Chapter 334: Chapter 323: We Used to Be Close

Gu Yan’s sinister smile spread across his cherubic face, brimming with cold-bloodedness as he mercilessly withdrew the knife and stabbed it in again.

"Ah, ugh..." Gu Yaoqin’s entire body shook violently, twisted, her head banging against the wall in pain, at this moment just wishing to die and be done with it!

"Wuwu, wuwu..." Gu Lingyi, having been kicked by Mu Qinnian twice earlier, especially that one on her chest, was hurting so much over her breastbone that she had no strength as she leaned against the back of the chair. Watching Gu Yan’s ruthless act was absolutely horrifying, her mouth involuntarily letting out sobbing sounds, tears falling like rain.

Xiao Nanqing and Lei Yicheng watched Gu Yan stab Gu Yaoqin as if fueled by adrenaline, both their faces involuntarily twitching.

The usual coward who seemed too afraid to even kill a chicken in front of them was clearly just putting on an act!

Mu Qinnian stared coldly at Gu Yan, "Had enough stabbing?"

Gu Yan glanced at him, seeing his frighteningly ugly expression, a chill climbing up his spine.

Regret seeped in; why did he have to snatch the knife from him? Was there a shortage of knives in the basement? Seriously?

"Had enough? Give me the knife!" Mu Qinnian said instead.

"..." Gu Yan grimaced, swiftly handing the knife to him, not satisfied yet, he gave Gu Yaoqin another kick, spitting, "Scum!"

Xiao Nanqing raised an eyebrow, turning around to find his former chair was now occupied by Lei Yicheng. His phoenix-like eyes squinted slightly.

Lei Yicheng pouted at him, a bit of a provocative gesture.

Xiao Nanqing elegantly rolled his eyes, turning back to Mu Qinnian and said, "Do whatever you want, just don’t kill them." He chuckled coldly, "Their lives are already claimed by someone."

Mu Qinnian hummed, "Mind handing me some chili water?"

Chili water...

Xiao Nanqing and the others shrugged simultaneously, "You always have a way!"

Xiao Nanqing looked at Lei Yicheng, "This is your domain, better get to it?"

Lei Yicheng hesitated for two seconds, then got up and walked out of the basement.

Xiao Nanqing, as he wished, lazily sunk back into the chair. Watching such bloody drama was exhausting!

Gu Yan glanced at Xiao Nanqing, then squinted and headed straight towards Gu Lingyi.

"Woo... woo..."

Gu Yan stopped in front of her, coldly staring at her, his voice devoid of any warmth, as chilling as ice, "Since I was born, I never thought there’d be a day I’d hit a woman. Miss Gu, you’re quite capable, breaking my bottom line."

Gu Lingyi frantically shook her head, the extreme panic causing her eyes to roll back epileptically.

Unmoved, Gu Yan raised his leg and delivered a fierce kick.

Gu Lingyi, along with the chair, slid far out in an instant.

Her abdomen, once again brutally kicked, made Gu Lingyi break out in cold sweat from the pain, struggling to breathe.

Gu Yan walked to the side, pulled out a military knife hanging on the damp wall, and slowly approached Gu Lingyi.

Gu Lingyi’s eyes nearly popped out of her sockets in terror, her eyeballs trembling wildly, "Wuwu, wuwu..."

Gu Yan, handsomely gripping the military knife, tapped her head with the back of the knife, "Should I chop your head off directly, or just peel off the top layer of your scalp?"

"Woo..." Gu Lingyi shook her head, pleading as she looked at Gu Yan.

Gu Yan squinted, abruptly withdrawing the military knife, "Though I really want to chop you with just one stroke, now is not the time. But you should know, if I put an end to you now, it’s far more fortunate than what you will have to endure later."

Gu Lingyi’s whole body trembled violently, her eyes blood-red, looking at Gu Yan in terror.

Gu Yan sneered, a clanging sound as he threw the military knife on the floor.

Gu Lingyi shivered as she looked at the knife on the ground, never in her life had she felt so desperate as today.

She even felt that she might not make it out of there alive!

At three in the morning, Jin Jumo woke up once, seeing the man whose tense expression gripped her hand the moment her eyes opened. After a while, she finally squeezed out a hoarse voice from her throat like an old woman’s, "It really is you..."

"It’s me." Rong Mochen’s dark eyes were bloodshot, half-kneeling by her bedside, tightly holding her hand with one hand, gently brushing her sweat-dampened hair aside with the other.

Jin Jumo’s tears slid down her cheeks, she weakly blinked her long, wet lashes, "What about Xixi and Hanhan?"

Rong Mochen glanced at the two children sound asleep on the large bed next to him, "They’re okay."

Jin Jumo struggled to lift her eyelids to look in his direction, seeing the two children safe and sound, she closed her eyes again and fell into a deep sleep.

Rong Mochen watched the shimmering tears on her lashes, his heart aching sharply, leaned over, and gently kissed away the tears from her lashes and cheeks one by one.

The next morning, Xixi’s emotions had stabilized a lot, but the whole person was downcast and much quieter.

