Chapter 238: Chapter 238- more upset

However, when he stopped midway to buy water and drinks, and asked her what flavor she wanted, she gave him a cold stare. That’s when he realized she was really upset.

Unable to get any response from her in the car, Dave decided to get out, walk over to her side, and leaned against her car window, knocking on the glass with a cool gesture.

If it were any other time, this move would’ve been suave, full of charm, like something straight out of a flirtation manual.

But now, Laurent didn’t want to deal with him at all. She turned her face away and gave him the cold shoulder.

Undeterred, he continued knocking, and Laurent, irritated and aware they still had to keep driving, rolled down the window to snap at him.

"What do you want?"

He lazily leaned against the car door, smiling.

"I’m offering you a drink. What flavor do you want?"

"No, thanks. I’m not thirsty."

Laurent coldly replied and was about to roll the window up, but he stopped her.

"It’s so hot. Even if you’re not thirsty, you should still drink more water."

Without hesitation, she shot back at him.

"Then, since it’s so hot, shouldn’t you apply more sunscreen if you don’t care about getting sunburned?"

Dave, "..."

With her sharp tongue, he couldn’t even argue with her.

Laurent let out a cold hum, rolled the window back up, and ignored him completely.

After a while, the car window was knocked on again. Laurent thought it was Dave, so she turned around and rolled down the window, irritated.

"How many times do you—"

But before she could finish her sentence, she froze. The person knocking on her window wasn’t Dave, but a little boy.

a little boy.

The boy, a local with dark skin and a thin frame, had bright eyes and was smiling at her. When he saw her roll down the window, he stretched out his hand and offered her a bottle of drink:

"The gentleman over there asked me to give this to you."

The boy pointed to a man near a small shop, standing there drinking water with his head tilted back. However, his eyes were fixed on their direction. Dressed in a white T-shirt and black pants, Dave stood out among the locals, tall, handsome, and striking.

When Laurent looked over, she locked eyes with him. He smiled and raised the water bottle in his hand, giving her a mock "cheers" gesture. Laurent couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.

He really...

He had actually come up with the idea of sending a little boy to deliver the drink. He knew she could never resist being kind to a well-behaved child.

She reached out to take the drink from the boy and smiled as she thanked him.

The boy grinned back at her, then said:

"The gentleman said he knows he was wrong, and later, you can apply as much sunscreen on him as you want."

Laurent had just taken a sip of the drink and nearly spit it out. She looked at the boy, amused.

"Don’t argue, okay? I wish you both happiness."

The little boy finished speaking, raised his hands to make a heart shape above his head, and then ran off.

Laurent sat in the car, holding the drink, watching the boy dash back to Dave. Dave, satisfied, took money out of his pocket and handed it to the boy, probably a payment for his errand.

The boy took the money happily, and Dave even reached out to pat the boy’s head, a smile full of warmth in his eyes. The scene was incredibly heartwarming.

Laurent couldn’t help but notice that this was something she would never have seen in the old Dave. The old him had been cold and proud, almost never interacting with people. He seemed to live in his high, distant world, where business, work, meetings, social obligations, and business trips dominated.

But now, this side of him had a much more grounded and lively feel to it, which made Laurent feel that he had become more real to her.

In the past, although she had shared a bed with Dave for five years, it always felt like he existed in an unreachable world, like a distant dream. That’s why she never felt secure or truly loved.

But now, Dave was living in her world, real and tangible, making her feel safe and grounded.

After chatting with the few people at the small shop, Dave bought a few more bottles of water and drinks before walking back to the car.

When he sat down in the car, Laurent complained with a hint of annoyance.

"Couldn’t even apologize yourself? You had to send someone else, and a kid at that?"

Dave chuckled.

"I was just worried that if I apologized directly, you wouldn’t talk to me."

Laurent snorted coldly.

"You haven’t even apologized, how do you know I wouldn’t ignore you?"

Was she really that unreasonable?

Dave looked at her and found it even more amusing. Who was it just a moment ago who had given him the cold shoulder repeatedly? Either showing him her back or ignoring him completely. It was only because he had no other choice that he sent the little boy to make peace with her.

If he had directly apologized, she probably still would have ignored him. Now, she was complaining that he had sent someone else to apologize.

"Alright, don’t be angry. It was my fault earlier, I shouldn’t have refused to apply sunscreen when you told me to."

He apologized sincerely and then moved closer, taking her hand.

"Come on, apply the sunscreen for me."

This only made Laurent even more upset.

Had he known this would be the result, why hadn’t he just let her apply the sunscreen earlier? Why wait until he had upset her before he was willing to compromise?

How could he be so infuriating?

Laurent immediately pulled her hand out of his palm, took the sunscreen from her bag, and handed it to him.

"Apply it yourself!"

Then she turned her head and ignored him.

Just a moment ago, when they were at the villa, she had kindly offered to help him apply it, but he refused stubbornly. Why should she help him now just because he wanted to apply it? If he wanted to do it, he could do it himself.

Dave held the bottle of sunscreen, looking utterly despondent.

What was going on here? Just now, she complained that he hadn’t apologized in person, but now that he had, she seemed even angrier?

In over thirty years of life, Dave had never been able to figure out women’s minds. Now, holding the bottle of sunscreen, he frowned and desperately tried to figure out what he could do to make her stop being angry.

After thinking for a while, he finally decided to apply it himself.
