You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 133-You’re insane!
She had forgotten that both Dave and Morrison were businessmen, and very successful ones at that. At their level, how many would not be playing mind games?
Dave told Laurent the time for the client visit, and Morrison took the opportunity to sit next to Dave, called over a waiter to order, and then smiled at Laurent,
"Laurent, stay and have dinner with us. Today’s meal is on me, just as a thank-you for agreeing to help me with this favor."
Dave, sitting beside them, shot him a disdainful glance. What did he mean by "helping him"?
Morrison ignored Dave’s objection and continued talking to Laurent,
"Once the job is done, you’ll be well rewarded."
Laurent hadn’t planned on staying for dinner, but with Morrison being so enthusiastic, she felt she had no choice but to stay and eat with them. Plus, it was a good opportunity to learn more about their client.
Of course, it was Morrison who enthusiastically introduced their client to her. Dave remained silent throughout the conversation. He was never much of a talker, and even when they were together in the past, he would usually say only one sentence for every ten she spoke.
But he didn’t just sit there quietly. When he wasn’t eating, he was either watching her eat or observing her chat with Morrison. Laurent felt like she was going to develop indigestion from his constant gaze, but she didn’t know how to tell him to stop staring. All she could do was glare at him with her eyes.
Morrison, unable to bear it any longer, protested,
"Can you two stop staring at each other like that? Can’t you consider how I, the single guy, feel?"
Laurent, annoyed, snapped,
"I’m not flirting with him!"
Morrison shrugged his shoulders,
"You look at him, he looks at you, how is that not flirting?"
Laurent retorted, annoyed,
"Is that really how you understand flirting? I think your Chinese teacher was a math teacher!"
She wasn’t flirting with Dave, she was glaring at him in anger!
Meanwhile, she was bickering with Morrison, and the real culprit just sat there, quietly smiling at her with pursed lips.
Laurent couldn’t stand his expression, because both his smile and his gaze were filled with affection.
So, she shot back at him without hesitation,
"What are you laughing at? What’s so funny?"
This was the first time the two of them had spoken during the meal. Before Dave could say anything, Morrison cut him off,
"Don’t mind him, he’s just got a crush."
Laurent, "..."
Was Morrison trying to help her, or was he helping Dave?
Dave finally spoke up,
"If I don’t laugh, I’m worried you’ll think I’m being unfriendly with my serious face, so I didn’t dare not smile."
Laurent, "..."
Did he really need to make himself sound so pitiful? It was as if he was afraid of her.
He had never taken her seriously before—when had he ever been afraid of her?
Dave looked at her and said,
"See? You’re not talking again, so I didn’t dare to speak."
Laurent replied in annoyance,
"Then just say something, say whatever you want!"
Dave gave her a deep look,
"You’re the one who told me to speak."
Laurent responded carelessly,
"Go ahead, say it."
After thinking for a moment, Dave said,
"A lion doesn’t turn around at the barking of a dog."
Laurent glanced over at Morrison, only to see him looking completely confused. Laurent felt like her own expression wasn’t much better than Morrison’s. She asked him in confusion,
"What does that mean?"
To her surprise, Dave quietly replied,
"Figure it out yourself."
"You’re insane!"
This was the phrase Laurent and Morrison both simultaneously shouted at Dave.
Morrison was about to lose it,
"Are you showing off how cultured you are or something?"
Then he turned to Laurent,
"What did he just say? Something about a lion?"
Laurent glanced at Dave and answered Morrison,
"If I didn’t hear wrong, he said, ’A lion doesn’t turn around at the barking of a dog.’"
Morrison nodded in realization,
"Oh, so that’s what it was."
Then he turned back to Dave,
"Laurent told you to talk, and instead of telling us how much you love her, you suddenly throw out that sentence. Can we even have a normal conversation?"
Laurent, "..."
What did he mean by telling him to say how much he loved her?
Dave looked at Laurent, his gaze deep,
"She knows what it means."
When he said that, Laurent understood exactly what he meant.
She had heard that phrase before: "A lion doesn’t turn around at the barking of a dog."
It meant that a lion wouldn’t bother to respond to the barking of a stray dog. The extended meaning was that truly strong individuals don’t need to pay attention to the malicious words or criticism of petty people.
He was talking about the rumors that had hurt her recently, wasn’t he? Was he using that phrase to tell her not to worry about it and to move on?
It seemed like he knew. Had he investigated it?
Then he should also know that this matter had something to do with Clark, right?
Morrison, completely unaware of what was going on, was left confused by their conversation,
"What are you two talking about?"
Laurent turned her gaze away and changed the subject, addressing Morrison,
"I’m done eating. Thank you for the generous meal."
Dave glanced at her but didn’t say anything further.
Morrison, feeling a little frustrated and having had a bit to drink, looked at Laurent and said,
"Laurent, why don’t I adopt you as my god-sister, huh—"
Before he could finish, Dave interrupted sharply,
"Get lost!" 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
Dave wasn’t having it. If Morrison recognized Laurent as his little sister, then if he and Laurent got back together, wouldn’t he have to call Morrison "bro"?
Morrison must be deliberately trying to get under his skin.
Morrison protested,
"What are you doing? I was just asking Laurent’s opinion."
Dave snorted,
"Before you call her your little sister, maybe you should ask yourself how many ’little sisters’ you actually have, and think about what kind of ’little sisters’ they are."
Having been friends for years, Dave knew Morrison all too well. Outside, he had plenty of ’little sisters,’ all of them his close female friends.
Morrison looked innocent,
"Hey, this time I really just wanted to take her as my little sister—"
"No way."
Dave wasn’t backing down.
Laurent, not intending to get involved with the Morrison family, changed the subject,
"I’m done eating, let’s go. I’ve got things to do at home."
Morrison had no choice but to give in. He really did like Laurent’s personality. It wasn’t the kind of liking a man has for a woman, but more out of a bit of sympathy and affection for her.
Of course, he also enjoyed teasing Dave a bit.
