Chapter 198: Victory?

"Keep on firing!" Reze yelled, blasting off a torrent of blue beams. Directed at the dargon’s head.

The beam cannons proved effective against their hard dragon like scales. Pushing them back from their rampage and potruding a hole emitting from the back of their head.

"At this rate we’ll run out of ammo." She gritted her teeth, watching the number of beasts increasing.

No matter how much dargon they killed, another would rise to take it’s place. Making life miserable for them as they not only had to defend but also tactically kill the dargons before they reached theur location.

"Roar!"

A dargon yelled raising it’s arm to it’s head. Using it as a shield against the never ending blasts.

’Bang! Bang!’

The energy beams recoiled off it’s hard claws, like pebbles at a work. Stopping the assult of beams directed at it’s skull.

"Shit!" Reze cursed out loud seeing the sudden change in the dargon’s strategy.

She’d determined they had somewhat intelligence upon first sight. But judging from their actions, not only were they not coordinated.

Acting like mindless beasts at the sighting of their prey. But they lacked common reasoning to gauge the course of battle.

Grinning the dargon with it’s hand raised to it’s head charged at the group. It’s big legs stomping the ground, making some dent spot as it passed. Moving like a tank with it’s towering body reaching about over 7 feet tall.

Directing her beam cannon to it’s neck, she hope to severe it’s head. But it was pointless as yhe the beams ricochet off the dargon’s neck like paper.

’Bam?’

The creature slammed into the golden defensive barrier. Causing it to shake at the sudden impact. Maintaing it’s bright golden glow.

Not stopping it used it’s free right hand, raining down a series of powerful fists to the barrier. Generating bang sounds like little explosions going off.

’it won’t hold for much longer.’ reze knew in her heart, the barrier wouldn’t hold for much longer. Under the continuous strikes, each getting stronger a tad bit than the last.

"It’s not over yet!" Reze shouted with bloodshot eyes. Twisting a round button on the beam cannon to the max.

’Chime!’

A loud chime sound was heard as the beam cannon emitted a fiercer blue glow. Blue energy forming at it’s tip, getting more vivid. Along with a static hum and zapping sounds.

As what looked like blue lightnings, cracked by the side of the blue charge. Seeing the the smig grin never left the dargon’s face. Completely unfazed by reze threat, putting assurance his scales were enough.

"Don’t. Look. Down. On. Me!" Reze roared, her tone laced with a high pitch.

The blue charge from the cannon beam, radiating with great power. Blue cracks of lightning peeled around the sides furiously like a eaging storm.

Without hesistation, she fired it off at the dargon’s head. A mad grin spread across her face, making the dargon think twice. But it was already too late as the blast collided with it.

Completely destroying it’s arms and obliterating it’s head to ashes. Not even given a chance to scream or feel pain.

’Boom!’

The force produced from the beam cannon not only annihilated the dargon. But also potruded out of the egg shaped oval building in a straight line. Coincidentally hitting the towering space ship by the right thruster.

Causing somewhat damage to it.

"It had an effect?" There was a mix of surprise snd doubt etched to reze face. Seeing her blast had somewhat egfect to the space ship.

She didn’t know what specific materials it was made from. Taking a wild guess probably the scales from their fallen comrades. So it would be just as strong as the dargon’s tough hide.

But that blast wasn’t just normal beam blast. But a high voltage blast, courtesy of her setting the output voltage to the maximum.

Stopping the dargon’s stared in awe at the flash if what looked like blue lightning. Capitalizing on the brief distraction reze slong with the space guards were relentless in shooting at their exposed heads.

Killing a great amount of the creatures, as their bodies plummeted to the floor. With a heavy thud sound.

"We’re doing it, just a bit more!" She encouraged to which the guards replied with a defisnt nod.

Realizing this was a life or death battle where the winner get to keep their life.

’Why’s it just staying there?’ Reze wondered, noticing the spaceship had now stopped just above the building.

Shooting at a dargon attempting the same attempt. It blocked by raising both arms, leaping in the air.

Maintaining a calm look, reze pressed another button on the beam cannon. A blue energy whip cascaded to the floor cracking with the previous blue lightning.

’Zap!’

The dargon’s face went pale seeing the sudden change in weapon. Reze had already swung it at the beast, moving fast like a serpent.

