Chapter 285: Chapter 285; Celestial King 2

Long Tian’s eyes glistened, centuries of composure completely abandoned. "Tell her I’m sorry. Tell her I should have found Kailani sooner. Tell her I love her. Tell her to hold on, that I’m coming for her."

"I will, Father. And I’ll tell Kailani too, that we’ve been searching for her all this time. That we never stopped looking."

With that, Long Chen severed the connection. The projection flickered and died, leaving him alone in his apartment with only his racing thoughts and mounting fear.

He didn’t waste another second.

Long Chen grabbed his phone, shoved it in his pocket, and bolted for the door. His sports car keys were already in his hand, the familiar weight grounding him as his mind spun through worst-case scenarios.

His mother, who could barely lift a cup of tea, had somehow found the strength to leave her deathbed, transform into human form, cross realms, and travel to the surface. All for one chance to see the daughter she’d thought lost forever.

The sheer force of will that would require, and the devastating cost to her already failing body.....

He didn’t want to think about what state he might find her in.

Long Chen took the stairs three at a time, too impatient for the elevator. His heart pounded as he emerged into the underground parking garage, his footsteps echoing off the concrete as he sprinted to where his car waited.

The black sports car roared to life the moment he turned the key, the engine’s growl matching his urgency. He reversed out of the spot with a screech of tires, then shot forward toward the exit ramp.

The early morning streets were relatively empty, dawn just breaking over the city. Long Chen pushed the accelerator harder, weaving through what little traffic there was with practiced precision.

His hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned white.

"Hold on, Mother," he muttered under his breath as the car surged forward. "Hold on....."

Lu Yuze’s estate was on the outskirts of the city, perhaps twenty minutes away in normal traffic. Long Chen intended to make it in ten.

The sports car flew through intersections, the rising sun painting the sky in streaks of gold and pink. His mind raced faster than the engine.

Five years. They’d been searching for Shuyin for five years. His mischievous little sister who’d slipped away for what she probably thought would be a quick adventure. Who’d gotten lost or trapped or somehow prevented from returning home. Five years of his mother slowly dying from grief, convinced her daughter was gone forever.

And now, finally, after he met Kailani and confirmed she was alive and well and married on the surface, his mother had heard and made one final, desperate journey to see her baby again.

What would he find when he arrived? His mother collapsed? Dying? Already gone? And Kailani, did she even realize how much time had passed? Did she know their mother had been dying from grief all these years?

The questions multiplied with each passing second, each one more terrifying than the last.

Long Chen pushed the car faster, the speedometer climbing as he hit a clear stretch of road. Traffic laws were meaningless right now. Nothing mattered except reaching that mansion, reaching his mother and sister.

The city began to thin out as he reached the wealthier districts, estates hidden behind high walls and elaborate gates. Long Chen closed his eyes briefly at a red light, reaching out with his senses to find that familiar signature, Kailani’s aura, that distinctive golden warmth he’d grown up knowing.

There. To the east, that shimmer of celestial energy that could only be his sister.

He followed her aura like a beacon, letting it guide him through the unfamiliar wealthy neighborhoods. Turn left here, continue straight, the pull growing stronger with each passing moment.

And beneath Kailani’s bright golden presence, he could feel it, a fainter, flickering silver essence that made his chest tighten with fear.

Mother.

She’d made it. Against all odds, his dying mother had made it to Kailani.

But that faint, unstable quality to her aura, like a flame struggling against the wind, terrified him.

Long Chen pushed the accelerator harder, following the dual signatures. The golden warmth was steady, strong. The silver light was barely there, wavering.

"Hold on," he muttered, taking another turn as the auras pulled him closer. "Just hold on, Mother. I’m almost there."

The sports car shot forward, guided by the celestial signatures ahead, one bright and alive, one desperately fragile.

Toward his mother, who had sacrificed everything for one last chance to see her lost daughter.

Toward his sister, who was hopefully keeping their mother alive.

Toward a reunion that couldn’t come fast enough. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Long Chen pressed harder on the accelerator, letting Shuyin’s aura lead him home.

Soon, Long Chen was already at Lu Yuze’s mansion entrance gate. He slowed the car, taking in the security, heavy tall walls, imposing iron gates, and he could sense them even if he couldn’t see them clearly: shadow guards positioned strategically around the perimeter.

This Lu Yuze was thorough when it came to security. Good. At least his sister had married someone who took her safety seriously.

He pulled up to the gate and got out of his car, pressing the doorbell. Almost immediately, a small viewing panel slid open, meant for face-to-face identification even though he could see the camera above tracking his every movement.

"Yes, how can I help you?" The gate guard’s voice was polite but firm, his eyes scanning Long Chen’s unfamiliar face with professional wariness.

"I want to see the madam of the house!" Long Chen said urgently. He didn’t know what name Shuyin was using here, so he couldn’t risk saying the wrong one and being told no such person existed.

"We are restricted from receiving anyone into the compound!" The gate guard responded immediately, clearly following strict orders.

Long Chen sighed, frustration mounting. "Do I have to force myself into this home?"
