Chapter 303: Chapter 303- Uncle Bert

Laurent didn’t know that Bert was there as well, but seeing that they were discussing something, she decided to wait with her daughter at the side and didn’t interrupt them.

About fifteen minutes later, the discussion seemed to be over, and as Dave turned his head, he noticed Laurent waiting with her daughter at the side. Without hesitation, he abandoned his conversation with Bert and walked over to them.

"Have you been waiting long?"

Laurent shook her head.

"No, just arrived."

"Daddy—"

Her daughter happily jumped into Dave’s arms. But in the next moment, she noticed Bert getting up by the reservoir and immediately called out,

"Uncle Bert, Uncle Bert—"

The little girl was more excited to see Bert than Dave, and Dave couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy. But even though he was jealous, he still let go of his daughter and allowed her to run to Bert.

The reason the little girl was so excited to see Bert was that the dress she was wearing that day was one of the designs Bert had made for her. The factory sample room had taken advantage of a lull in work to make a few of them, and the little girl loved it so much that she wished she could wear it every day.

The little girl would proudly show off to anyone that the dress she was wearing was specially designed by her Uncle Bert, which made many of the other little girls envy her. Bert’s designs were indeed beautiful and cute, and several times when Laurent went to pick up her daughter, other parents would ask where she had bought the dress.

She would tell them that it was designed by her daughter’s uncle and made by someone he knew, and those parents would ask if it was possible for him to make one just like it for their own children.

Laurent looked at her daughter, who was running toward Bert, and asked Dave, puzzled,

"Why is he here?"

Dave, with a somewhat smug expression, replied,

"There’s something tricky at the company, and he’s here to ask me for advice."

Laurent couldn’t help but laugh,

"He can ask for advice, but why does he have to look so proud like he’s got his tail sticking up in the air?"

He really was acting so smug.

Dave smiled, wrapped his arm around her, and they both walked toward Bert.

The little girl had already reached Bert ahead of them, eagerly asking,

"Uncle Bert, are you here to spend the weekend with us?"

The little girl naturally assumed so, but Bert smiled and replied,

"No, I’m here to ask your dad about something."

Then Bert looked her dress up and down again.

"The dress is beautiful, it suits you very well."

The little girl was wearing a light gray, fluffy tulle skirt today. Many people might think that light gray is too mature or dull for a child, but Bert had boldly chosen to use it and designed the skirt as a soft, flowing tulle piece. It gave off a light, airy, lively, and playful vibe, and without anyone noticing, it subtly conveyed an elegance that belonged to little girls.

The little girl especially loved this one. She had heard they were going on a weekend trip and had specifically asked to wear it.

So when she saw Bert, she was especially excited. After hearing Bert compliment her, she sweetly thanked him,

"Thank you, Uncle Bert, for designing such a beautiful dress for me."

No one could resist a sweet-talking child, especially one as cute and charming as her. Bert couldn’t help but smile,

"You’re welcome."

To him, these designs were just a simple task.

Dave and Laurent walked over together, and Bert looked at them. Laurent politely greeted Bert,

"Hello."

At this moment, both out of courtesy and reason, she should have spoken to Bert.

In fact, she didn’t have any deep animosity toward Bert. If she had been worried and panicked when he took their daughter away once, now, seeing how well he got along with their daughter and the beautiful dresses he had designed for her, she no longer held any grudges against him.

"Hello."

Bert glanced at her and replied briefly, then placed the fishing rod aside. He turned to Dave and said,

"Thanks for today. I won’t bother you anymore. I’ll head off now."

Dave glanced at the large bucket of fish.

"Don’t go yet. You’ve caught so many fish. Stay for a full fish dinner with us."

Dave’s invitation wasn’t exactly warm, but it wasn’t cold either.

"No, I won’t stay. I won’t disturb you."

Bert had absolutely no interest in any full fish dinner, let alone the fact that most of those fish were his catch.

With that, he turned and started walking away. The little girl, however, grabbed his big hand and blinked her big eyes at him like shining stars in the night sky.

"Uncle Bert, stay and eat with us. I’ve been wanting Dad to invite you to dinner because I want to thank you for designing such a beautiful dress for me."

Bert had no intention of staying for dinner with them. The three of them were warm and happy together—what would he be doing there? He would be like a big, unnecessary light bulb. Besides, he had never shared a meal with Dave before in his life, and he wasn’t used to it. He assumed Dave wasn’t either.

But facing the little girl like this, Bert couldn’t refuse. So, in the end, the four of them headed back to the villa together.

Dave held the bucket of fish in one hand and Laurent’s hand in the other as they walked ahead. Bert, with the little girl by his side, slowed down his pace and distanced himself from them.

As Bert walked, he couldn’t help but think that the sight of the couple holding hands ahead of them was rather annoying. So, he intentionally walked more slowly to put some distance between them.

Bert had never thought of himself as someone who liked children. He had never believed he had the patience for them. He always found children to be a nuisance and noisy. Perhaps it was because he had experienced so much hardship as a child that he instinctively rejected them.

However, he never expected all his resistance to children to be completely useless in front of Dave’s daughter, Emma Washington.
