You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 119- the best memories of youth
Clark’s tears fell in big drops, and in no time, the card was soaked through.
Clark wiped his tears, raised his hand, and tossed the card into the trash bin. Then, still crying, he started laughing.
"I knew you would fall in love with her, after all, she gave you a child."
"This has nothing to do with her having a child with me!"
Dave denied Clark’s words.
He knew in his heart that his decision to try to win Laurent back had nothing to do with their daughter. It was purely because he couldn’t let her go.
Sometimes, he wished that she hadn’t had the child. At least that way, he wouldn’t feel so indebted to her.
Because when she gave birth, he wasn’t there to accompany her, and due to his own emotional baggage, he missed out on witnessing their daughter’s growth for all these years—something he could never make up for.
If he could, he truly wished time could rewind, back to when they first got married, so he could cherish her properly.
He thought Clark would break down or even have a relapse because of how thoroughly he was severing ties with her. To his surprise, after initially crying, she didn’t react excessively.
Once her emotions had stabilized, she wiped her tears and looked at him with a smile.
"I know your decision now. Don’t worry, I can handle it. Is there anything I can’t bear anymore?"
Her tone was filled with self-mockery.
"I wish you could get her back soon, and the three of you can be a family again."
Then she pointed at the card in the trash bin.
"You don’t need that card anymore. You’ve already done enough for me."
He glanced at Clark but didn’t say anything more. He turned and left.
Although Clark said she didn’t need the card, Dave still instructed his secretary to transfer some money to her account, just to make a clean break.
For him, for his father, for their Burg Eltz.
Laurent, after leaving the restaurant and meeting up with Marylin, Zoey, and her daughter, returned to her room to pack. They planned to visit the school today, as they hadn’t had a chance to return after graduation.
Marylin and Zoey didn’t ask about her conversation with Dave in the restaurant. They could tell by her expression that it hadn’t gone well, and since Dave didn’t follow her, it was clear they parted on bad terms.
Vivian drove them, and with Laurent and her daughter in tow, they headed straight to the school.
The little girl was very excited to visit her mother’s alma mater and chattered non-stop along the way.
Walking through the campus, watching the students rushing by with their books, Vivian couldn’t help but sigh.
"Ah, looking at them makes me want to go back to school too. Maybe I’ll take the entrance exam for a master’s degree sometime."
"Go ahead, go ahead," Marylin sincerely suggested, "I guarantee your thesis will drive you crazy, haha."
Among the four of them, only Marylin had pursued a graduate degree, so she was the only one who knew what graduate school life was really like. She had the most say in this matter.
When they graduated with their bachelor’s degree, the thought of writing a thesis already drove them all mad. Thinking about graduate school, Vivian decisively gave up.
"I’ll just stay home and take care of the kids."
Marylin smacked Vivian lightly in mock disdain.
"I was just kidding! Actually, it’s pretty simple. If you put your mind to it, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish."
After saying this, Marylin and Zoey both glanced at Laurent.
Laurent knew what they meant. "If you put your mind to it, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish." They were talking about how she had loved Dave for so many years, truly and wholeheartedly, and finally made him fall in love with her.
But Laurent couldn’t help feeling that this return of love was perhaps a little too late. And it happened only after they had already divorced.
As they walked and talked, they soon reached the basketball court.
Vivian scanned the court and then raised her hand to wave at one of the groups.
"Honey, we’re over here!"
Laurent and the others followed Vivian’s gaze and saw Frank, dressed in sports gear, playing basketball. Leonardo was there too, but he wore a black cap, looking much more low-key, and not many people recognized him.
Laurent couldn’t help but admire Vivian for not missing any opportunity to pair her up with Leonardo. Even today, while they were just visiting the school, Vivian managed to bring Leonardo along to play basketball.
Thanks to Vivian’s invitation, the group soon found themselves under the basketball hoop, watching the game.
They had done this many times before when they were in school, of course, always accompanying Vivian to watch Frank play basketball.
The little girl stood by the side, watching for a while, clearly admiring the players. She thought their basketball moves were very cool.
She tugged at Laurent’s hand and looked up with a curious face, asking, "Mom, does Dad know how to play basketball?"
Laurent didn’t want to talk about Dave at that moment, so she simply replied to her daughter, "I don’t know."
She truly wasn’t sure if he could play basketball. She had never seen him play. As far as she remembered, he only played golf, often being invited by clients to play golf on weekends.
After watching for a bit, Zoey spoke up.
"Are you thirsty? I’ll go buy some water."
Marylin immediately agreed.
"Now that you mention it, I am thirsty. Let’s go buy some."
The two of them walked hand-in-hand toward the small shop by the playground to buy water. Meanwhile, Vivian and Laurent remained, and Vivian couldn’t help but sigh.
"Ah, it’s so nice to have Zoey around. When we watch Frank play basketball, I don’t even have to buy water."
When they were in school and came to watch them play basketball, Zoey was always the most considerate, the one who would buy water and drinks. Vivian, supposedly Frank’s girlfriend, would always take whatever Zoey had bought and give it to Frank.
At that time, they used to joke about this habit of Vivian’s, and Vivian would always laugh it off, saying she was just so mesmerized by Frank’s basketball moves that she forgot to buy drinks.
One time, Zoey went to buy water again, and when she returned, Vivian suddenly asked her, "Zoey, are you secretly in love with Frank? What should we do if that’s the case? You’re such a genius, I’d never be able to beat you."
Zoey rolled her eyes at her in response, and the topic was quickly dropped.
When Zoey and Marylin returned with the drinks, Leonardo and the others had just finished a game. They came over to grab some water. After thanking Zoey and Marylin, Leonardo walked over to Laurent, holding his drink, and asked her,
"After strolling around the school, do you miss your school life?"
Laurent smiled faintly.
"Whether I miss it or not, it doesn’t matter. I can’t go back to the past."
Leonardo took a sip of water and said, somewhat nostalgically, "I often miss this place. Sometimes I even dream about it. Do you know why?"
Laurent knew what he was about to say, so she deliberately changed the topic.
"Loving to reminisce like that just shows you’re getting old."
Leonardo ignored her attempt to steer the conversation elsewhere and kept his gaze fixed on her as he continued,
"Because this place holds the best memories of my youth, and the person I love the most."
