Chapter 315: Sharing news (2)

Hazel sent out letters to her family and friends, seeking answers to when they would be free to visit the palace as she had something to share. Now, she only had to wait as they would come when they could to see her.

Hazel could wait as she knew that they had to be busy with their lives as well. After being away from each other for a few days it would make the reunion far sweeter.

A day passed since Hazel found out about the baby and after speaking with the doctor alongside Tobias, she decided to lessen her schedule to stay safe.

Tobias thought ahead to have reports of what was being discussed in the court sent to her and from her bedroom, Hazel started to plan upcoming events now while she had the time. They were to expect the arrival of a leader from the border who turned out to be a woman. Hazel wanted to make sure the leader’s stay would be pleasant.

Hazel now took a break so she could do a bit of planning for the arrival of the child.

"There is a man in town said to make the best rocking horses for children. I can place an order for you if you would like. It is my day to be out of the palace tomorrow."

"Find out the price and I shall give it to you. Though it might be better to call upon him to the palace in the future as it might help his business if it is known we use him. Instead, can you search around for books that are popular to read to babies? Mine are hardly good for some adults," Hazel said, looking at the filled shelves.

She started to consider moving those kinds of books to her library and leaving the ones she didn’t have to warn others not to open here.

"I can do that! I shall have many brought back to you when I return to the palace. Do you still want me to get what you need to learn how to make a blanket?" Daisy asked.

"I do," Hazel replied, taking down some of her books as she spoke. "I want to make at least one thing for my child. I hope my embroidery skills can help me. I shall make one for a girl and one for a boy. I used to have such a soft blanket in my youth. My mother added a flower design to it. I want to recreate it."

"I am sure you will succeed. I have informed the head maid of what you need so it should all be brought up by dinner. My queen, I suggest that you walk around so no one is suspicious of why you are in your room. We all grew so used to you being busy. Going to the court regularly. There are questions about you being sick," Daisy revealed.

After breakfast, it became a normal sight for her and Hazel to be heading to the court but it suddenly stopped.

"I will go down to the gardens later since my mother is coming for a visit, but I promised my husband that I would not leave my room while he is out of the palace. The duke has called upon him which is quite strange," Hazel said, worried something might have happened to Alessandra or Edgar. "He will share the news with them today."

Hazel wished she could have travelled with Tobias so she could tell Alessandra herself, but she was too nervous to get in the carriage.

"I see. Then, should I say you have a small cold and you are staying in your room to avoid others getting sick? Saying nothing will leave room for many to come up with their ideas of why you are hiding. Their first thought might be that you are pregnant," said Daisy.

"A cold would work. It would not be too far from the truth. Do not make it obvious that you are trying to hide something. Just speak of a cold if you are asked about my health. Remind me to gather a few flowers as a gift for my mother. I should get Sofia to help me put together a few. Where is the princess?" Hazel asked as she hadn’t seen Sofia all day.

"The princess is meeting with a young lady. Then she is to leave to see her mother. At least that is what I heard the princess’s maid say. I can send word that you would like to see the princess."

"Do not. If she has a friend in the palace, we should leave her be. I must share the news with Sofia as well. Make a note of it to have her join the king and me for dinner here tonight. She will be excited," Hazel said as she knew Sofia wanted someone younger to play with. "I-"

"Hazel!" Tobias called for her as he pushed the doors open. "They’ve beat us to it. Could you believe it?"

"Welcome back," Hazel greeted him whilst motioning for Daisy to go lock the door behind him. "Who has beaten us?"

"Who else but Alessandra and Edgar? They are expecting a child. They found out about it recently just before we did," Tobias revealed.

It was not in his cards that the reason Edgar called upon him to his estate was to share that Alessandra was pregnant. His moment to rub his baby in Edgar’s face was ruined.

Hazel couldn’t believe the news. What were the chances that she got to experience this with Alessandra? "That is wonderful news. I must send another letter to her to celebrate."

"I was hoping we could beat them but it is good news. Our children might marry if this all goes well. There won’t be a need for a selection since it is decided. The Duchess is sorry that she cannot come to see you yet. She was sick and it was Edgar’s mother who helped her. Not everyone can change," Tobias added before she thought about his mother.

The Duchess and her mother-in-law were off to a difficult start, but Tobias didn’t think their relationship was as bad as how his mother once treated Hazel. It was too soon to be expecting a change with his mother and wife.
