You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 136- mockery
If something were to happen, no amount of talking would change it afterward. He would never allow such a dangerous possibility to exist in her life—not even if the chances were just 0.01%.
Laurent was so frustrated she didn’t even know what to say. She turned around and snapped at him,
"So by that logic, back when we were still married, if a female friend of mine had stayed over at our house, does that mean you would’ve had improper thoughts about her too?"
Wasn’t it just a matter of putting yourself in someone else’s shoes? If he could suspect Eddie like this, didn’t that mean he was admitting to having those kinds of thoughts himself?
Dave was momentarily stunned by her retort, but then he became furious.
"I only trust myself not to do something disgusting like that. But I don’t trust other men!"
Laurent let out a cold laugh.
"Well, at least Eddie has never been caught getting all cozy with his ex-wife. So tell me, what right do you have to question him?"
Dave was fuming, nearly choking on his own anger—especially since she had thrown the whole Clark incident back in his face. And worst of all, he had no way to refute it.
The frustration burning in Dave’s chest made it impossible for him to focus on driving properly. So, he steered the car into the emergency lane on the highway and brought it to a stop. He took several deep breaths, forcing himself to calm down.
Turning to look at Laurent in the passenger seat, he asked,
"Is it really impossible for us to have a proper conversation?"
Laurent, still annoyed, shot back,
"You were the one who started talking irrationally first. What you said was incredibly disrespectful to both Adeline and Eddie!"
Adeline was one of her closest friends. By doubting Eddie like that, wasn’t he also questioning Adeline’s judgment? How could she not be angry?
Men and women often approached things from fundamentally different perspectives. Dave was solely focused on Laurent’s safety, while Laurent was more concerned about her friends not being disrespected. That was what led to this argument.
Dave let out a sigh, clearly exasperated.
"Laurent, I was only thinking about your safety."
He truly hadn’t meant to disrespect anyone. The only thing on his mind was her—making sure she wasn’t placed in any situation that carried even the slightest hint of danger.
His gaze was sincere, his deep black eyes like the finest velvet—soft yet overwhelming, threatening to pull her in completely. Laurent quickly looked away, refusing to meet his eyes, and fell silent.
Dave’s tone softened as well.
"How about this? No matter how late you stay up talking with Adeline, I’ll come pick you up."
"You—!"
Laurent turned back to glare at him, infuriated by his stubbornness and overbearing nature.
Still fuming, Laurent turned away and muttered,
"Whatever. Do whatever you want."
She refused to believe that if she and Adeline ended up chatting until two in the morning, he would still be able to come pick her up at a moment’s notice.
The rest of the drive was silent.
When they finally arrived at Burg Eltz, Laurent asked Dave to drop her off directly at Adeline’s place.
As she was about to step out of the car, Dave reminded her once again,
"Call me when you’re done talking. I’ll come pick you up."
Laurent ignored him.
His gaze darkened as he looked at her, and he repeated firmly,
"Listen to me—Adeline and Eddie are in the middle of their honeymoon phase. It’s inconvenient for you to stay there."
Laurent got out of the car without a word and walked off.
What could possibly be inconvenient?
Dave sat in his car, watching her figure disappear into the building. Only then did he finally drive away.
Dave called Morrison. As soon as Morrison picked up, he sounded annoyed.
"I’m in a terrible mood. If it’s not something important, don’t bother me."
"What’s wrong?"
Dave asked, though he had a pretty good guess about what was bothering him.
A few days ago, his mother, Tiffany, had mentioned that Linda had been aggressively setting up blind dates for Morrison. The reason? One of their old socialite friends had recently leveled up to "Lady Tiffany," and Linda wasn’t about to be left behind.
Morrison groaned in frustration.
"Don’t even bring it up. The Empress Dowager at home has arranged a blind date for me, and I’m currently sitting in a restaurant waiting for it to start."
Then, as if suddenly realizing something, he added,
"Wait a second—you picked up Laurent today, didn’t you? Shouldn’t you be off whispering sweet nothings and basking in romance right now? How do you even have time to call me?"
"She went to have dinner at her friend’s place."
Dave would’ve loved nothing more than to spend the evening being affectionate with Laurent. Unfortunately, the reality was that he had been abandoned, left starving, and was now looking for someone to grab dinner with.
Morrison immediately perked up upon realizing Dave was all alone.
"Come rescue me right now, and dinner’s on me!"
Dave had initially planned to hang up after hearing that Morrison was on a blind date, thinking that it was about time Morrison found a woman and settled down. But then Morrison asked him to "save" him.
"How do I save you? I’m not a woman."
If he were a woman, he could’ve pretended to be Morrison’s girlfriend or something, to make the other party back off.
But Morrison wasn’t serious at all.
"Just come over, kiss me, and I guarantee I’ll be saved. It’ll be a one-time fix, and my mom will never dare to set me up on another blind date again."
"Get lost!"
Just thinking about that scenario made Dave feel like he might vomit.
Suddenly, Morrison’s tone changed as he hurriedly spoke.
"Shit, it’s too late! My mom’s back, and she brought the blind date woman with her!" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"Oh..."
Morrison quickly explained his plan.
"I’ll put you on speakerphone, and you just tell my mom that you’re here on business."
Before Morrison could finish, Dave heard Linda’s voice coming from the other side.
"Morrison—"
Morrison quickly hit the speakerphone button, walked over to his mother, and said,
"Sorry, Mom, Dave needs me for something..."
