You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 304- discuss
Every time he looked into her clear and beautiful eyes, he felt like his heart was melting, soft and warm.
Dave handed the fish he had caught over to the villa’s kitchen to be prepared. The four of them had reserved a private room and were waiting inside. Fortunately, with the little girl around, she kept chatting away with Bert, which helped ease the tension between the three adults and prevented things from becoming too awkward.
It was the first time in their lives that Dave and Bert sat together at the same dinner table. Both of them felt somewhat uncomfortable, but they endured it. They weren’t sure why they managed to get through it, maybe because they both cared about their fathers deeply and didn’t want them to witness the rift between them, which could lead to a conflict.
Perhaps they couldn’t truly let go of their grudges in their hearts, but they could manage to maintain a surface-level peace.
Dave and Laurent had a bit to drink, since they were staying overnight anyway. Bert, on the other hand, didn’t touch any alcohol. During the meal, he only used water in his glass instead of wine and raised his glass to Laurent, thanking him.
Laurent understood what the thank-you was for—Bert was referring to the fact that Matthew had resumed collaborating with him on the design drafts.
He must have known that if she hadn’t let go of her grievances, Matthew would never have willingly worked with him again.
Laurent didn’t say much. She silently took a sip of her wine, as a response to Bert’s thanks.
After dinner, Bert left without any delay and drove back to Burg Eltz. For Bert, after receiving Dave’s guidance, he needed to quickly reorganize everything and couldn’t afford any delays.
The happiest person during the meal was undoubtedly the little girl, as she had finally fulfilled her small wish: to invite Uncle Bert to dinner and personally thank him for designing such a beautiful dress for her. What she didn’t know was that all the fish they ate tonight were actually caught by Bert himself...
After dinner, the family of three went for a walk outside before returning to their room. After freshening up, Laurent began to tidy up the luggage for all three of them, while Dave held their daughter in his arms, asking her some very childish questions. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
For example:
"Do you love daddy?"
The little girl nodded without hesitation.
"Of course, I love him."
Dave asked again.
"Do you love Uncle Bert?"
The little girl nodded just as decisively.
"Mm-hmm."
"Then, do you love your daddy, or do you love Uncle Bert?"
Since the afternoon, Dave had been bothered by the fact that his daughter seemed to favor Bert so much. She had been clinging to Bert for half the day, and it had been on his mind.
After Dave asked this question, the little girl opened her mouth without thinking, ready to say she loved them both equally. But when she glanced up and caught a look from her mother, who was packing nearby, she quickly changed her response, answering in a bright, crisp voice:
"I love daddy."
Dave’s heart instantly soared with joy, and he lifted his daughter high above his head, playfully tossing her into the air.
As for why Laurent had to remind his daughter, it was because someone’s jealousy was too strong. If his daughter gave an answer he didn’t want to hear, he probably would have really lost his temper, and if he did, this weekend would likely not go well for her and their daughter. He would keep pestering her, asking who she loved.
At her age, the little girl didn’t have such clear concepts of love and hate. She simply loved whoever treated her well.
Before falling asleep, Laurent had something important she wanted to tell Dave. She had planned to say it as soon as they arrived today, but because Bert was there, she couldn’t bring herself to say it.
After getting their daughter to sleep, she still wanted to speak, but then Dave lifted her shirt and pressed her into the bed, kissing her eagerly. She had no mind for anything else, just focusing on holding him and returning his affection.
During the moment, she remembered the thing she wanted to say, and it suddenly made her feel quite melancholic. So, she turned the attention back to kissing him passionately, her hands and legs wrapping around him as if she wanted to become one with him. Her enthusiastic response made Dave’s strength and movements even more intense.
After a passionate and fulfilling encounter, Laurent had no strength left to say anything, and she fell asleep in Dave’s arms.
Laurent waited until the next day, when their daughter was taking a nap, to bring up what she had been meaning to say to Dave. Unfortunately, Laurent knew this matter could lead to an argument, and she didn’t want to fight in front of their daughter, so she chose to speak up only when their daughter was asleep.
It was around midday, with the sunlight just right. Their daughter was napping in her room, while the two of them sat on the balcony in wicker chairs, sipping wine and soaking up the sun. The warm rays streamed through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing them in a pleasant warmth, creating a relaxing atmosphere.
After taking a sip of wine, Laurent, with just a hint of alcohol in her system, finally spoke up.
"Um... there’s something I’d like to discuss with you..."
"What is it?"
Dave turned to look at her, and Laurent gathered her courage to continue.
"Well, the thing is, Matthew is opening a branch office in E city soon. It’s a well-known foreign trade hub in the country, with many clients and excellent factories. Matthew said—"
By this point, Dave had already narrowed his eyes in a dangerous way, and Laurent could almost see the fire flare up in his chest. He could guess where this conversation was headed.
Sure enough, Laurent continued.
"Matthew said he wants to send me there temporarily to help manage the branch office... for a year..."
Laurent spoke these words with some unease, especially toward the end, when she could practically feel the murderous look in Dave’s eyes. Her voice grew quieter as she spoke.
Laurent knew that if she agreed to go, she and Dave would be facing a long-distance relationship, which would not be good for their feelings. But, from a professional and career perspective, she really wanted to go. She felt that spending a year there would be a great opportunity to develop her skills.
