keep your parents busy until you are ready. I don’t want them to think I am failing to protect you again," Tobias said, gently moving his hand up and down her back to help her fall back to sleep.
"My parents wouldn’t think that of you. You don’t have anything to worry about. My mother was apologetic in the letters she sent as she thought they neglected me by always being with Helena. There might be some crying done today so prepare yourself," Hazel warned Tobias.
Hazel closed her eyes, drifting back into sleep against her will. She wanted to fight it to stay up so she could greet her parents when they arrived. All she had been thinking about other than Tobias’s birthday was their return so why now did she need to be so sleepy?
"Stop fighting it and go to bed. You are acting like a child who wishes to stay up late," Tobias said.
"It is your fault that I am so tired. I will need to apologise to them for my tardiness," Hazel said, giving in to her body’s cry for sleep soon after.
Tobias stayed with Hazel for a few more hours as the sun came up, starting a new day for the kingdom. He tried not to disturb her as he left the bed to get dressed to meet her family when they arrived.
Tobias was the quietest he had ever been as he snuck out of the room. Outside he spotted Daisy waiting to get Hazel dressed for the day. "Let the queen rest a bit more and then get her dressed to meet with her parents. I shall send a guard to inform you of where her parents are. Do not let anyone disturb her before she has rested enough."
"Understood," Daisy replied, keeping her head bowed to avoid the king’s gaze. She hoped that Hazel had not become sick sometime during the ball. She failed to understand how the Wallaces ended up missing the ball.
Tobias left Hazel in Daisy’s hands. He was still keeping a close eye on Hazel’s maids and this one seemed to be trustworthy but he would never be able to fully trust the maids.
Tobias went down to the front doors that were already wide open to let in visitors. Already, he saw Hazel’s parents and her sister entering.
"Tobias," Renee called to him with open arms. "Please forgive us. There was trouble with our carriage last night as one of the wheels fell off and we ended up going off the road."
"It is my fault that we missed the ball. I was in a bit of pain after the crash so they took me to see a doctor as soon as we were able to get on another carriage. I didn’t mean to steal them,’ Helena said, not wanting there to be a misunderstanding.
If she had stayed at home like her husband told her to then her parents could have come to the palace after the accident. To make up for it, Helena came early with her parents despite her discomfort so she could be with Hazel.
After today, Helena would have her parents stay in Lockwood to look after Hazel. They had done plenty for her and now it was time that they spent more time with Hazel.
"It is fine. Hazel will care more that you are not injured. She enjoyed the ball and since you are here, last night will be forgotten. She is resting so I will be entertaining you for now. Along with the princess. Please excuse me for a moment," Tobias said, leaving the Wallaces to go to Sofia.
Sofia froze when she saw her brother coming her way. She shoved the treat her maid had snagged from the kitchen for her into her mouth so he would not scold her for having something so sweet already.
"You need to be more sneaky when you are hiding food, Sofia. The crumbs are to the side of your mouth as well. Are you free to join me with the Wallaces and then join me for a trip through the town? I might allow you to get out to get a few things you need," Tobias offered.
Sofia thought she had heard wrong that she would be able to leave the palace and it would not have anything to do with their duties. "I would like to come. I will be on my best behaviour. I swear!"
There was much Sofia wanted to see and do so she could not ruin this chance.
"Good. Help me keep the Wallaces busy and then we will part a little after Hazel shows up. Try not to bore them with your chatter," Tobias said, ruffling her hair a bit.
Sofia pushed his hands away from ruining her appearance and the maids behind her could not believe that the king had ruined their work.
Tobias laughed as he tried to help her tidy herself again. It was hard to believe that this was his same sister who once ran all around the palace, not caring about her hair as she just wanted it to be blowing in the wind as she ran. "You are growing too fast."
"Not fast enough," Sofia muttered. She wanted to leave the palace quickly but her time to find a husband was taking its time. "Do you think Hazel would want to play with me when we return?"
"No, she is tired," Tobias answered.
Sofia pouted as it was Hazel she wanted to be with but she would settle for Tobias.
