The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 318: Regret (1)
Chapter 318: Regret (1)
"Why aren’t you making use of the large dining hall you have here? Your guests may be confused as to why we are having dinner in one of the bedrooms instead of there," said Renee.
"The doctor has given me a list of food from his test which he thinks I should avoid if I want to keep this hidden a little longer, but he says all women are different so there might be something he hasn’t added to his list to upset me. I don’t want any of the maids inside or outside the dining hall to see me covering my mouth or vomiting," Hazel explained.
Once the maids knew that she was expecting a child, it would spread like wildfire through the palace. The bedroom Hazel picked gave them more privacy to speak as they liked.
"I see. Well, at least if your father passes out from the news, there is a bed for us to place him on and go back to dinner. You can sit while I finish tidying up."
"Mother, I am not unable to do things as yet. I don’t want any of you to treat me like I must stay still. Let me move around while I can and want to. Tobias has already shared that he cannot wait for when I will be big. The fool," Hazel muttered.
She didn’t want to think of the time she would have to depend on others or when she could not fit into the dresses she had now.
Renee laughed. "It reminds me of the times your father would try to avoid having to comment on how I looked when I was pregnant. He felt like there wasn’t a right or wrong answer because of how I never seemed pleased. Trust me, there will be a day when Tobias says nothing."
"Then, you don’t know my husband well. He says what comes to mind. Sometimes I love him for it and other times you have learned that I must kick him out of the room. I am almost certain we might have a mini Tobias. Hopefully, they don’t give me trouble like Tobias gave his mother," said Hazel.
Renee didn’t think that would happen since Hazel wasn’t anything like Tabitha. Renee wasn’t around the former queen much when raising her children, but just from what she knew about how Tabitha poked at Hazel despite Tobias being in love, Renee wouldn’t place her the same as Hazel.
Children would rebel and cause trouble when you didn’t listen to them or tried to force your way on them. Renee was nervous about how an evening with Tabitha might go. She wasn’t planning on ruining Hazel’s evening but should there be something she didn’t like said, Renee wasn’t confident she could hold her tongue.
"Girls," Nathan said as he entered the room, a maid closed the door behind him. "You two gave me a fright. Did something happen?"
After receiving a message and having a carriage sent for him, Nathan was worried for the entire ride here as the note said he needed to come to the palace urgently. Renee had plans just to be with Hazel and then return so when she didn’t and a carriage was sent instead, he thought the worst.
"Is it just for dinner?" Nathan questioned, looking at the plates and food already placed. "Honestly, couldn’t you have told the messenger that?"
"Mother was the one to pass on the message. Oh, Sofia," Hazel noticed the princess. "You came at the perfect time."
"I was told there was going to be a surprise so I didn’t want to be late. Are we truly eating with my parents and your family?" Sofia asked.
It was the first time in a long time so it was hard to believe that it was happening. Sofia had grown accustomed to not seeing her mother and Hazel together. She liked it that way as she didn’t have to witness the awkwardness.
When her mother and Hazel were together, Sofia saw something she didn’t like which made it weird to be around her mother.
"Your parents will be coming here soon. I’ve made a bouquet for you and one for your mother. Do you like it?" Hazel asked, trying to distract Sofia from overthinking about dinner.
"I do,’ Sofia answered, going over to see which one belonged to her.
Hazel was glad she thought of making one for Sofia and Tabitha for this evening. It served as a good distraction.
"How cruel of my wife to kick me out of our room and then hold a dinner with my parents. You are doing this to bother me, aren’t you?" Tobias questioned, going behind Hazel to hug her. "I’ve always told you to punish me in other ways."
Hazel blushed, turning to see if her parents heard him but they were busy speaking with Sofia. "You fool. Do not say something like that when my parents are near. Do you want my father to stop speaking to you?"
"Relax Hazel," Tobias kissed her neck to help with it. "They don’t know what punishment I want. Now, for how long must I play nice during this dinner?"
"All through it and then I will let you back into our bedroom tonight. Unless someone says something rude, then you must be nice. Your sister is present and I don’t want to argue before her. Promise me," Hazel said, offering her hand to Tobias for a deal to be made.
"I am not terrible to ruin the evening for my pregnant wife. I will play nice but I can’t say the same for those two. I am going to have a drink or not," Tobias changed his mind.
"You can have a drink, Tobias. It would not upset me. I had drinks brought here for anyone who wants them. Please enjoy yourself," Hazel advised Tobias. She was never one to drink unless it was a special occasion so to go without drinking at all was easy.
"No. I will join you in not drinking. Sounds like we have company," Tobias said, holding Hazel’s hand after the doors opened.
Tabitha and Jeffrey entered the room side by side.
"Thank you for making the long ride here,’ Hazel spoke first, trying to get rid of the tension that filled the room.
"We can always make the trip if we are invited to the palace. With an invitation that was personally from the queen, we have to be here. Thank you," Jeffrey thanked Hazel as without her, he knew they wouldn’t have been invited to dinner.
Tobias certainly wouldn’t invite them.
Hazel looked at Tobias to see if he would return the greeting. She was satisfied when he at least looked his parent’s way. She wouldn’t push him to do more "You are welcome. We can all sit now that everyone is here. We mustn’t let the food go cold."
Hazel walked with Tobias to the table. Her parents were seated to the right of her while Sofia was to the left then Tabitha and Jeffrey beside Sofia.
Hazel remained standing with Tobias so she could make the announcement. "We’ve called you here for a special reason. The beginning of our marriage was challenging. Despite that, Tobias and I remained hopeful of one thing. We’ve been given the good news that we are to have our first child. We wanted to tell all of you before we informed the kingdom."
Nathan stood up from his seat. Another one of his babies was going to have a baby. Jeffrey shared the excitement as he looked forward to being a grandfather and Sofia was excited to have someone younger to play with.
Tabitha was thrilled by the news as she had always wanted Tobias to have his heir. She smiled and clapped for the two but then quickly felt out of place.
