Chapter 176: Chapter 176- life threatening danger

After getting in touch with Cassy, Laurent immediately rushed to the emergency hall. Dave was there, as was Cassy, and Daniel had also arrived.

Laurent didn’t have time to greet them and quickly ran to Cassy.

"Mom, how’s Dad?"

Seeing Laurent’s pale and nervous face, Cassy felt a bit guilty. She helped calm her down while speaking gently.

"It’s fine, it’s fine, don’t panic too much. I was also scared earlier, which affected your emotions. Your dad is okay. He just hit his head on a tree and had a small cut. Now the doctor has taken him for a CT scan to check if there’s any brain injury or something."

Although Cassy said there was nothing major to worry about, for Laurent, her father’s age made her extremely worried about him, especially with the possibility of a concussion or something worse.

While Laurent was talking to her mother, Dave’s gaze turned to the man who had come with Laurent. When Laurent got out of the car, she was so focused on rushing inside that she had forgotten to take her suitcase, so Matthew had carried it in for her.

Matthew, being a few years older than Dave, caught Dave’s attention. Dave noticed the suitcase in Matthew’s hand and, out of politeness, approached him to greet him.

"Matthew, what’s going on here...?"

Matthew smiled, placing Laurent’s suitcase beside him.

"Oh, I was with Laurent and her boss on a business trip from the exhibition. I happened to run into her at the airport, and she had something to handle, so I brought her here."

"Thank you, I really appreciate it," Dave said politely.

Dave politely thanked Matthew, but Matthew didn’t say anything further. Instead, he walked over to Laurent and asked softly,

"Laurent, is something wrong? Do you need any help?"

Laurent looked at Matthew with deep gratitude.

"No, Matthew, I really can’t thank you enough for today..."

"Since we’re business partners, there’s no need for formalities. If everything’s fine, I’ll leave you to it," Matthew said with a smile, seeing so many people around. He then politely excused himself.

Dave, who had been watching Laurent’s pale face, felt a surge of sympathy. Just as he was about to approach her and say something, his phone rang. He answered it and walked outside.

"How’s it going? Did you find anything?"

Laurent heard these few words and immediately felt more certain about her earlier guess. It was obvious Dave suspected someone had done this intentionally and had people investigating it.

After Dave left, Laurent hurriedly asked her mother,

"What about Emma? Is she okay?"

Cassy quickly reassured her,

"Emma’s fine. She might have been a little scared, but Lady Tiffany is staying with her to keep her company. Her father also called a psychologist to help her through it."

When Laurent heard that her daughter had been scared, her heart nearly shattered. The thought of such a little thing almost being abducted by two wicked men was enough to terrify any child.

Since her father hadn’t finished the CT scan yet, Laurent decided to go see her daughter first.

Dave had arranged a VIP hospital room for Alex. At that moment, Emma Washington was in the room, held in Tiffany’s arms. Her little face still had tear stains, and a young female doctor was playfully trying to cheer the little girl up.

The moment Laurent walked in and saw her daughter, tears started flowing uncontrollably. But in order not to cause her daughter any more emotional distress, she quickly turned her head and wiped away the tears.

As soon as the little girl saw her, she burst into loud sobs, struggling to be held.

"Mommy, Mommy—"

Laurent walked over, took her daughter from Tiffany’s arms, and held her tightly, holding her as if her very life depended on it.

Tears continued to pour down her face. She didn’t want to cry, but she simply couldn’t control herself.

At that moment, her heart was in turmoil. Aside from the trembling fear of nearly losing her daughter, all she felt was hatred.

But the person she hated wasn’t Clark or anyone else—it was Dave.

If it weren’t for him being ambiguous with Clark and giving him false hope, how could Clark have become so resentful?

If it weren’t for him continuing to cling to her after their divorce, how could Clark have kept making things difficult for her, again and again?

It was all because of him!

It was his indecisiveness in love that had led to her nearly losing her daughter, nearly losing her father today.

Laurent was now in a nearly frantic state. At that moment, she even thought that if her daughter and father hadn’t been so lucky today—if something had happened to them—she would never forgive Dave for the rest of her life!

"Mommy, Mommy, you’re holding me too tight..."

The little one protested in her arms. Laurent suddenly realized she had lost control of her emotions and was squeezing too hard. She quickly loosened her grip and tried to force a smile as she apologized.

"Sorry, sweetheart. Mommy was just so worried about you."

Then she began checking the little one from head to toe.

"Are you hurt?" 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

The little girl shook her head obediently but then hid her little arm behind her. Laurent immediately sensed something was wrong and quickly reached for the arm. To her shock, she found a large bruise on the fair arm.

Tears fell instantly. Tiffany approached and sadly explained,

"It was from when that thug grabbed her..."

Tiffany didn’t say anything more. As a mother herself, she knew the heartache all too well. She didn’t want to describe the scene. Even though the child was safe now, the image of that moment would always be heart-wrenching for a mother.

The two thugs had ridden past them on a motorcycle. The person in the back suddenly reached out and grabbed the little girl. It was so sudden that none of them were prepared. Who would expect someone to try to kidnap a child in broad daylight? The little girl was instantly grabbed by the man.

Luckily, Laurent’s father reacted quickly and snatched the child back. The struggle in that moment had caused the bruise on the little girl’s arm.

After Laurent’s father grabbed the child, he handed her to Laurent and her mother. They quickly shielded the child and shouted for help, even calling the police. Laurent’s father fought with the two men, trying to stop them. When some bystanders arrived and the kidnappers heard the police had been called, they panicked and tried to escape. The man on the motorcycle crashed into Laurent’s father in an attempt to flee.

Laurent’s father couldn’t dodge in time and was hit, crashing into a nearby tree. He was seriously injured, with blood pouring from his head. The two men managed to escape.

That was the sequence of events.

The only thing to be thankful for was that the child was safe and Laurent’s father wasn’t in any life-threatening danger.

Otherwise... otherwise, she wouldn’t have known how to face Laurent.

Tiffany felt a wave of sadness in her heart as she thought about it.

The door to the hospital room was pushed open, and Dave walked in. He glanced at Laurent, whose face was streaked with tears, and the little girl in her arms. He moved toward them, trying to pull them into an embrace. But Laurent, holding her daughter tightly, suddenly recoiled, avoiding him. Her eyes were filled with disgust and hatred as she looked at him.

"Don’t touch me, and don’t touch my daughter!"

Laurent’s voice was sharp and filled with a tremor, a mix of fear and a hint of despair.
