You're Just My Ex-Husband,My Lord-Chapter 84- Has Leonardo called you?
Vivian’s hospital room was a single occupancy, and the environment was very peaceful.
The newborn baby was quietly sleeping, Vivian was resting, and Frank was sitting by her bed, talking to her.
When Laurent knocked and entered, Frank had just let go of Vivian’s hand, his eyes seemingly a bit moist.
Laurent asked them,
"What happened?"
"Don’t even mention it," Vivian said, with a hint of annoyance in her voice. "He just cried when he thought about how I was in the delivery room, in so much pain, pale as a ghost."
With Frank’s help, Vivian sat up in bed, looking at Laurent with a face full of disdain.
"Can you believe it? A grown man, and yet he’s so faint-hearted. I really can’t stand him."
Though Vivian was complaining, the smile on her face was impossible to hide.
As soon as Vivian finished speaking, she spotted Dave, who had followed them into the room while holding their daughter. She immediately became flustered and turned to Laurent, asking anxiously,
"Why did he come with you?"
Laurent, not knowing how to explain why Dave had come along, could only say,
"Don’t worry about it. I’ll explain later when I have time."
Vivian was reluctant to give up and pulled Laurent over, continuing to ask,
"Are you two getting back together?"
Laurent, helpless, replied,
"How could that be!"
Her answer was so firm that Vivian couldn’t press further. She turned her attention back to Frank, who, out of politeness, had already started to welcome Dave.
Vivian, though still reluctantly, smiled and greeted Dave, because after all, guests were guests.
After the pleasantries, Emma Washington, curious, wanted to see the baby brother. Dave, holding her, stood by the crib, while Laurent sat in the chair by the bed, quietly chatting with Vivian and exchanging parenting tips.
Vivian had a smooth delivery, and her recovery was quick. She would only need to stay for one more day for observation before she could be discharged.
The little girl finished looking at the baby and then ran back to them, nestling in Laurent’s arms while Vivian entertained her.
As Laurent and Vivian continued their conversation, Frank kept coming over, asking Vivian if she wanted some water, then reminding her to lie down and rest instead of sitting for too long, and even covering her with a coat to make sure she didn’t catch a cold.
He was being as gentle and caring as possible.
Dave watched all of this, and couldn’t help but think back to when Laurent gave birth to their daughter.
He had heard that she had gone from a natural birth to a C-section, enduring twice the pain.
When he showed up at the hospital on the third day, she was already able to get out of bed and walk slowly, her back slightly hunched, her hands pressing against the surgical incision on her abdomen. She looked like she was in great pain.
He remembered that he only stayed for a short time before he had to leave again due to a call from the company. During that period, he had been extremely busy.
The company had suffered significant losses because of a scandal involving his father Daniel’s illegitimate child. During the time Laurent was giving birth, he had just landed a major project that was enough to bring the Washington family business back to life.
So, he couldn’t spare time for her.
He also admitted that, at that time, the company was indeed more important to him than she was.
Thus, when it came to choosing between the company and her, he had chosen the company.
During the five days she spent in the hospital after giving birth, he only visited her twice. He had never shown the kind of thoughtful care that Frank was showing Vivian.
He hadn’t felt much about it before, but after seeing how Frank cared for Vivian, something suddenly struck him. He felt... somewhat guilty toward her.
They say there’s no harm in comparison, but after comparing, he realized he wasn’t as good as he had imagined.
Vivian was the type of person who was carefree and rough around the edges, while Frank was meticulous, constantly coming over to check on her, reminding her of this and that, which annoyed Vivian greatly. She impatiently said to him,
"Okay, okay, stop bothering me."
Laurent, unable to watch any longer, smiled and defended Frank,
"Vivian, you’re really clueless about how lucky you are. Frank is taking care of you. Some men wouldn’t care about your well-being at all."
Laurent’s intention was simply to highlight how good Frank was to Vivian and to suggest she stop being so impatient with him. However, as soon as the words left his mouth, he realized Dave was still in the room, making his words sound somewhat pointed.
In fact, in this world, there are many good men like Frank, but there are also many men who, when their wives are giving birth, don’t prioritize their wives and fail to take care of them. She wasn’t referring to just Dave; she was talking about that group of men in general.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Dave turning and leaving the room, which made Laurent feel a bit awkward. She hoped he didn’t think she was complaining.
She had never complained, not when she gave birth before, and certainly not now.
When he had been indifferent to her, it was clear that she wasn’t in his heart. If someone isn’t in your heart, naturally, they can’t show care or concern; such things can’t be forced.
Where the heart leads, the body follows, right?
When someone is in your heart, you willingly care for and cherish them, just like Frank does with Vivian.
Vivian watched Dave leave the room, a grin spreading across her face as she covered her mouth, quietly saying to Laurent,
"His face can’t hide it, can it?"
Then, she looked at her husband, Frank, and unabashedly praised him,
"Honey, you’re amazing!"
Vivian’s "amazing" was meant to compliment Frank’s thoughtful care and attention, which had clearly gotten to Dave.
Frank glanced in the direction where Dave had just left, then looked back at Laurent and suddenly asked her,
"Has Leonardo called you?"
At the mention of Leonardo’s name, Laurent was momentarily confused.
"No... no, he hasn’t—"
She hadn’t been in contact with Leonardo for years. The only way she could get news about him was through the media.
So, in truth, she wasn’t completely unaware of his life these past few years. She knew his career was doing well, knew the movies he had starred in, and knew about the rumors surrounding him and certain actresses.
It wasn’t something she was deliberately keeping up with, but since he was a celebrity, any news about him would quickly be exposed in the media. She couldn’t avoid it even if she wanted to.
Frank mumbled to himself,
"Why hasn’t he called you? I gave him your new number."
Laurent, "...."
