You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 18- just end it
Damn it, she actually chose to reject his calls!
And she only rejected his. Everyone else could reach her, but not him.
Ha, she really has guts. Time and time again, she’s making him, the prestigious CEO of Washington Enterprises, lose face.
After taking a shower and changing into a new set of clothes, Dave drove straight to Lilian’s place.
He wanted to check on his mother and also hoped to get in touch with Laurent through Lilian. He needed to make it clear to her—she should not even think about gaining custody of their daughter!
At Lilian’s place, Tiffany was doing fine, as usual—calm and gentle, showing no signs of sadness.
After finishing breakfast, which his mother had made for him, Dave solemnly asked her:
"Are you really set on the divorce?"
He had planned to visit his mother last night, but Clark had an issue, and he ended up going to the hospital with her.
Clark’s condition wasn’t good. She had always been frail, and after spending so many years abroad...
When he said her condition wasn’t good, he wasn’t just talking about her physical state—her mental health had also started to deteriorate.
Tiffany calmly replied:
"If it’s convenient for you to help me find a lawyer, then please do. If not, I’ll look for one myself."
Dave had always been close to his mother, and their bond was even stronger after the scandal involving his illegitimate child and the issues with his father.
So, if his mother insisted on divorcing his father, he would stand by her.
However, as he looked at his mother’s resolute attitude, he couldn’t help but think of Laurent—of her stubbornness and determination. Strangely, he felt a bit of sympathy for his father.
So, he said a few words to try and ease the tension:
"Don’t blame him for the situation with Laurent. Didn’t he also say... that after living with you for all these years, he’s fallen in love with you?"
"And what about you?"
After he finished speaking, Tiffany raised her eyes to look at him, her words sharp as she countered:
"Five years of living together, with a daughter between you two—haven’t you fallen in love with Laurent?"
Suddenly being asked this question by his mother, Dave’s expression froze for a brief moment, before he turned his gaze away, avoiding his mother’s inquiry.
"Mom, we’re talking about you and Dad now..."
Does love really matter that much?
Whether he loved her or not, this marriage had already begun, and he hadn’t thought about ending it.
Tiffany quietly stared at her son for a long while, then sighed.
"Dave, I don’t know what caused Laurent to bring up the divorce, but let me say one thing: If you don’t love Laurent, then just end it."
Dave hadn’t expected his mother to advise him to divorce, but after a moment of reflection, he realized that his mother, too, had been a victim of a loveless marriage. Her perspective was understandable.
"Let her go while she’s still young, so she can pursue her own happiness. Don’t keep delaying her, and don’t keep delaying yourself either."
Tiffany smiled slightly as she spoke:
"I heard that Clark is back. Mom won’t have any objections because she’s been with that woman’s son. As long as you like her, I’ll accept it."
Her words were sincere, but Dave inexplicably found the phrase "been with that woman’s son" rather jarring. Furthermore, he felt that the line "let her go and pursue her own happiness" was even more biting.
Not wanting to continue the conversation, Dave stood up and went to Lilian’s room. After being disturbed by his phone call earlier, Lilian had fallen back asleep.
Lilian, 22 years old, was a senior in college. She was ten years younger than Dave, so he had always been protective of her, even though he often looked down on her simple and almost transparent intellect.
Whenever he mocked her intelligence, Lilian would always retort confidently, saying that their parents had made things so complicated for him that they made her simple by comparison.
Entering Lilian’s room, Dave walked over and unceremoniously grabbed her phone from the bedside table. He also picked up her hand, which was exposed, and placed her finger on the sensor to unlock it.
Since Lilian was always on her phone at home, Dave had long since memorized which finger she used to unlock it.
Lilian was awakened by Dave’s actions. Realizing that he was going to take her phone, she tried to grab it, but he had already walked to the bedside and dialed Laurent’s number.
When Laurent saw it was Lilian’s call, she didn’t think much of it and answered, "What’s up?"
Since she had just finished a simple conversation with Lilian, she didn’t bother with formalities and directly asked what was going on.
The response she got was Dave’s displeased questioning.
"Where are you right now?"
Hearing his voice, Laurent instantly understood. He must have been unable to reach her, so he resorted to using Lilian’s phone to track her down.
Yes, she had indeed put his number on her blacklist. She didn’t want any more contact with him, didn’t want to speak with him, and certainly didn’t want to see him.
Laurent instinctively braced herself, adopting a defensive stance, and coldly responded with a question of her own.
"Is there something you need?"
Dave was so infuriated that he gritted his teeth, yet he still persisted in wanting to know where she was. For him, only by knowing her location and having control over her would he feel at ease.
So, he used their daughter as an excuse.
"I need to know your address because I have the right to visit my daughter at any time, not to mention that we’re still married."
"Heh..."
It was better that he didn’t mention their daughter, but as soon as he did, Laurent immediately thought back to the scenes at the hospital last night. She couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic laugh.
"Do you even care about your daughter? I thought your heart was only for your lover."
In the middle of the night, she had to rush her feverish, vomiting daughter around the hospital, while he was tenderly holding another woman, offering affection and comfort. How could that not make one’s heart ache?
On the other end, Dave was enraged by her biting sarcasm.
"Laurent, stop speaking to me in that tone!"
The next thing he heard was the phone abruptly being hung up.
Dave was so angry he almost threw the phone. Lilian, startled, rushed over from behind him and snatched the phone back, holding it protectively.
"Please, bro, if you want to throw something, throw your own phone. I just got this one and haven’t even had time to enjoy it."
In a fit of rage, Dave stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
Downstairs, he ran into his father, Daniel, who had just gotten out of the car. Dave was in a foul mood, so he only greeted his father briefly before getting into his car and driving off.
It was clear that his father wasn’t in any better spirits, looking much more haggard as if he had aged overnight.