Since waking up, Hanhan stayed by Jin Jumo’s side, holding her hand, not leaving even for a step.

Gu Yan brought Xixi’s favorite sugar-coated buns, and Xixi reluctantly ate only two, also only drinking half a bowl of porridge, which Gu Yan coaxed her into having for quite a while.

In the afternoon, Jin Jumo woke up again from a heavy sleep. The translucent light spilling through the window gave her a surreal feeling, as if she was in another world.

"Mom, you’re awake?" Hanhan lay on the bed, her dark eyes staring intently at Jin Jumo, her tone uncertain.

Jin Jumo’s vacant gaze slowly focused, and when it met Hanhan’s tender white face, it gradually filled with light. A gentle smile appeared on her pale face, her voice still hoarse, "Baby, come here so mommy can kiss you."

On a normal day, Hanhan would have turned red with embarrassment and run away.

But not today. Hanhan’s ears were a bit red, but his big eyes were even redder. Hearing Jin Jumo’s words, his little mouth quivered, repressing something, slowly crawling towards her and giving her a kiss on the face.

It was only when he got closer that Jin Jumo heard the sobbing sound Hanhan was trying hard to hold back in his throat.

Her heart ached terribly. Jin Jumo lifted her hand, gently touching Hanhan’s quivering little face, the corners of her eyes prickling with tears, "I’m sorry."

Hanhan didn’t speak, burying his head and giving Jin Jumo’s face several more kisses.

Jin Jumo laughed with reddening eyes, her hand gently patting his soft little head, "Where’s your sister?"

"Mommy..." A small voice came from the other side of Jin Jumo’s head.

Jin Jumo’s brows twitched slightly, turning her head to the other side.

Straight into her sight was Xixi, her big eyes filled with tears looking at her, a tender little face about to burst into tears, held back, turning red.

Jin Jumo’s heart almost shattered, "Xixi, come to mommy." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Xixi emerged from between Rong Mochen’s legs, her short legs struggling to climb onto the bed, resting her little head next to Jin Jumo’s face, kissing her just like her brother.

Jin Jumo’s face felt wet, the saliva and tears of the little girl on it.

Surviving such an ordeal, seeing these two little ones well and right in front of her, Jin Jumo felt that nothing could be luckier than this.

Xixi and Hanhan lay on the side of the bed facing Jin Jumo’s face. Since Jin Jumo woke up, the two little ones hadn’t had the heart to move their eyes away, staring at her relentlessly.

Jin Jumo also gazed at the two little ones, not wanting to blink, gently reaching out to stroke their small faces or heads from time to time.

Evidently, the trio had completely forgotten there was another person in the room!

Rong Mochen pressed his lips together, his black eyes teeming with tides, deeply gazing at Jin Jumo.

Right now, she only focused on looking at Xixi and Hanhan. Since she woke up, she hadn’t spared him a glance.

Rong Mochen couldn’t help but wonder if she was blaming him for not appearing in time to save them, causing the kids to be scared and herself to suffer such serious injuries!

The hands drooping at his sides had already clenched tightly out of unawareness, the veins faintly visible on the back of his hands.

Around four in the afternoon, Mu Qinnian, Gu Yan and the others seemed to have arranged it, all squeezing into the small room, everyone taking turns speaking to Jin Jumo, unconsciously pushing Rong Mochen to the outer circle.

Jin Jumo’s bedside was taken up on one side by Mu Qinnian, and the remaining side by Gu Yan and the others.

Perhaps seeing Jin Jumo awake, everyone appeared somewhat relaxed, the atmosphere not too oppressive.

Xixi’s nature was, after all, quite lively and imaginative.

Seeing Jin Jumo awake now, her whole self seemed to brighten instantly, although not completely back to normal, her change still allowed Gu Yan to breathe a sigh of relief.

He feared this incident would leave a psychological shadow on the little girl.

Now it seemed, there was an impact, but perhaps not enough to cast a shadow, after all, the little girl was only four years old, her innate personality unchanged.

It’s just that returning fully to how she was before might take some time.

Lei Yicheng and Xiao Nanqing stayed in the room for over half an hour before leaving due to commitments.

Rong Mochen frowned, eyeing Mu Qinnian and Gu Yan separately, the intention to dismiss them clear in his dark eyes.

Unfortunately, Gu Yan was busy happily playing with Xixi Hanhan, not noticing him at all.

As for Mu Qinnian, he outrightly didn’t care for Rong Mochen’s intentions.

Rong Mochen’s face turned a dark shade, his mind restless, instinctively reaching for the cigarettes in his pant pocket, pulling out a pack and lighter, drawing a cigarette and lighting it.

"Is this how President Rong takes care of patients?" Mu Qinnian stared at Rong Mochen, sneering.

As soon as Mu Qinnian spoke, everyone’s eyes turned onto Rong Mochen, including Jin Jumo’s.

The moment their eyes met, it felt like sparks were crackling in the air— well, don’t overthink it, it was merely the annoyance’s anger in someone’s eyes.

Jin Jumo lightly bit her lip, her brows subtly furrowed.
