You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 244- so cheesy
The next day, Dave left and returned to the Villas. Laurent assumed that he would go back, change into some fresh clothes, and then head to the company.
Laurent still had a day off, so she called her parents to report that she had safely returned. She also told them that she would visit them next weekend, then started tidying up the house and organizing their belongings.
Yes, their belongings.
Someone had deliberately left a suitcase here, so he could leave some of his clothes behind, making it easier for him to stay over without worrying about not having anything to wear.
In addition, with the things he had left here when he was injured, Laurent’s place was almost half filled with his things. Looking at his suitcase, Laurent couldn’t help but shake her head. Wasn’t this essentially like living together?
At least, when talking to her father, saying they weren’t living together sounded better. But if her father actually came to visit, it would probably drive him crazy.
Laurent thought that if her father suddenly came over one day, she’d probably have to shove all his stuff into the storage cabinet under the bed.
After a busy day, Laurent went to Tiffany’s to pick up her daughter, bringing a gift she had bought for Tiffany. The person who opened the door was Dave.
The two of them, one outside the door and one inside, stood there looking at each other.
Two people who were already in sync and had confirmed their feelings for each other, just parted in the morning, and now, without any warning, meeting at Tiffany’s... it felt so... strange.
Laurent smiled and asked him,
"What are you doing here?"
Dave looked at her seriously and answered,
"I came to mooch a meal."
The look in his eyes was filled with deep longing, which made Laurent feel a bit embarrassed. They had only just parted this morning, hadn’t they?
Lilian was also at Tiffany’s. After hearing Dave’s words, she didn’t hold back and immediately exposed him,
"What are you talking about? You clearly knew Laurent was coming to see Emma, so you purposely waited here pretending to bump into her, didn’t you?"
Dave, too lazy to respond to his younger sister, stepped forward, took the things Laurent was holding, and hugged her as they walked into the house. He casually replied to Lilian,
"Yeah, I was purposely pretending to bump into her. What’s the matter, isn’t it romantic?"
Dave glanced at Lilian, who was disgusted by his words and immediately got goosebumps all over her body.
"Oh my god, seriously—"
She turned around and ran into the kitchen where Tiffany was preparing dinner, shouting,
"Mom! Oh my god, help me!"
Tiffany, not understanding why her daughter was overreacting, asked,
"What’s wrong?"
Lilian, rubbing her arms from the goosebumps, said,
"My brother went on a trip and came back like a completely different person, saying things like he was ’pretending to bump into Laurent to create romance.’ Is this really my brother? Is this really my brother?"
Lilian’s face was full of disbelief. Her brother, Dave, was in her eyes a completely aloof man, especially when he was around Laurent, he was colder than ever.
Lilian knew better than anyone what Laurent had gone through in the past five years.
Even aside from his relationship with Laurent, he had always been proud and solitary with everyone else.
He never bothered to give a single glance to the women who admired him, let alone do something as cheesy as creating romance.
And now, here he was, saying such corny things, and the way he looked at Laurent...
It was enough to drown someone in his affection.
This was completely not the cold, proud brother she knew.
Tiffany, after hearing her daughter’s words, smiled. This meant that her son had gained a lot from his trip with Laurent. If he could become the warm, affectionate Dave for Laurent, then it was clear he really had Laurent in his heart.
After Lilian came out of the kitchen, she grabbed Laurent and asked,
"So, what exactly happened on this trip? Did you find a new man and just swapped his face with my brother’s? Otherwise, how could he be so cheesy?"
Laurent couldn’t help but laugh. Lilian’s imagination was really running wild.
Dave, on the other hand, had a dark expression on his face. He glared at Lilian disapprovingly.
"Have you watched too many soap operas? Should I tell everyone about your embarrassing childhood stories to prove I’m your real brother?"
Lilian immediately shot him a dissatisfied look before turning and walking away.
When Laurent arrived, her daughter Emma Washington had just been picked up from kindergarten and was washing her hands in the bathroom, standing on a small stool. Dave wiped her hands clean and carried her out. Laurent’s eyes reddened when she saw the little girl.
"Sweetheart, Mommy missed you so much."
It had been almost a week since they last saw each other. Although they frequently video-called, it wasn’t the same as holding her in her arms face to face.
The little girl kissed Laurent softly, and Laurent hugged her tightly and kissed her several times.
Dave, standing nearby, watched them with a warm gaze. He gently comforted her,
"Next time we travel, let’s bring Emma along."
Laurent nodded. She truly never wanted to be apart from her daughter again. Over the past six months, the turbulence in her relationship with Dave had also affected little Emma, causing her distress. Laurent felt heartbroken and guilty whenever she thought about it.
However, now that things had finally gotten back on track, she hoped that from now on, she and Dave could bring warmth and happiness to their daughter.
After spending some time with Emma, Laurent went to the kitchen to greet Tiffany. Tiffany warmly invited her to stay for dinner, and Laurent agreed, also offering to help Tiffany prepare the meal.
Actually, back when they lived at Burg Eltz, Laurent and Tiffany often worked together to prepare meals for the family. However, the atmosphere today felt different from before.
Laurent and Dave had reconciled after their divorce, and Tiffany was currently going through a separation and divorce of her own.
Both of them had gone through their share of emotional ups and downs, and as they worked in silence, neither knew exactly what to say.
Then, the doorbell rang, and Laurent noticed Tiffany paused while cutting vegetables.
Then, Lilian’s cheerful voice rang out,
"Dad? What are you doing here? Come on in."
It was Daniel.
Laurent glanced at Tiffany, seeing a trace of helplessness cross her face.
Tiffany truly felt helpless. She knew that on an occasion like this, with Dave and Laurent having reconciled, and with their daughter and granddaughter present, either their son or daughter would inevitably find an excuse to call Daniel over. This way, their family could be considered more or less reunited.
However, the reunion was what the others wanted in their hearts; Tiffany didn’t actually feel that way.
She put down the knife, washed her hands, and went outside.
Daniel had just changed his shoes and entered when he saw her. He awkwardly smiled upon seeing her standing there.
Dave, standing nearby, explained,
"I bought some gifts for my dad when Laurent and I were out, but I didn’t have time to deliver them, so I asked him to come pick them up."
It was the first time Dave had told such a half-hearted lie, and by the end of his sentence, he felt uneasy.
How could he not have time? It was just an excuse to give his father a reason to come over to see his mother.
Tiffany didn’t expect her son to be the one behind this plan, and she was a little angry, though she understood their desire as children to have their parents at peace.
After glaring at her son, she asked,
"Where are the gifts?"
Dave handed her a bag, and Tiffany took it. She walked up to Daniel, handed him the bag, and politely told him to leave,
"Your son gave them to you, now you can go."
Daniel froze. Behind Tiffany stood their son, their daughter, Laurent, and even their little granddaughter, who had peeked out of the bedroom to secretly watch what was happening.
Daniel, a man almost sixty years old, felt utterly humiliated. He took the bag and turned to leave.
"Hey, Dad—"
In the end, only Lilian felt sorry for him, chasing after Daniel as he walked out. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Once Daniel left, Tiffany acted as if nothing had happened and returned to the kitchen to continue preparing dinner.
