Chapter 94: Chapter 94-Wish you happiness!

After storming out of Laurent’s house, Dave drove straight back to Burg Eltz. The night was deep, and since he drove at high speed the whole way, it didn’t take long for him to get back to Burg Eltz.

As soon as he arrived, he called Morrison out for a drink.

While he was angry, he also felt an inexplicable sense of unease.

This feeling of unease reminded him of the time when he realized that Clark had no allure for him at all. After Morrison had tried to set him up with a bunch of women, Dave had fled in a panic.

The reason for his unease now was that he realized he couldn’t seem to get away from Laurent.

He had always thought their relationship was like it had been at the beginning, with him in control of everything.

If he wanted her to be happy, he would make her happy; if he wanted her to suffer, he would make her suffer.

But now he realized that the one leading this relationship was no longer him.

She had taken control of his daily life and his mind.

He had always thought that she couldn’t live without him, always believed that she loved him more, which made him feel superior, never truly respecting her.

He never considered that one day she, who had loved him so deeply, would choose to leave. He thought she would unconditionally obey and accept everything he did. That was why, in his attitude toward Clark, he had never thought about her feelings, including when he stayed out all night.

However, when he saw her hugging Leonardo today, he fully understood why she had been so angry and upset about his issues with Clark.

It was because she cared, and because she cared, she couldn’t allow anyone to share him. She wanted him all to herself.

This realization made him even more agitated. His car entered Burg Eltz, and after that, he drove straight to the bar where he had arranged to meet Morrison.

Morrison, noticing how worn out Dave looked, was very curious about what he had been up to.

Because of his bad mood, Dave drank several glasses of alcohol after sitting down. When the alcohol started to take effect, he told Morrison that he had gone to Laurent’s to give her the USB drive, and by accident, he ended up saying that he had also visited her last weekend. He had been able to enter her home only thanks to her daughter and had even stayed for a meal.

Morrison, watching Dave’s confession, nearly burst into laughter. He was now a hundred percent sure that Dave had fallen for Laurent.

Under Dave’s cold, almost icy gaze, Morrison finally stopped laughing. After taking a sip of his drink, he leaned back against the bar and raised an eyebrow at Dave, asking,

"Now, you still won’t admit that you’ve fallen for Laurent?"

Dave gave him a glance and silently took another drink.

After a long silence, Dave finally spoke again,

"What difference does it make whether I admit it or not?"

Morrison smiled.

"If you admit it, you’ll quickly go and win her back, continue living in the warmth of her embrace, with a wife and kids, no more hormonal frustrations. If you don’t admit it, then let her go free, let her find her own happiness. Don’t keep running to her place every few days and mess with her second chance at love."

As a longtime friend of Dave’s, Morrison understood his temperament very well.

Dave was too proud, and his relationship with Laurent had started in such a forced way—he had been pushed into marrying her. So, getting him to admit that he loved Laurent wasn’t an easy thing.

Perhaps, after feeling miserable to the extreme, he would finally lower his pride and admit it, trying to salvage what he had.

As an observer, Morrison thought that Dave and Laurent’s marriage was bound to face problems eventually. Even if it wasn’t the fallout from Clark that tore them apart, it would be something else down the road.

Their marriage had started off on a sour note, and over the years, they had never had a candid conversation about it. Dave had never made Laurent feel loved. In their five years of marriage, he had always looked down on her from a position of superiority, too proud to treat her as an equal.

This had caused Laurent, who already felt passive in love, to feel even more insecure. The slightest disturbance, and their seemingly harmonious marriage would start to fall apart. It wasn’t hard to understand why Laurent would explode and file for divorce, especially when the catalyst for this chaos was Dave’s first love, Clark.

After hearing Morrison’s words, Dave drank even more aggressively.

Seeing this, Morrison didn’t say anything else and turned back to his own drink.

He had already said what he needed to say. If Dave didn’t come to his senses, then he deserved for his wife to leave him.

As an emotionally intelligent man, it frustrated Morrison to deal with a friend like Dave, who had such low emotional intelligence. He felt like he had almost become a relationship expert over the years, spending so much time explaining relationship issues to Dave.

Dave was determined to get himself drunk, so he kept drinking one glass after another.

Then his phone rang. He picked it up, squinting through his drunken haze to see that it was a message from Laurent, just two words: "Thank you."

Angered, he threw his phone aside. He had left his social event and driven all the way to deliver the USB drive to her in the middle of the night, and this was all she had to say—just a stiff "thank you."

He took another drink, fuming, and then decided to dial her number while still under the influence.

She answered, and without thinking, he asked her,

"Have you decided to be with Leonardo?"

Morrison, after the shock, wanted to cover his face and walk away. He couldn’t bear to look at Dave after hearing that question. He could already imagine the consequences of what he had just said.

On the other end of the phone, Laurent was about to cry from anger.

By asking her this, what was he implying about all the years of love she had for him?

She had loved him so deeply for so many years, and they had only been divorced for a few days—was she really that quick to move on with another man?

Did he really see her as the kind of fickle woman who would jump from one man to another so easily? Or was he intentionally arrogant, trampling on the feelings she had for him over all these years?

Laurent thought back to when she had first brought up the idea of divorce—it didn’t hurt as much as it did now.

Her slender fingers gripped the edge of her phone tightly. She tried to steady her trembling voice and coldly responded,

"Yes! I’ve decided to be with him!"

In fact, Laurent had just rejected Leonardo. She hadn’t actually thought about being with him, but in this moment, filled with anger, she answered him that way out of spite.

After saying that, she couldn’t resist throwing a jab at him,

"Aren’t you with Clark now?"

His question was clearly full of accusation, but what right did he have to question her? Not after how close he had been with Clark.

Moreover, they were already divorced. She was a single woman, and it was perfectly normal for her to have a new boyfriend and a new place to belong. Why did he think he could speak to her in that accusing tone?

She knew that admitting she was with Leonardo would already make Dave angry, but she couldn’t help but criticize him for being with Clark. Dave immediately defended himself through gritted teeth,

"I’m not with her! Didn’t you see my clarification? I said we’re just friends!"

Laurent almost laughed,

"Who believes that?"

She had seen him accompanying Clark to the hospital late at night, and she had personally experienced how he abandoned her and their daughter for Clark. How could she possibly believe they were just friends?

Her firm belief that he had an affair with Clark made Dave, who was already furious and drunk, lose control completely. Gripping the phone, he spat out,

"Wish you happiness!"

And then, enraged, he hung up the phone.
