You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 101- Does she really not love him anymore?
Adeline accepted Eddie more than a year after her divorce, but now she had only just finalized it. Between her hectic job and Dave occasionally adding to her frustrations, she hardly had time for anything else.
Take last night, for example!
Adeline, of course, understood Laurent’s feelings. Her gentle eyes rested on Laurent as she said,
"Laurent, you have to know that all I want is for you to be happy."
Laurent stepped forward and hugged Adeline.
"I know."
"Don’t worry, I’ll make sure I’m incredibly happy," Laurent said, breaking into laughter.
Adeline was taken aback. It had been so long since she’d seen such a genuine smile from Laurent. She gave her a once-over, a little surprised.
"Since the last time I saw you, you seem so much more radiant, full of life," she remarked.
Laurent was delighted to hear this. She raised a hand to touch her face, her eyes sparkling as she asked Adeline,
"Really?"
Adeline nodded.
"You have to understand, this past year—especially recently—your state was truly—"
Before Adeline could finish, Laurent interrupted her with a knowing smile.
"I know, like a bitter, resentful woman—"
Adeline didn’t say anything but smiled in quiet acknowledgment. Laurent took her arm and led her toward the private room.
"I really like how I feel now—letting go of the past, unafraid of the future, and feeling fulfilled. Even though work tires me out every day, I feel like my life has real value," Laurent said, her tone light but meaningful.
Her words tugged at Adeline’s heart. She gently responded,
"You know, your life was valuable before, too. It’s just that no one recognized it."
From Adeline’s perspective, Laurent had once managed everything at Burg Eltz impeccably, creating a beautiful, orderly life for Dave and their daughter. She had provided her husband and child with a stable, warm home—a life of undeniable worth.
But Dave had never acknowledged her contributions to the household, never appreciated what she gave. That, however, didn’t mean her efforts were meaningless.
When the two returned to the private room, Leonardo and Eddie were chatting animatedly.
Adeline sat down next to Eddie, smiling as she asked,
"What’s got you two—a businessman and a movie star—so amused?"
Leonardo cast a pointed glance at Laurent, who had just taken her seat, and said with a faint sigh,
"We were talking about how the Eight-Year War ended in victory, yet I still haven’t succeeded in winning over someone’s heart."
The meaning behind his words couldn’t have been clearer.
Laurent shot Leonardo a warning glare, silently telling him not to speak nonsense.
Their dishes began arriving, and the four of them started eating.
They had barely taken a few bites when Adeline’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen. It was an unfamiliar number—possibly an international one. Frowning slightly in puzzlement, she answered it.
A deep, rich male voice came from the other end.
"Hello, Miss Adeline. This is Dave."
"Lord Washington?"
Adeline was utterly stunned. Instinctively, she raised her eyes to look at Laurent, who was equally startled. Hearing Adeline’s exclamation of "Lord Washington" had caused Laurent to freeze mid-bite, frowning as she stared at her friend in disbelief.
Leonardo’s expression wasn’t much better, while Eddie remained unfazed, calm as ever.
Snapping back to her senses, Adeline asked Dave politely,
"May I ask what this is about?"
She couldn’t help but wonder why Dave would contact her. Before this, she had barely interacted with him. The only reason they’d even crossed paths recently was due to Laurent’s divorce proceedings, which had led to a handful of meetings and calls.
Though she had been close friends with Laurent for years, she’d never had any dealings with Dave. It was clear to her that in Dave’s eyes, Laurent’s friends were insignificant—people he neither needed nor cared to connect with.
Dave’s tone was casual, almost too much so.
"Nothing in particular, just thought we could have a little chat."
Adeline was left speechless.
What on earth could they possibly have to chat about?
Even when he and Laurent were still married, there hadn’t been anything to discuss between them. Now that they were divorced, the idea seemed even more absurd.
On the other end of the line, Dave maintained his grip on the conversation, unfazed.
"Miss Adeline, have you eaten yet?" he asked, his voice smooth and unhurried.
Adeline was thoroughly baffled by Dave’s sudden call. She answered truthfully,
"No, I’m eating right now."
He responded with casual ease,
"With friends?"
"Yes..." Adeline replied curtly, offering only a single word without elaborating further.
She had a sinking feeling that if the conversation continued, it would inevitably turn toward Laurent. Dave’s ability to steer the discussion subtly in the direction he wanted was unsettling.
Quickly, she said, 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"If there’s nothing urgent, I should go now. My friends are waiting for me to finish dinner."
Dave chuckled softly on the other end.
"Actually, it’s nothing important. I just wanted to trouble you with a small favor. Next time you see Laurent, please pass along my regards."
Adeline froze. Laurent was sitting right in front of her.
She had no idea what to do once she hung up. Should she relay Dave’s message to Laurent or not?
If she told Laurent, there was Leonardo to consider.
If she didn’t, everyone was bound to ask about the phone call. What could she say? That Dave called just to ask if she’d eaten?
And indeed, whether Adeline chose to pass on the message or not, the mere fact that Dave’s call had intruded on their dinner was already enough to sour Laurent’s mood.
In the end, Adeline merely chuckled awkwardly, offering a vague response before saying goodbye and hanging up.
As she had predicted, Laurent was thoroughly upset by the call.
Dave was something else. Whether he had somehow figured out where they were or had simply called Adeline by chance, the result was the same—he had a talent for getting under people’s skin.
Laurent lost her appetite entirely. Setting her utensils aside, she turned to Adeline and asked directly,
"What did he call you for?"
Laurent hadn’t initially wanted to ask about the phone call, but the thought that Dave might have been causing trouble for Adeline nagged at her.
Adeline shrugged helplessly.
"He asked me to pass along his regards to you."
She decided to be honest. She knew Laurent wouldn’t believe her if she claimed Dave hadn’t said anything.
Laurent was furious.
"I’ve long thought he was unhinged. Now it seems his condition has worsened."
Leonardo’s gaze lingered on Laurent’s face. Her expression was filled with disgust as she spoke of Dave.
He couldn’t help but recall how, in the past, Laurent’s eyes would light up whenever she mentioned Dave, her tone brimming with admiration and love.
She used to gush over how charming and remarkable Dave was, her excitement impossible to hide.
Of course, Leonardo hadn’t heard this directly from Laurent—those accounts had come from Frank, who had learned them from Vivian, and then passed them on to him.
But now... was it true? Had she really fallen out of love with him?
