You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 17- Blocked
Late at night, the streets were desolate, a time that should have been filled with sweet dreams. Yet, Laurent wandered on the road, wide awake.
What kind of feeling is this?
However, she didn’t feel sad or lonely. Instead, she felt like she had been reborn.
Because in her eyes, the endless darkness in her life was about to be lifted, and dawn was just around the corner.
A prestigious neighborhood.
The name of the community alone suggested it was a high-end school district property, and indeed it was. Surrounding this neighborhood were famous schools, from elementary to university, with the only exception being the high school, which was located in another district two streets away.
A school district property, meant for children, but in reality, Dave didn’t love her or their child. Dave owned many properties, and Laurent didn’t understand why he had chosen this apartment as their marital home.
The furnishings in the apartment were just as they had been. She had only been gone for a day and night, so nothing had changed much. She quickly packed her things, leaving behind those expensive, delicate dresses. She only took a few pairs of jeans and comfortable clothes.
She didn’t take all of her daughter’s things, since he was still her father. Even though the custody would be hers, he still had the right to visit, and her daughter would have the opportunity to return and live with him. It wasn’t too late to organize her daughter’s things later.
After packing, she placed her car keys, the apartment keys, and all of his bank cards on the shoe cabinet in the entryway. Then, holding two suitcases, she left without looking back, without any attachment.
Nothing is more sorrowful than a dead heart.
When a person’s heart has completely died, there’s no hope of expecting any other feelings from them.
Back at Adeline’s place, Laurent stayed up all night, continuing to take care of her daughter. With her condition, the little girl couldn’t go to kindergarten the next day, so Laurent called in sick for her.
The next morning, after Adeline woke up, she urged Laurent to sleep for a while, offering to take care of the little one.
Just as Laurent was about to drift off to sleep, her phone rang. She saw it was her divorce lawyer calling and immediately sat up to answer.
Her lawyer, on the other end, was apologetically speaking to her...
"Mrs. Washington, I’m sorry, but I’ve been really busy lately, and I’ll need to go on a business trip for a while. I’m afraid I won’t be able to take on the divorce case between you and Mr. Washington. You should find another lawyer."
When Laurent heard him refer to her as Mrs. Washington, she couldn’t help but feel a sting. He clearly knew she was going to divorce Dave, so why was he still calling her Mrs. Washington?
Before this, when she had contacted him, he had always called her Miss Rong.
"Lawyer Marc—"
After all, switching lawyers at this point would be quite a hassle.
However, before she could even finish speaking, the other side hurriedly apologized and hung up, leaving Laurent at a loss for words and unable to fall asleep.
This Lawyer Marc was the one Laurent had helped find for Adeline’s divorce. Laurent had thought that after Adeline’s case, they had built a bit of rapport with him.
And when Laurent had first approached him for her own case, he had agreed right away to take it on. So why had he suddenly become so cold?
After hearing that Marc had turned down Laurent’s case, Adeline called him, but his phone was off.
Adeline was also a bit helpless.
"It looks like Lawyer Marc isn’t an option," she said.
The way Marc had so quickly changed his attitude and was now avoiding them like the plague made Laurent almost certain that Dave had intervened behind the scenes.
But she couldn’t help but think that he couldn’t be this despicable. After all, dragging out the divorce wouldn’t benefit him in any way, right?
So, Laurent tried to convince herself that Marc was genuinely too busy to take on her case.
"Well, never mind, I’ll just find another lawyer."
At this point, there was no need to sleep anymore. Laurent got up and continued searching for another lawyer online, taking advantage of the time before her daughter woke up.
Meanwhile, Dave returned home to the "Shuxiang Mendi" residence in the morning. The house felt cold and empty.
As he was changing his shoes in the entryway, his eyes immediately fell on the keys and a few bank cards placed there. His previously tired black eyes darkened at once.
Holding the cards, he walked into the dressing room, only to see that her clothes had been disturbed. She was someone who always organized her clothes meticulously, so he could tell at a glance that something was off.
She had only taken a few pieces of clothing—those high-end, foreign brands he had bought for her during his business trips abroad. Not one of them had been taken, and they were neatly hung in the closet, giving off a lonely, desolate feeling.
Her daughter’s clothes had also been taken. Clutching the bank cards and keys that had been decisively left behind, Dave felt a headache coming on from his anger.
Just then, he received a call from Marc, the lawyer Laurent had originally hired. Marc respectfully reported over the phone:
"Mr. Washington, I’ve just turned down the case for Mrs. Washington, as you instructed..."
Dave impatiently interrupted him.
"The payment we agreed on will be processed soon."
Indeed, he had paid a large sum to ensure that Marc wouldn’t take on her case.
And it wasn’t just Marc. From now on, whenever she hired a lawyer, he would do the same.
She was so determined to get a divorce? Well, he was curious to see how she would handle the divorce case when she couldn’t even hire a single lawyer.
After ending the call with Marc, Dave dialed Laurent’s number again. He was eager to warn her, but all he got was that her phone couldn’t be reached.
In the end, he called his sister Lilian.
"Why can’t I get through to Laurent’s phone?"
It was early in the morning, and Lilian was still asleep. His call woke her up, and she was annoyed, but being a good-natured person, she quickly hung up and dialed Laurent’s number herself.
She then dutifully reported back to her brother:
"I got through to Laurent’s phone. I just called, it went through, and I even had a little chat with her."
Before Dave could say anything, he heard Lilian’s surprised voice on the other end:
"Oh no, Dave, your number probably got blocked by Laurent!"
"Blocked?"
Dave’s tone couldn’t have been colder. Thanks to that woman, it was the first time he’d ever heard that word.
After Lilian enthusiastically explained what "blocked" meant, Dave’s anger flared up.
