You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 51- Let’s talk
Feelings really can change.
Just like his feelings for Clark, just like Laurent’s feelings for him...
After thinking about all of this, it seemed that Morrison was right when he said that she didn’t love him anymore.
This realization made him feel quite uncomfortable. To ease the discomfort, he casually pulled out a cigarette to smoke, only to be stopped by a passing nurse. That’s when he remembered he was still in the hospital and still holding Daniel’s admission form.
Taking a deep breath, he suppressed all the emotions in his eyes, and with the form in hand, he walked into Daniel’s hospital room.
Daniel had been lying in bed, and knowing it was Dave who came in, he deliberately kept his eyes closed.
Dave couldn’t be bothered to care. He placed the form on the table beside the bed and then spoke with a tone full of sarcasm:
"Whose call could have made you faint? It couldn’t be anyone else, could it?"
In truth, Dave didn’t even need to ask. He already knew who had called, but he still deliberately mocked Daniel. After all, he was just pretending to be sick.
The person who made that call could only be the illegitimate child that Daniel constantly protected. Who else could it be?
It was almost laughable. He always protected that illegitimate child, yet that child constantly made him angry. This time, the child even managed to make him faint. It was also said that several years ago, when his competitors exposed the scandal about him having an illegitimate child, it was that child who orchestrated the whole thing.
As expected, Daniel couldn’t hold it in any longer. He angrily sat up in bed, glaring at Dave. Dave, with his hands in his pockets, stood by the bed, not backing down in the slightest, and stared right back at him.
The two of them faced off for a long while, and in the end, Daniel sighed in defeat and said,
"Let’s talk."
Dave sneered, glanced at his watch, and said,
"Sorry, I have a meeting soon. I’ll leave now."
Without another word, he turned and walked away. Daniel, furious, shouted from behind,
"Stop!"
But Dave kept walking, leaving Daniel reddened with anger.
Lilian didn’t return to the room until she saw Dave leave. Daniel, seeing her enter, immediately suppressed his anger and said,
"Lilian, I’m a bit hungry. Could you ask your mom to make me some chicken soup?"
Lilian frowned in frustration,
"Dad, you’re making it really difficult for me. Mom hasn’t even come to see you; how could she possibly make you soup?"
Daniel’s face reddened with embarrassment, but he still insisted,
"Just tell her I’m really sick!"
Lilian, helpless, could only agree to go home. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
After leaving the hospital, Dave hesitated for a moment in the car before starting the engine and heading onto the city expressway. His destination: Laurent’s parents’ house. Her phone and luggage—if she wanted to discard them, it was up to her.
Laurent, who had originally planned to catch up on sleep, found herself wide awake after Dave’s disturbance. She decided to get up, open her laptop, and look for a job.
When looking for a job, Laurent had no particular salary requirements. As long as the job allowed her to work, that was enough. However, when it came to the type of job, she had her own insistence: it had to involve her specialty—Japanese.
Although she had probably forgotten many words and her speaking skills weren’t as fluent as before, she was determined to study hard and recover the knowledge she had let slip away in the shortest time possible.
She was currently in a third-tier city, unlike a metropolitan area like the capital, which had many foreign enterprises. Therefore, she didn’t hold out much hope for translation work. Plus, with her current level of Japanese, taking a translation job would probably delay a company’s business.
Fortunately, in her city, the export trade was quite active, with many factories, each having its own foreign trade department. These departments needed someone who knew foreign languages to liaise with international clients and secure orders for the factory.
She thought this job was a good fit for her and aligned with her major. So, she sent her resume to several factories that were hiring.
Her resume was honest, detailing her five years as a housewife.
But she included all the Japanese language certifications she had earned, which were hard-earned and irrefutable. She also attached records of her participation in various Japanese debate and speech competitions during college, highlighting her achievements to prove her capabilities.
After the initial struggle to perfect her resume, she decided that perhaps it was better to be simple and honest. Often, employers or bosses valued an employee’s character, and honesty was an essential trait in a person’s character.
So, she included the fact that she had no work experience on her resume, being completely transparent.
After sending out her resume, Laurent stood up, stretched, and moved her arms and legs a bit. Then she walked out to get some water.
She felt that sending out her resume meant the start of her new life.
At the moment, she also needed to get a new phone card. She didn’t want to continue using her old one. After all, her social circle in the capital had been small, and there was no one particularly important on that card. The people she regularly contacted were just her parents and a few close friends, like Adeline. She could tell them her new number privately once she got it.
The remaining contacts were mostly relatives of Dave’s or some of his friends. Over the years, she had done everything expected of a good wife, managing the household affairs with efficiency so that he could run his company without any worries.
She also had a few of his friends’ numbers, like Morrison’s, but there was no need to contact them anymore. Those were the people who called her when he was out drinking during business gatherings, either asking her to answer his phone or to let them in.
Now that they were divorced, they naturally had no reason to contact her. They could go and find his lover, Clark.
Leaving her bedroom, she saw Cassy in the kitchen starting to prepare lunch, and Alexwatching TV. She grabbed a cup to get some water, but just as she was about to fill it, the doorbell suddenly rang.
"Who is it?"
Alex asked as he stood up to answer the door.
There was a brief silence outside, and just as Alex reached the door, a deep male voice came from the other side.
"It’s me, Dave."
Laurent froze in place with the cup in her hand, and her anger surged up in an instant.
What was he still doing here?!
Before the divorce, he didn’t even visit her family once a year, but now that they were divorced, what was he here for?
However, someone else in the house, having recognized the voice, became angrier than her. Her father, who had initially planned to answer the door, suddenly turned around and stormed back into the room, looking for something to hit Dave with.
