Chapter 50: Chapter 50- just throw it away

After sending off the lord, Dave returned to Daniel’s hospital room and saw Lilian leaning against the wall beside the room, her head down, holding her phone and seemingly chatting with someone.

Standing there, he squinted his eyes and observed Lilian for a moment. She had a troubled expression, almost on the verge of crying. He quickly walked over and snatched the phone from her hands.

If he guessed correctly, Lilian was chatting with Laurent.

He knew his sister’s temperament very well. With so much happening recently, he found everything chaotic, and he couldn’t imagine how overwhelming it must be for Lilian, who had never really faced hardship.

She must have been struggling to cope and needed someone to talk to. And the things weighing on her—like his divorce with Laurent and their parents’ separation—were personal matters that she couldn’t discuss with just anyone. Therefore, her only confidant could be Laurent.

Their relationship had been very good over the years, and she shared everything with Laurent.

Sure enough, when he grabbed Lilian’s phone and checked, the chat was with Laurent. Since she had logged into another account, he didn’t know the password, so he couldn’t access it on her phone.

He quickly skimmed through their conversation, where Lilian had sent a crying emoji to Laurent:

"Laurent, sis, I’m so frustrated... So many things have happened at home recently, I can barely handle it. I just want to fall in love, I just want to find a man’s shoulder to lean on..."

Lilian, whose phone had been snatched away by him, sulked and protested.

"Hey, bro, why are you like this? Give me back my phone!"

He sidestepped to avoid the hand Lilian reached out with, then raised his arm higher so Lilian couldn’t reach it.

Then he saw the reply she had sent to Lilian:

"Lilian, don’t be impulsive! Don’t blindly fall into a relationship with a man. If you lean on the wrong shoulder, the only one who ends up hurt is you."

Lilian, feeling a little embarrassed, replied:

"Sorry, Laurent, sis, I’ve brought up your sad memories again."

She sent Lilian a smiley emoji in response:

"There’s no need to apologize. I’m honored that you trust me enough to consider me a friend and come to me for advice. Besides, there’s nothing to be sad about. Once the divorce is over, it’s all in the past. People need to look forward, don’t they?"

Then she asked Lilian about Daniel’s condition, and as Dave read that line about moving forward, he felt a surge of anger.

She had entangled him for five years, ruined half of his life, and now she was casually saying everything was in the past, that people should move forward?

How could she think everything would go so smoothly?!

At that moment, Dave held down the voice message and coldly, angrily asked,

"When are you coming to get your phone and luggage?"

Lilian, furious, tugged at his sleeve, trying to stop him. However, it was too late, the voice message had already been sent.

Lilian, stomping her foot in anger, yelled,

"Do you have any manners at all?!"

Dave ignored her, still holding her phone, waiting for Laurent’s reply. Lilian, unable to do anything about it, turned away in frustration to sulk.

With such poor manners, no wonder he went from being liked to being hated, no wonder she didn’t want to contact him anymore.

Dave might have wanted to maintain his composure, but if he couldn’t get in touch with a certain woman in a graceful way, he’d have to resort to tactics like this.

Meanwhile, Laurent, who had been napping, was awakened by the message from Lilian. Leaning back against the headboard, he began comforting Lilian. But when he heard Dave’s voice suddenly come through the voice message, he furrowed his brows in disgust.

What was wrong with him? Why couldn’t he just leave her alone? He had already caused trouble in her group chat with Vivian and the others, and now he was showing up through Lilian’s account.

What a lunatic!

Irritated, Laurent pressed the voice message button to reply, saying,

"I don’t want the phone or the luggage, just throw it away."

There was no way she would go back to him for a phone or a few pieces of clothing. She would rather throw them all away than see him again.

Besides, her mother had already given her her own phone to use, while she herself went back to using an old phone.

As for the clothes, she could just buy new ones. Although she wasn’t working at the moment, her parents’ financial situation wasn’t so bad that she’d be lacking in food or clothing. And anyway, she had only brought a few clothes with her to relax with Marylin and the others. Everything else, Adeline had sent back to her, though it hadn’t arrived yet.

Dave was very displeased with her cold and harsh tone:

"What kind of attitude is that? Over and over again, rude and barbaric—are you even a woman?!"

Laurent let out a cold laugh:

"Dave, this is the real me. Besides, how can you expect a divorced woman to have a good temper? It’s already pretty good that she’s not mentally unstable and stabbing you in the back!"

Dave was so enraged by her sharp words that he couldn’t find anything to say. She was even threatening to stab him with a knife? Wasn’t that a bit too much?

Then, noticing she had sent another voice message, he reluctantly opened it. It was her irritated words, directed at Lilian:

"Lilian, if you can’t even protect your own phone, I’m sorry, but I’ll have to block you."

It wasn’t that Laurent didn’t care about her relationship with Lilian, but Dave had already contacted her twice through Lilian’s phone, and she didn’t want to be bothered anymore.

She couldn’t pretend to be friends after a breakup. She had truly loved him, and after the breakup, there were no friends left, only strangers.

Everyone’s personality is different. Some couples remain good friends after divorce, while others become strangers. Her choice was to neither stay friends nor hold grudges after the divorce—just to become strangers.

When Lilian heard that Laurent was going to block her, she immediately panicked, rushing over to snatch the phone from Dave’s hand. She hurriedly explained:

"Sorry, Laurent, sis, please don’t block me! I couldn’t help it—just now I was chatting with you, and my brother suddenly came in. I wasn’t prepared, and he snatched my phone away..."

As she explained, Lilian quickly ran to the nearby emergency stairwell, locking the door behind her to keep Dave from taking her phone and making things difficult for Laurent.

Dave’s face darkened even more. She was his sister, but she was also that woman’s sister!

And she actually said she didn’t want the phone or the luggage? How heartless could she be?

Then he thought, if she didn’t even want her daughter, what else could she possibly care about?

His hand, which was stuffed in his pocket, gripped her phone tightly. He suddenly remembered Morrison’s analysis: she didn’t love him anymore.

How could that be?

She had loved him for five years. How could she just stop loving him?

But then he thought about his relationship with Clark. They had been college classmates, together for several years, and had once been passionately in love. After being forced to break up with Clark, he constantly thought about getting him back.

But when Clark really did come back, it was in such a miserable state. And all Dave thought about was helping him through the hard times. He had no intention of rekindling their relationship or staying together forever.

It turned out that feelings really could change. What had once been intense could fade, what had once been passionate could cool, and love could turn into... indifference.
