Chapter 307: Chapter 307- become better

Alex showed clear discomfort, thinking to himself, "Why are you coming here after fighting with my daughter? She’s my daughter, of course I’m going to defend her."

Dave, sensing Alex’s unwelcoming attitude, responded, "I didn’t want you to get involved. It’s just that I had nowhere else to go after leaving, so I ended up here."

He made his situation sound pitiful. Although he claimed not to want their involvement, deep down, he hoped they would take his side and help resolve the issue.

Cassy, unable to stand seeing him like this, walked over and invited him to sit on the couch, "Alright, tell us what happened. Why did you two argue?"

Dave then told AlexCassy about Laurent’s plan to be sent to A.T. for a year. After saying this, he quickly clarified his position:

"I think after everything we’ve been through, it’s better if we don’t separate again. It wouldn’t be good for our relationship or for Emma."

"But her desire to go is really strong. She’s already made plans for me and our daughter to go to A.T. and stay with her," Dave explained simply, giving the reason for the situation, and made his stance clear. He subtly used their relationship and daughter to make AlexCassy feel that Laurent was in the wrong, leading her to believe the issue was Laurent’s fault from the start.

After Dave finished speaking, Alex gave a displeased grunt. However, upon Cassy’s silent cue, Alex kept quiet.

In many cases, when couples argue, the parents are in a difficult position. They are afraid that any advice might make things worse, so Cassy desperately signaled to Alex to keep quiet.

After a moment of thought, Cassy spoke:

"This is something Laurent should have thought through. Here’s what we’ll do: you stay here for now. I’ll call Laurent and talk to him."

Cassy had no choice but to scold her daughter for now.

"No, no. There’s no need to call her just yet. Let’s let her cool off, and I’ll cool off too," Dave quickly stopped Cassy from calling Laurent. He still hoped to use the tactic of "leaving home" to make her worry and ultimately compromise.

Moreover, secretly, he hoped that Laurent wouldn’t find out he had come to her parents’ house. After all, it didn’t look too good to run to the in-laws after an argument and complain.

Since he said so, Cassy had no choice but to listen and not call her daughter for now. As a result, Dave stayed at their place.

Dave believed that by taking such a drastic step of "leaving home," he was showing his anger, and Laurent would compromise, considering his feelings. What he didn’t know was that his childish actions had actually enraged Laurent, who had already agreed to go to A.T. with Matthew.

Dave also believed that by tomorrow, Laurent would surely call him to make up.

In fact, Dave was also hoping to establish his authority in this matter. Since they reconciled, he had always been the one chasing after her, unconditionally indulging and pampering her, always thinking about her and making sacrifices for her. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

This time, he wanted to prove that he had his own temper and that the household wasn’t run by her alone.

What he didn’t expect was that his attempt to assert authority would fail, and he would likely be suppressed even more in the future.

After spending two enjoyable days at the villa with their daughter, Laurent and the little girl returned to A.T. on Sunday afternoon. The house was exactly as it was when they left—Dave hadn’t come back.

Laurent couldn’t help but sneer. So he was serious about this "leaving home" business? If he left, then let him stay gone.

She tidied up the luggage for both herself and her daughter, then took a shower, cleaned the house, and cooked. Life went on in an orderly fashion for mother and daughter, without any sign of panic from the absence of Dave. During this time, their daughter asked about Dave several times, and Laurent simply told her that he was busy with work.

The little girl, however, was quite clever. She replied, "But hasn’t Daddy not been working recently?"

Laurent had no choice but to explain, "That day, didn’t you see Uncle come to see Daddy? Uncle’s company had some issues, and Daddy went to help."

Fortunately, it was thanks to Bert visiting Dave that the little girl saw him. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have known how to explain away the fact that Dave had actually run away from home.

However, although everything seemed calm on the surface, deep down, Laurent couldn’t help but care. She was still concerned about his safety.

After settling her daughter and putting her to bed, Laurent took out her phone and called Lilian, asking her to check if Dave had returned to the old house or if he had gone to Tiffany’s.

On the other end, Lilian asked in confusion, "Why don’t you just call my brother yourself? Did you two have a fight?"

Laurent sighed. "Can I say he ran away from home?"

Lilian almost burst out laughing. "Ran away from home? Hahaha—"

"Goodness, that’s just so childish!"

Laurent felt helpless. "It really is childish, but it’s also the truth."

She hadn’t expected Dave to take it this far, honestly. It was so childish—just one argument, and he’s gone off like this. Just thinking about it made her frustrated.

Lilian said she’d help her check around and hung up. Not long after, Lilian called back, saying she hadn’t found any trace of him. He hadn’t gone to any of the places she checked, not even to Morrison’s.

When Laurent heard that Lilian had even asked about Morrison, she felt something was off. When did Lilian start having contact with Morrison? However, she was so anxious about not knowing Dave’s whereabouts that she didn’t dwell on it. She just thanked Lilian and hung up the phone.

Laurent furrowed her brow, thinking about where Dave might have gone. But the places she knew of were the only ones she could check.

And didn’t he say himself that I shouldn’t worry about his safety and that he’d check in with me every day? Why hasn’t he reported in today?

Laurent never expected Bert to go to her parents’ place. She thought, after all, that it was her parents’ home, and it wasn’t appropriate for him to go there. Besides, he probably wouldn’t feel comfortable going. So, she didn’t call her parents to ask about Dave.

Instead, she called Bert, subtly inquiring whether Dave had gone to find him, as she had no idea where else Dave could go.

Bert replied indifferently, saying no. Laurent didn’t say much more, just said goodbye and was about to hang up when Bert spoke, sounding a bit amused.

"Don’t tell me you two had a fight."

Laurent silently acknowledged it. There was nothing shameful about a couple arguing, but the embarrassing part was that someone had run away from home.

Bert added, "The only person who can control him, aside from his mother, is probably you."

Dave wasn’t someone easy to manage or control. Aside from the people he cared about, no one could handle him. That’s why he’d once taken Tiffany and their daughter with him.

Laurent was feeling extremely frustrated and didn’t have much to say to Bert, so she just hung up the phone.

That night, she didn’t sleep well. She knew she wasn’t being unreasonable. Her insistence on going to A.T. was simply to improve herself. The opportunity to manage a subsidiary company from scratch was rare, even extremely rare. If she ever wanted to start her own company and be a boss, this year of experience would be invaluable to her.

Of course, her child and her man were important, but she only had one life. She wanted to live it in a way that was fulfilling and brilliant, so she wasn’t willing to give up any opportunity that could help her become better.
