Chapter 314: Sharing news (1)

"You can’t ignore your work all day, Tobias. We have more than one day to prepare and celebrate without friends. You do not need to act like it is the end of the world," Hazel said, her fingers going through his hair as she spoke.

They switched seats as Hazel didn’t want to tire his leg by sitting on him too long. Now they sat on a long chair with Tobias laying his head on her lap and his hand on her belly as though there was something there he could feel.

They were lucky that he was normally clingy so his behaviour now wouldn’t be suspicious.

"I am too comfortable to move. Just a little longer," Tobias said, wanting to feel more. "We might need to change our room again. Would it be big enough for our things and a baby?"

"The baby isn’t to sleep with us. There will be a room picked so we can put all their things there. It wouldn’t hurt to have a second cradle in our room. There will be nights that I won’t want to leave caring for our child in the hands of someone else. I don’t trust others yet," Hazel confessed.

Her overprotectiveness wouldn’t end once she succeeded in giving birth to their baby. There was still going to be danger all around as some might not want her child to take the throne.

Hazel was going to keep her guard up as there could be others like Grant who wanted their daughter or granddaughter on the throne and what happened to Grant wasn’t enough to stop them.

"If it must be that way, I prefer for it to be a room beside us so we can quickly walk over to the other side. I will take care of that. It will be my surprise for you" said Tobias.

He could hardly wait to be able to freely decorate the room so picking one would satisfy him for now.

"I will leave it to you. I want to get up now, Tobias. You might have set aside your work but there are things I want to do before the doctor tells me that I must limit what I do. Why don’t you go tell Edgar the good news and tell the duchess for me? I would love to join you but I don’t want to do any travelling now," Hazel said, trying to distract him.

She would love it if Tobias would return with Alessandra and Edgar so they could celebrate in secret. Then she could send a message to Linda for her to come to the palace. They could all have dinner here to celebrate the moment. Even her parents were free to join.

Tobias sat up as it sounded like a good idea to rub this in Edgar’s face right now. "But it wouldn’t be good for me to leave you right now. I will go another time. We can plan a day to tell them at once and have dinner right after."

"That sounds good. Hopefully, Linda would come to the palace. I have not seen much of her these days because there is still a bit of talk about her brothers and fathers being traitors. What more can we do to end that? Kenneth helped us yet the town wants to paint him evil," Hazel said, failing to see how others came to that conclusion.

How was it that Kenneth helped against Grant but many still believed that he was in on trying to harm her? The people spreading this lie just wanted any reason to completely ruin the Hensons.

"She wants to get married next season so she can’t have this attached to her. We’ve already rewarded Kenneth for his efforts with Grant and Liam for finding the doctor. I am stuck on what to do now," Hazel said, trying her hardest to come up with something.

"Why are you so worried when she has been courting that man named David?" Tobias revealed.

"What?" Hazel exclaimed, surprised by this as Linda had not told her. "How do you know David? You never spoke of the two of you meeting."

Tobias thought it should be obvious. After Helena spoke of a man Hazel was once close to being in the palace, Tobias kept an eye on David. He never had to worry about Hazel looking at another man but his wife was so pretty that men couldn’t help looking at her.

"I never spoke to him but I know what he looks like and it was twice that she came to visit that I saw those two quite close. They might get married," Tobias believed. It seemed like it was a well-suited match.

"That cannot be. Maybe you have seen wrong because Linda was friends with David as well. You might have seen two friends catching up. That must be it," Hazel said, certain she was right.

Tobias frowned as he didn’t like how she couldn’t believe David was courting Linda. "I know what I saw. There is only one person I saw her blushing around and that person was Edgar. Something is going on between the two of them."

"Then, why wouldn’t she tell me? Even in the letters that we share? I would love it if she ended up with David. He is not a bad person and we both knew him from our youth. I see him a few times when he is here so why wouldn’t he mention it to me? I must call her to the palace tomorrow," Hazel said, pushing Tobias away as she had something important to do.

Tobias was offended that Linda was now coming before him. "Is it that important?"

"Of course it is! You are the same one who snuck out of the palace when you heard Edgar had gotten married. This is important for me as she might be getting married. She must want help to hide it from her brothers and father. You have brought good news as well," Hazel said, kissing Tobias goodbye.

"I should have kept my mouth shut," Tobias muttered, watching helplessly as Hazel left him alone, taking their baby with her.