Mid air it couldn’t dodge but only try to block. Which was hopeless as the whip slashed it. Severing it’s upper body from the lower region. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

It crashed into the gokden barrier, it’s intenstines spilling out. Sliding down from the golden barrier, proving it’s effectiveness. But the dargon still wasn’t dead yet.

Pressing the same button the energy whip rolled up bsck into the beam cannon. With a cold gaze the reze shot out a single beam blast. Fixing her unfinished work, and killing the dargon on spot.

Checking her watch, the holographic screen displayed the dark spsceship standing idle. Which made reze frown as she had a sixth sense this was far from over.

’Their numbers are reducing.’

She wasn’t wrong as the outburst of dargons numbers had decreased. Suggesting an abrupt decline in the dargon’s numbers.

"Come on! Just a bit more!" Reze urged with a proud smirk.

"Yes leader!" The guards replied with an exhilerating roar if acknowledgement.

Trusting in reze leadership skills, having led them this far. With zero casualuties so far, desoite being just a scientist.

’Bang! Bang!’

Various gunshot sounds erupted as reze along with the space guards fired at the dargon’s.

Shooting out rays of blue beams, to the creatures head. Killing them from spot as they descended, nit giving them chance to regroup.

Some guards opting to switch theur beam cannons to the energy whip reze produced. Slashing furiously at the few dargons that’d managed to escape the wave of blasts.

"Something doesn’t feel right." Reze muttered seeing the two thrusters turn off. Indicating a power cut.

She prepared for the worst, with this new development. But sfter some few moments, nothing did ever arise. Making her suspicions grow more.

Which was weird considering they were loosing a great amount of soldiers. She didn’t know the specific amount of dargon’s present onboard the ship. And while she’d trued performing a scan, it came up without any credible information.

"Miss reze." Her attention was pulled aside by a guard with his helmet removed. Beads of sweat strolling down his face, in context with how much effort put in.

"We’ve eliminated the last wave of dargons. There are no signs of reinfircements, which means we’ve won right?" He asked hoping for a positive answer.

"I’m afraid we aren’t certain for sure. Though we survived the first wave of attack, the enemy is still upon us and it’s motives unknown." Reze shook her head with a grim tone.

"For all we know this might be a distraction for s much bigger problem at hand. Prepare yourselves, i have s feeling we’re not done yet."

Taking a deep gulp the man equipped his space armour. Heading down to his position with an uncertain feeling.

Waiting, seconds turned to minutes. Reaching the half an hour mark but still no signs of a possible retaliation. The Golden small dome barrier still active, shielding them in place.

Though it had suffered some hits here and there, it stood unwavered.

’Could it be? Is this really over?’ A hint of hope flashed before her eyes.

They had fought resiliently and not only manage to fend the dargons. But also protect the first section of the teleportation bay. Keeping casualuties to a minimum.

So maybe this was the sign of victory they were all hoping for?

"No~" Reze frowned seeing a figure drop from the spaceship.

’Boom!’

It ceashed into the ground with a big explosion. Equivalent to half the power generated from the ship’s reactor blasters. Chucking up debries of stones and dusts of winds.

Dying down a bit, the dust coeared enough to revealing yet another dargon.

"It’s skin is different than the others." Reze noticed this dargon’s skin was a more daeker shade of green than the others.

A proud confident grin etched to it’s lips, his eyes scanning the room. With a cunning perceiving glare making reze grit her teeth.

"It intelligence surpasses the others. There’s no doubt this dargon is of higher rank." She scowled making her comrades faces go pale upon such information.

Stretching it’s left leg back, the dsrgon prepared for a move.

"Quick! Fire!" Reze shouted and they didn’t need to be told twice. Feeling the alarming aura from the new prescence.

’Bang! Bang!’

The energy blasters made their way to the creature’s body. Bouncing off him with ease, the few that’d maged to resch his head jerked off with a mocking intent.

"It deflected the blaster?" Reze uttered in a low tone seeing their attacks ineffective for the first time.

’Bam!’

At the same time the dargon blazed out in a straight line. Catching them off guard by the terrifying speed amassed from such huge beast.

No matter how much they fired the blasts did nothing to this dargon. As it’s body collided with the golden barrier. Causing it to shake greatly, the golden glow flickering with a warning signal.

"Shit." Reze cursed, her pupils shrunoen seeing a deep crack line on the golden barrier.
