You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 237- genuinely angry
Dave chuckled softly, gazing at Laurent with affectionate eyes.
"Well, that’s all we needed. You see, you don’t trust me, and I don’t trust you. But deep down, we’re both just afraid that the other might be attracted to someone else."
He was right in his assessment, but Laurent stubbornly mumbled under her breath, "Who cares about you?"
She then put her phone aside, turned around, and lay down.
"I’m going to sleep."
Dave didn’t say anything further, he turned off the lights and lay down behind her, wrapping his arms around her.
Laurent, fearing he might make any improper moves, immediately pulled his hand away.
"We’re going out to have fun tomorrow, stop it."
She didn’t want to spend the next few days sleeping all day in the hotel because of bed-related issues.
Dave’s hand reached out again to pull her into his arms, whispering in her ear, "I’ll let you off tonight, but tomorrow we’ll wake up early to watch the sunrise."
Laurent turned in his arms, now facing him. A faint light remained on by the bedside, and in the darkness, Laurent could make out his handsome features.
"Watch a rainbow and then the sunrise?"
Dave responded with a single word, then said, 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"Isn’t that what travel is all about? Seeing all the beautiful sights, tasting all the delicious food, enjoying everything to the fullest, indulging in the experience."
Laurent chuckled softly.
"Dave, you’re actually quite cute."
In the past, all he gave her was endless indifference. She didn’t know he had this romantic side, the side that wanted to watch rainbows and sunrises, and meticulously planned everything down to the smallest detail. It felt like he had come down from some pedestal, and this version of him was especially endearing.
Dave was silent for a moment before asking her,
"What did I look like to you before?"
"Don’t you know yourself?"
Laurent’s tone was a bit awkward, clearly not wanting to talk about this topic. After all, wasn’t it him who said they should look forward and not dwell on the past?
But Dave insisted, pressing her further,
"I want to hear you say it."
"What I say will all be bad."
Laurent tried to deter him, hoping to end the conversation.
But he drew closer to her from behind, his body pressing against hers.
"Then I still want to hear it. Honest words are hard to hear, aren’t they? If you say it, I can change."
Dave genuinely wanted to hear her talk about his past self, believing that only by knowing all his shortcomings could he improve and do better.
Laurent remained silent for a moment in the darkness before she spoke lightly,
"I don’t even remember what you were like before. Just go to sleep."
Then she closed her eyes and said no more.
As he had said before, the past was gone, and there was no point in bringing it up again.
As long as he could treat her sincerely from now on, that would be enough.
Dave leaned in to kiss her, but he didn’t go further. He only kissed her softly a few times before stopping, then pulled her into his arms, and they both fell asleep together.
It was a peaceful and deep sleep.
The next morning, they got up early. Having rested well, they felt full of energy despite the early hour. Dave drove, and the two of them headed to a small island to watch the sunrise.
They arrived at their destination before six o’clock, but there were already many people gathered there to watch the sunrise.
Some had set up tripods and cameras, focused on waiting for the sunrise.
Others were chatting in small groups, with people from all over the world, speaking in various languages.
There were also a few quiet people like Dave and Laurent, standing off to the side and waiting. However, they were few; most of the people there were couples. There was even an older couple, whose faces showed the peace and ease that came after weathering many years together.
Laurent thought, reaching this point in life was probably what it meant to be truly complete.
About half an hour later, a faint red glow began to spread from the horizon, where the sea met the sky. Everyone knew the sun was about to rise, so all conversation instantly ceased. People held their breath and stood still, waiting for the moment the sun would appear.
When the dazzling red sun rose from the horizon, it was magnificent. Then, it softened into a gentle posture, with its radiant light gradually spreading, until the bright and vibrant light illuminated the entire earth. Surrounding it were layers of clouds, creating a breathtakingly beautiful scene.
Some people in the crowd cheered, and soon, more people joined in the cheers. Everyone was moved by this brief but awe-inspiring sight.
Even Laurent couldn’t help but exclaim,
"It’s really beautiful."
Yesterday evening, they had watched the rainbow after the rain, and this morning, they witnessed the sunrise. The journey had only just begun, but Laurent already felt her heart filled with these two stunning and unforgettable scenes.
Dave gently held her from behind, smiling.
"Doesn’t it feel like this trip was worth it?"
Laurent nodded vigorously, and Dave’s smile widened even more.
Making her happy and content was his main goal in taking her on this trip.
When she was in a good mood, her evaluation of him would naturally be higher, and the chances of her returning to his side would be greater.
But now, after sleeping together, could she really go back and not be with him?
After watching the sunrise on the island, the two drove directly to their new accommodation. Yesterday, they stayed in a hotel, but for the next two days, Dave had booked a private villa. Not only was it very private, but the view was also stunning, with the sea just outside, offering a perfect view of the deep blue ocean.
After checking into the villa and completing the formalities, since it was still early, the two went for breakfast before starting their day’s activities.
Today, Dave’s itinerary was all water activities: snorkeling, banana boat rides, and so on. In short, they would spend the day out on the ocean.
When Laurent went back to pack for the trip, she brought along a large bottle of sunscreen. Just before leaving, Laurent asked Dave to put some on, but he refused, frowning in protest.
"I’m a grown man, why would I put that stuff on? And it’s so oily, it feels awful. I’m not putting it on."
Laurent tried to convince him,
"But we’ll be on the sea all day, and the sun is so harsh. If you don’t put on sunscreen, you’ll get burned."
Dave still refused.
"I’m not putting it on. If I get sunburned, so be it. A man getting a bit darker doesn’t matter."
Laurent was frustrated by his stubbornness. She was thinking of him, but it wasn’t about whether he got darker or not—it was about the risk of getting burned.
But he was adamant about not applying it. He turned and left the room first, without another word. Laurent was so angry that she didn’t speak to him again until they got in the car.
Dave drove, and the two of them headed to the water activity location.
Laurent, wearing sunglasses, kept her eyes turned away from Dave the entire time, not speaking to him.
The scorching sun was overhead, and every time Laurent thought about it, and then thought about Dave refusing to apply sunscreen, it made her even angrier.
What’s the big deal about a grown man wearing sunscreen? Is his pride more important than his skin and health?
Dave didn’t realize that Laurent was genuinely angry. To him, it seemed like a minor issue. Whether or not he put on sunscreen was his own decision. After she had tried to convince him without success, he didn’t see any reason for her to be upset.
