These Familiars Are Strange-Chapter 296: Invasion (15)
Yun Tian and I were the ones that took the lead when we headed into this cave.
The night vision goggles that we wore allowed us to see, but it was a different kind of night vision goggle that we used.
Since there was no light in here at all, we had no choice but to use thermal imaging instead.
After all, night vision goggles don’t work if there is no light at all to amplify.
The only thing that could be done was to use heat signatures, but it was hard as well since there wasn’t much heat that was coming from inside of this cave.
It was just a good thing that there were bugs in here that helped by absorbing the heat in the surrounding area which gave us a good image of how this cave was shaped. The problem was the number of bugs that were in this cave.
For Iris...it was a problem.
That was solved by her taking off her night vision goggles and just grabbing onto me to let me lead her into the cave.
As we headed deeper, I relied on the Astral White Tiger to lead the way.
There really was too little that could be seen in this place, so we had to rely on it to lead us forward. Though I did make sure to tightly hold onto it so that it wouldn’t be able to run forward without me.
That was just how excited the Astral White Tiger seemed about whatever it was sensing.
After a while, I said, "Switch to the other mode, it seems like there’s something in front of us."
Hearing this, all of us switched over to normal night vision mode instead of the thermal mode. Before we weren’t able to see anything because there was no light for the night vision goggles to amplify.
But now it seemed that there were faint traces of light that were coming from in front of us.
These faint traces of light allowed the night vision goggles to work once more.
However, that also meant that there was something that was right in front of us producing that light.
No matter how one thought about it, it should be whatever was drawing in the Astral White Tiger. It was just that last time, it was the Abyss Demons that drew in the Astral White Tiger.
Since the Astral White Tiger still seemed agitated...That should mean that it was the Abyss Demons again that was in front of us. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
I wasn’t the only one that had this thought as it was clear that everyone had figured this out with the way that they pulled out their weapons.
But it wasn’t as if we were here for a fight either.
We were just here to see what the plan of the Abyss Demons was, so it wouldn’t end in a fight if it didn’t have to end in a fight.
With the night vision goggles, we were able to sneak up on the people in front of us.
Though to call them people wasn’t right since they were Abyss Demons.
The strange thing about these Abyss Demons was that they were holding pickaxes and it seemed like they had just come back from hard work.
It seemed like they were doing something in this cave under the ground.
"Do you have a map?" I asked Yun Tian after seeing these Abyss Demons with the pickaxes.
Yun Tian gave a nod before taking out the map that I wanted.
He didn’t hand it over and took a close look at it before pointing at a spot on the map.
I didn’t actually know what this map marked, so the only thing that I could do was wait to see what he had to say.
It didn’t take long for the expressions of everyone in Yun Tian’s group to change as they all seemed to realize something that they didn’t say out loud.
It took a while, but Yun Tian finally looked back at me and gave a nod to confirm what I was thinking.
This cave seemed to be under the portal out of the Abyss.
At the same time, it seemed like they were digging under the defensive line that we had set up.
When Yun Tian confirmed this, I started looking in a different direction.
I didn’t look in the direction that the Abyss Demons were heading in, but the opposite direction that they came from. After all, I could already tell that the direction that they were heading in was right under our defensive lines.
I was curious just how far they had come from for us not to have noticed them.
Yun Tian also saw this, so he started leading the way over.
Though this time, it was the scout of Yun Tian’s team that took the lead.
This time, he used his skills to make sure that the Abyss Demons didn’t notice us as we headed in the completely opposite direction.
After following this cave for a bit, we arrived at what seemed to be another exit.
However, Yun Tian didn’t leave through that exit as he just sent the scout of his team out on his own.
When he came back, the scout pointed at a spot on the map again.
This spot was far away from the spot that they had pointed at before, showing that it was a place that was far away from the exit portal of the Abyss.
But there was a mark on the map where he pointed.
Seeing that way that I looked at the map, Yun Tian explained, "This is a known Abyss Demon camp, but we haven’t ever cleared it out because it’s filled with many Abyss Demons. It can even be considered one of their main camps."
After he said this, he looked back at the map with a look of deep thought and said, "For them to dig this far, it seems like the Abyss Demons have been planning this for a long time..."
