The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 96: Left in the dark (2)
Chapter 96: Left in the dark (2)
"Hazel, I am so happy for you," Linda said, trying to hold back her need to hug Hazel. She was warned against it by Grant. "Is everything alright? Where did they take you before?"
"Thank you and I am fine. The queen took me to get one of her tiaras to wear today. I’m sorry that I didn’t come right to you. I am following the queen’s lead at the moment," Hazel said, hoping Linda didn’t feel left out. "I would love nothing more than the two of us finding a nice corner to speak."
"Oh, don’t worry about me. I’m more concerned about how you are feeling. I will be able to visit you in the future with my grandfather when he comes to meetings in the palace. You won’t be alone forever," said Linda.
Tobias looked at Grant, who was just as annoying as Linda’s brothers but was well respected. He was annoying because of his habit of always mentioning traditions for how men and women should act. Tobias didn’t want to be schooled while he was having a conversation with anyone.
Unfortunately, he had to stomach the Hensons because of Hazel’s friendship with Linda. He was lucky that the three brothers rarely entered the palace unless they had to speak about war or were attending an event with their family.
"We can’t keep you two away from each other. Linda was already panicking about what she would do with you in the palace. It will be time to make new friends, but you’ll see each other soon. I am happy for you," Grant said, patting Hazel’s shoulder. "I knew you would go far."
"Thank you, Grant. I hope to sit and talk to you whenever you come to the palace whether Linda is with you or not. I would love seeing a familiar face often," Hazel said, not feeling like she would be alone when the Hensons were making plans to see her.
"Don’t encourage these two," Kenneth said.
"I’m afraid I must because I will miss seeing all of you daily," Hazel replied.
"Hmm. I can finally get Linda to stay home. I am joking," Kenneth laughed because of Linda glaring at him. "I need you to be safe in the palace, Hazel. If there is anything you need or your father needs, you can call us. You are practically a Henson. I don’t care if the target is the prince," Kenneth said, ignoring Tobias’s presence.
He swore to protect the royals and the kingdom, but his family always came first and because of how much Hazel was in his life, she was like a second daughter to him. She came before the prince just as Linda came before the queen.
Tobias didn’t mind that Kenneth was making it known he would finish a fight for Hazel. She needed the allies by her side. Some that were more loyal to her than they were to him. He was trying to get closer to the Hensons since they controlled most of the army and needed to stay close to his family. Hazel had provided him with a way of getting closer to Kenneth.
"Prince Tobias, congratulations on becoming a man going into marriage. I hope the king not only gives you advice on how to run a kingdom, but how to run a household. You are the head and Hazel will follow your lead. Don’t make any decisions here that will trouble Hazel and make your household crumble," said Grant.
"Fucking hell," Tobias muttered.
As if he wanted marriage advice from the man who didn’t allow his wife to speak unless she was addressed. Tobias had no plans of following many of the rules men wanted for his wife because then Hazel would be like every other wife.
He liked that she was not shy and didn’t bite her tongue for him and she was always herself.
Grant could keep his advice to himself or save it for the three grandsons who were yet to marry.
’I wouldn’t be surprised if he is one of the men who wants the marriage age to lower,’ Tobias thought.
It was the first meeting he planned to attend without receiving an invitation as he wanted to see the faces of those who wanted the age for women to marry to go back down. Those bastards shouldn’t get anywhere near his younger sister.
Hazel nudged Tobias. She didn’t like the things Grant said most of the time if the conversation was about marriage or how a lady should act, but she didn’t want Grant to be another person Tobias was at odds with. Not when Grant was an important man in the town and Tobias will need the Hensons in the future.
"I can’t do this. I can’t be without my best friend," Linda said, her eyes filling with tears. She knew that at some point they were going to marry and be busy with their families, but she always imagined they would see each other every other day and they’d be around to help each other plan weddings.
"You’ll be fine and like you said, you will come visit me. I don’t know if I can, but I will try sending you invitations to the palace. Can I?" Hazel asked Tobias.
"You can as long as it doesn’t interfere with your preparation to become queen. Again, use the connections you have with my father liking you and your father to ask for what you want. Don’t be shy," said Tobias. frёewebnoѵēl.com
"There, I will invite you on days that I have time to spare. We will be fine," Hazel said, certain that the distance wouldn’t change anything. Their friendship was strong enough to bear them not seeing each other for days. "When we meet, we’ll have plenty of stories to share."
"Right," Linda nodded her head. She’ll bring all the news from the town to Hazel and Hazel could fill her in on palace drama. "I shouldn’t ruin this day for you with my tears."
"I am really enjoying your attempt not to cry, but yes, you shouldn’t cry so no one knows the secret that you have an ugly face when you cry," Hazel joked.
"I do not," Linda replied, hiding her face with her hands. "Forget it. I am not happy for you anymore."
"Linda, do you mind going to your mother with Hazel so I can have a quick word with the prince?" Kenneth asked, placing his hand on Tobias’s shoulder to keep him from leaving.
"I am certain you are breaking one of the laws by touching me," Tobias said, looking down at Kenneth’s hand on his shoulder. "Stop touching me."
"Father, you can’t threaten the prince," Linda said, her tears going away now that her father was gripping the prince’s shoulder. Hazel already had an overprotective father. She didn’t need one more.
"I am not going to threaten him. There is something important I need to discuss with the prince and now is the only time that I have. Please go to your mother. This will be quick," Kenneth promised.
Hazel didn’t believe Kenneth. "I think that I should stay close to Tobias. I am only allowed to walk around because he is by my side. I must stay close."
"Very well, you can come too. Excuse us father," Kenneth said, surprising Grant. It was a matter he wanted to speak about alone with Tobias. Nothing that his father needed to worry about.
