You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 112- unexpected guest
So she always gave people the impression of being cold and hard to approach. In fact, once you got to know her, you would realize she’s a kind-hearted girl, perhaps just not good at expressing herself, which led to that misconception.
After her, Marylin also stepped forward to greet zoey. Zoey looked at the two of them, then her gaze settled on Laurent.
"It’s so good, we’re all together again."
"Isn’t it? Someone finally loves us a little."
Marylin sat seductively on the sofa in the room, still teasing Laurent.
Laurent pretended to be angry, "If you keep saying this, I’ll have to go to Manchester with you, give you all my love, so you won’t complain that I don’t give you enough."
Zoey chuckled softly from the side.
She really enjoyed spending time with them, it was simple and relaxed, which made her the happiest.
After graduating and fighting her way through the workplace for so many years, it was hard to find people who would treat her sincerely. People’s interactions were often mixed with too many elements of self-interest. Looking back, the friendships from university were the purest.
And because they were the purest, they were also the most intense, which is why even after all these years, they still cared for and thought of each other.
Laurent and Marylin lightened the atmosphere, and zoey relaxed as well. She then went to check on Vivian’s son.
Laurent taught her how to hold a baby and how to help the little one burp, and zoey was having a great time learning.
Marylin, sitting nearby, changed her posture, tossed a seductive glance at zoey, and then asked her,
"Hey zoey, I haven’t heard about you having a boyfriend in years. Don’t tell me you’re going to be like me, a ’leftover warrior.’"
Zoey, holding Vivian’s son, smiled and countered,
"Then why haven’t you found one?"
Marylin replied,
"I haven’t found anyone I like."
Zoey lowered her gaze to the little one in her arms and said,
"If the person you’re going to spend your life with isn’t someone you love, then it’s better not to find anyone at all."
Marylin’s view on love was exactly the same as zoey’s. As soon as she heard zoey say that, she immediately cheered up and said,
"zoey, how about we make a pact? If we’re both not married by 35, we’ll get together?"
Zoey gently placed the little one back into the stroller, looked at Marylin, and smiled,
"Alright."
"You two are being too pessimistic."
Laurent quickly interrupted their conversation, which was filled with intense energy,
"You’re both so excellent, how could you possibly still be unmarried at 35?"
Marylin shook her head at Laurent,
"Ah, Laurent, you don’t understand. In today’s society, women are too excellent, and no man dares to want them, fearing they won’t be able to handle them, so they end up unmarried."
Zoey silently agreed with Marylin’s words, and Laurent thought about it and realized there was some truth to it.
Being too exceptional does indeed make many men hesitant, but being too plain and ordinary makes it easy to be overlooked.
She belonged to the latter category.
Vivian had been busy for a while and finally returned to the room to join them, while also feeding her child.
Just as she finished feeding the baby and was tidying up, someone knocked on the door. After Vivian called for them to come in, the door opened, and Leonardo, dressed in a suit, walked in.
He had attended an event in another city in the afternoon and rushed back after it finished. Since Frank was his best friend, he couldn’t miss the baby’s full moon celebration.
Being a celebrity made him already shine, but after dressing up for the event, he appeared even more handsome and striking.
The arrival of Leonardo surprised the three women in the room, and when they saw him casually taking off his suit jacket, they finally understood that the private room wasn’t just for them but also included Leonardo.
Vivian chuckled and explained to them,
"Leonardo is Frank’s ’bestie,’ so of course, he should be here."
As she said this, her gaze shifted to Laurent, her intentions crystal clear—she was blatantly trying to matchmake Leonardo and Laurent.
Laurent was speechless and shot Vivian a hard glare. Vivian immediately averted her eyes, feeling guilty.
Well, she had good intentions! She was a staunch supporter of Leonardo, and how could she miss this chance to play matchmaker?
Leonardo casually greeted everyone. Since they had all been good friends in college, there was no need for much formality.
The table in the private room was round, and the three women had already taken seats next to each other. After hanging up his jacket, Leonardo naturally sat next to Laurent. At once, Vivian and Marylin exchanged suggestive glances. Laurent felt so awkward that she wanted to get up and switch places with Marylin.
However, thinking about how everyone in the room already knew Leonardo’s feelings for her, she realized there was no point in feeling embarrassed.
When they used to hang out together, this was the usual arrangement—Leonardo always sat next to her.
But now, everything had changed. How could it possibly be the same as it was back then, with no other distractions?
After Leonardo left her house that day, they hadn’t seen each other again.
Leonardo had gone straight to shoot that so-called commercial endorsement. He only called her on her birthday, and of course, she wouldn’t主动 reach out to him.
Now, for both Dave and Leonardo, Laurent had the same mindset: if they could avoid seeing them, they would; if they could avoid provoking them, they would.
After Leonardo sat down, he looked across at zoey and casually asked,
"Didn’t you say you’d take my car back? Why did you come on your own? I tried calling you, but you didn’t answer. I had to call Frank to find out you had already arrived."
Zoey, feeling a little apologetic, turned around and took her phone out of her bag. She checked it and quickly explained,
"Sorry, I had my phone in my bag. I was chatting with them and didn’t hear it ring."
"I wanted to get here early to see them, so I just took a cab."
After finishing her explanation, Zoey gave a faint smile. Leonardo glanced at her but didn’t say anything. He turned his attention to Laurent, but before he could say anything, a knock sounded at the door.
Everyone thought it was Frank returning after greeting the guests, but when the door opened, Dave and his daughter, Emma Washington, stood at the threshold.
Dave was dressed in a formal black suit, exuding a calm demeanor with sharp eyes.
His daughter, Emma Washington, wore a red little skirt, bright and lively.
Now, the whole room was stunned.
Dave ignored their surprise and led his daughter straight into the room. His gaze bypassed the others and landed squarely on Laurent.
"My daughter wanted to come see you, and also check on little brother," he said.
With that one sentence, he smoothly shifted all responsibility onto his daughter and, by the way, mentioned the host’s child, making it impossible for the hostess to say anything in protest.
The little girl wanted to come see her baby brother—how could the hostess say no? Especially since she adored the little girl so much.
