You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 278- childish
The little girl had developed quite a picky appetite over the years, thanks to her and Tiffany’s care. What if the food wasn’t to her liking and she refused to eat? The little one was growing at a rapid rate, after all...
Sigh, just thinking about it made her head hurt.
Laurent rubbed her forehead as she walked out of the tea room. When she ran into a colleague, the colleague noticed the worried look on her face and asked with concern:
"Laurent, what’s wrong? You look so upset."
Laurent felt embarrassed.
Could she really say she was worried that the man at home wouldn’t be able to cook properly and they’d all go hungry?
She wasn’t sure whether her colleague would think she was just showing off her relationship, so in the end, she simply smiled at her colleague and said she was fine before walking away.
After ending the call with Laurent, Dave dialed Tiffany’s number. His original intention was to go and learn how to cook from her, but Tiffany, on the other end, said,
"Since you have time, could you take me to the hospital?"
As soon as Tiffany mentioned the hospital, Dave immediately knew she was going to visit her father. So, he jokingly teased her,
"You’re not going there to divorce him, are you?"
Tiffany let out a somewhat exasperated laugh. This son of hers—how did he become so talkative and lively all of a sudden?
Tiffany knew her son’s personality better than anyone else. From childhood to adulthood, he had always been the quiet type. If something could be said in one sentence, he’d never say two. Joking around or lighthearted banter—those things were never his thing. He was always reserved, and those things were left to his sister.
He grew up with an air of coldness, and later, when he took over managing Washington Co., that only intensified. He became stern both inside and out.
Tiffany once worried about how he would get along with his girlfriend, and even with a wife and kids—wondering if his cold personality would push people away.
Later, he married Laurent. At first, Tiffany was filled with worries, afraid that her son might make things difficult for the young girl. But over time, she became more at ease, because although her son was cold, Laurent’s personality was warm—so warm that sometimes even her son had trouble keeping up.
Tiffany thought, a balance of cold and warm—such complementary personalities really do suit each other.
At the same time, this complementary dynamic subtly influences both of them. Laurent had become much more composed due to her son’s influence, and her son had become a bit livelier because of Laurent.
For instance, just now when her son joked with her, if it had been before, he would never have said such a playful thing. He had always been serious.
But this is what marriage is, isn’t it? This is what life together is about.
Being together for years, influencing each other and changing along the way is inevitable.
These changes might not be obvious to outsiders, as they are small and trivial. They might not even notice them themselves, but they are real and undeniable.
She replied to her son with a smile,
"I’m not that selfish to bring up divorce at a time like this."
The children had already discussed Daniel’s illness, the cause, and the treatment plan. If she were to bring up divorce now, he would probably be so upset that it might kill him.
She wasn’t that coldhearted. After all, they had been married for over thirty years.
She had never wanted him to die. When she had angrily brought up the topic of divorce, it was because her son’s failed marriage to Laurent had stirred up all the resentment she had been harboring against Daniel for so many years.
Although she resented and hated him, it wasn’t to the point where she wished for his death.
And now, with her son and Laurent back together, happily loving each other, Daniel’s reaction and attitude during this incident had made her reflect deeply. She found that she didn’t harbor as much resentment toward him anymore.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have chosen to visit him today, right?
After all, how many men in this world would be willing to squander all their wealth for a woman?
To say she wasn’t moved would be a lie.
Though at her age, she no longer sought that passionate, dramatic love; what she sought now was companionship. Still, having both love and companionship was far better than just having companionship without love, wasn’t it?
Dave went to pick up his mother, and together they went to the hospital to visit Daniel.
He had expected Daniel to be happy to see Tiffany, but when Tiffany entered the hospital room, Daniel paused for a moment. There was a clear look of surprise on his face, but the next second, he suddenly turned his back, ignoring them both. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
No matter how much Dave called him, Daniel wouldn’t respond, making Dave feel quite awkward, and Tiffany, even more so.
The mother and son were completely puzzled by Daniel’s behavior. After exchanging a glance, Dave whispered to his mother,
"Why don’t you wait outside? I’ll talk to him."
Dave was also frustrated by his father’s actions. He thought his father must have been eager for Tiffany to visit, but now he was purposely ignoring them. Was he trying to provoke his mother into completely ignoring him?
Tiffany nodded and turned to leave the room. As soon as the door closed behind her, Daniel quickly turned his head to look, and when he saw that Tiffany had disappeared, the disappointment on his face was evident.
Dave noticed his father’s expression and asked him irritably,
"Didn’t you want mom to visit you? What is this behavior now?"
"I do want her to visit, but I’m afraid she’ll bring up the divorce..." Daniel awkwardly explained.
Dave, "..."
"So you think avoiding her will stop the divorce?"
Dave found his father’s behavior childish.
"You’re just burying your head in the sand!"
Daniel didn’t say anything. He knew very well that he was just burying his head in the sand, but for him, avoiding her for one more day meant postponing the divorce for one more day.
Yet, in his heart, he actually longed for her visit, longed to see her, and longed to know whether Bert had made things difficult for her when he took her away.
"She said she won’t bring up the divorce today."
Dave, unable to tolerate his father’s childishness, shared Tiffany’s intention for the visit with him, giving his father some peace of mind.
Daniel immediately became more alert.
"Really? She won’t mention the divorce?"
Dave snorted.
"Yep."
"Well, well then, could you go get her for me?"
Daniel’s tone was filled with anticipation.
"She’s probably already been driven away by you."
Dave casually dropped the remark, then turned and left the room to find his mother, leaving Daniel in the room feeling anxious for quite some time.
Tiffany, of course, had not left. She was standing quietly by the window at the end of the hallway. Dave approached her and relayed Daniel’s awkward thoughts to her.
"He said he’s avoiding you because he’s afraid you’ll bring up the divorce."
Tiffany shook her head with a smile. Then Dave added,
"I told him that you wouldn’t talk about the divorce today and that I’d go get you."
This time, Tiffany was at a loss for words.
Nevertheless, she went back into Daniel’s room. Dave didn’t follow her in, but stopped at the door to say to Tiffany,
"I’m going out to handle something. If you’re done, give me a call, and I’ll come pick you up."
Tiffany nodded and stepped into the room.
Dave wanted to give his parents some time alone, and he also wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to go to the supermarket to buy ingredients, since he had promised to make lunch for Laurent.
As soon as Tiffany entered Daniel’s hospital room, Daniel nervously apologized to her.
"I’m sorry, just now I—"
"It’s fine."
Tiffany stopped him from saying more and sat down on the chair by the bedside, asking,
"Are you feeling better today?"
