Chapter 93: Chapter 93- video

Dave had already stepped out of the car and was striding toward them.

His expression was as cold as frost, making one shiver despite the warm night at the cusp of summer.

He had planned to drop off the USB drive after work, but an unexpected engagement had delayed him. As soon as it was over, he drove straight here.

He remembered her saying she urgently needed it yesterday. Besides, he wanted to confront her about a few things.

But what he hadn’t anticipated was catching sight of her and Leonardo in each other’s arms, all lovey-dovey from a distance.

And then there was the USB drive’s contents— A Lifetime of Smiles for You . The thought of it made his blood boil. Angrily, he turned on the high beams, casting their glaring light on the two of them.

The three of them stood there in a tense silence.

Dave’s gaze swept over Leonardo’s face before settling on Laurent’s slightly reddened eyes. Finally, he let out a cold, sarcastic laugh.

"Ha, A Lifetime of Smiles for You , huh? How long has it been since the divorce? Couldn’t wait, could you?"

With that, he shoved the small USB drive into her hand with force and turned to leave.

Laurent glanced at the USB drive in her palm—the one she’d been wanting—and then at his retreating figure, utterly baffled.

"What a lunatic," she muttered.

A Lifetime of Smiles for You? She had no idea what he was talking about!

Hadn’t he said he wouldn’t cater to her anymore? Yet here he was, not only finding the USB drive but also going out of his way to bring it to her. What was that supposed to mean?

And who was the one being impatient here?

Wasn’t it him who couldn’t wait to run off with Clark and live happily ever after? And now he had the nerve to accuse her of being impatient?

After Dave drove away, Leonardo’s gaze darkened as it fell on the USB drive in her hand. He asked her pointedly,

"You really don’t know what he meant by that?"

"I don’t!" Laurent snapped, clearly irritated.

"Who knows what he’s babbling about? Ever since we got divorced, he’s been acting so weird!"

"You—"

Leonardo looked equally annoyed, glaring at her fiercely before saying,

"Go back and take a good look at that USB drive!"

She turned her face coldly and climbed into her private car, instructing the driver to leave.

Laurent was once again left feeling utterly confused.

What were the two of them doing? Why did it seem like both of them were angry with her? What had she done wrong?

Leonardo had told her to go back and take a good look at the USB drive—was there something on it?

She hadn’t looked at the USB drive since graduation. Wasn’t it just photos from her university days and some study materials?

After graduation, she had focused solely on her wedding to Dave, and had no time to look at these things, caught up in the joy of marrying the man she loved.

Once she got home, her mother hurried to reheat the food and, with a concerned expression, said,

"If you’re coming home this late again, give your dad a call ahead of time and have him pick you up. It’s too dangerous for a girl to be out this late!"

Laurent smiled and reassured her mother,

"It’s fine, I was on the bus the whole way, not worried about bad people. It’s just the walk from the bus stop to our home that I have to do alone."

But Cassy wasn’t reassured,

"Then have your dad meet you at the gate of the neighborhood. I’m still not comfortable with you walking that short distance."

Alex, who had been sitting nearby, nodded in agreement, and Laurent had no choice but to agree as well.

Being a parent herself, she understood her parents’ worries about her safety.

After dinner, Laurent returned to her room and plugged the USB drive into her computer to check.

It was only then that she noticed a video file called A Lifetime of Smiles for You had mysteriously appeared on the USB drive.

She clicked on it and watched the entire video.

She couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her heart as she finished.

It reminded her of the time just before graduation when Leonardo had borrowed the USB drive. After he returned it, she hadn’t looked at it again. At that time, she had just learned that Dave had agreed to marry her, and she had been so overjoyed that she hadn’t paid attention to anything else.

Now that she watched the video, she understood why Dave had mentioned something about A Lifetime of Smiles for You . Apparently, he had seen the contents of this USB drive.

It was really rude to go through someone else’s things without permission.

At the same time, she understood why Leonardo had stormed off in anger.

Leonardo had always assumed she knew about the video, but it turned out she had never seen it. She had unknowingly ignored his feelings for five years. No wonder he was upset. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

But even if she had seen it at that time, what difference would it have made?

Back then, her mind and heart were completely occupied by Dave. If she had watched the video Leonardo made, maybe she would have been touched, but she wouldn’t have chosen to be with him because of it.

As she was lost in these thoughts, her phone, which was on the table, rang. It was an unknown number.

She answered it. It was Leonardo calling, and he went straight to the point, asking,

"Did you watch the video?"

Laurent truthfully replied,

"I haven’t used this USB drive since you returned it to me. I didn’t know there was a video on it..."

"That’s not important,"

Leonardo said calmly.

"Let’s pretend I just gave you this video now. Give me your answer."

Laurent didn’t expect Leonardo to be so direct, and for a moment, she didn’t know what to say.

But Leonardo was insistent,

"If you agree to be with me, I’ll make you happy for the rest of your life. Will you?"

He spoke the words from the video—so direct and passionate—aloud.

To Laurent, it was a shock.

She had thought that after all these years, Leonardo wouldn’t be so persistent. She had assumed time would have dulled everything, but now he was...

Laurent remained silent for a moment, then responded to Leonardo,

"I just ended my marriage with Dave. I don’t want to think about relationships right now, so I’m really sorry—"

Before she could finish, Leonardo cut her off,

"You know I don’t want to hear that answer!"

"I don’t care if you don’t want to hear it, I’m still going to say it."

Laurent became just as stubborn,

"I know you care about me, but it’s exactly because you care that I can’t hurt you like this."

"I just divorced Dave. I don’t want to turn to you just to heal my wounds. That wouldn’t be fair to you."

She had once loved Dave so deeply. After just a few days of divorce, how could she be completely over it? Accepting Leonardo before she had moved on would be disrespectful to him.

On the other end, Leonardo fell silent.

He understood Laurent’s feelings, but he couldn’t wait any longer.

He just wanted to have her now, fearing that she might go back to Dave.

But after calming down and thinking it over, he realized that he had waited for all these years—what was a little more waiting?

So, he softened his tone and finally said,

"Then wait until your wounds heal, and then give me your answer."

Laurent had a bit of a headache.

"Right now, I’m just healing. Please don’t ask me these kinds of questions for now."

She truly wasn’t in the mood to think about relationships. She was swamped with work every day, and there was no time or energy for matters of love.

"I just came back from abroad and have a schedule to catch up on. I’ll visit you this weekend."

Leonardo said on the other end. Laurent quickly replied,

"I don’t have time this weekend. I have to work overtime. Don’t come!"

This was just perfect. She had planned to avoid Dave by not seeing her daughter this weekend, and now Leonardo was going to complicate things.

What was worse, Leonardo was different from Dave. Dave was usually low-key, so most people didn’t recognize him.

But Leonardo was an immensely popular, household name. If he came to see her, what if someone took a picture? Could she even live with the consequences?

"Do your thing. I’ll just consider it a holiday at your place."

Before Laurent could say anything else, Leonardo ended the call, leaving her feeling frustrated.

She had originally planned to spend the weekend browsing bookstores, but now it seemed she would have to really go to the factory and work overtime—hiding in the workshop and staying out of sight. Let’s see what they could do to her.

As she pulled the USB drive out, Laurent thought of Dave, who had forcefully shoved it into her hand. No matter how rude his attitude had been, he had driven all the way to deliver it, even overnight. She should at least thank him.

She grabbed her phone, intending to call him, but ultimately decided to send a text instead. It was just two simple words:

Thank you.

There was nothing else to say. He had helped, and she was grateful. That was all.
