Chapter 99: Chapter 99- I’m not alone

For example, Adeline’s ex-husband, Grant, kept calling her after their divorce.

Especially when he was drunk, he would say that he couldn’t forget her. Adeline had scolded him harshly, and after that, whenever he called and said such things, she would just hang up.

Adeline couldn’t ignore his calls, after all, they had a daughter together, and sometimes Adeline worried that he was calling to ask about their daughter.

When Adeline told her these things, Laurent had been quite angry. She never expected that she would end up in the same situation.

Thinking of Adeline, Laurent remembered that since she left Burg Eltz, she hadn’t seen Adeline again. So she decided to give her a call. Adeline picked up, and on the other end, she said,

"I was just thinking of calling you. I’m on my way back from Burg Eltz, visiting the kids. If you have time tomorrow, let’s grab a meal together."

Adeline and Laurent had been high school classmates, so Adeline’s hometown was here. After her divorce, her daughter stayed with Adeline’s parents, and she would visit her on weekends.

Laurent was a bit concerned about Adeline’s safety since it was already late, so she said,

"How come you’re coming back so late? It’s so unsafe."

Adeline sounded a little embarrassed on the other end,

"I’m not alone, I’m with a friend, and he’s driving."

Hearing this, Laurent more or less understood—Adeline had probably found a new partner.

It had been over a year since Adeline’s divorce, and there was nothing wrong with her starting a new relationship. Laurent was genuinely happy for Adeline. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

"Adeline, congratulations."

Adeline laughed on the other end,

"You’re saying that too early. We’ll have dinner tomorrow, I’ll bring him to meet you."

Laurent gladly agreed,

"Okay."

Since Laurent had to go back to the factory to work tomorrow, they decided to meet for dinner in the evening. As for the location, they hadn’t decided yet, but said they would figure it out once they met the next day.

Lilian’s house.

After finishing her call with Laurent, Tiffany glanced at her granddaughter, who was sound asleep in the big bed, and shook her head with some helplessness.

She was well aware of the agreement the little girl had made with her father.

Her son had used a pink Barbie doll set he brought back from abroad as leverage to get their daughter to disrupt Laurent’s dinner with her friend.

As for who this friend was, Tiffany wasn’t sure, but she was certain it was a male friend, or else her son wouldn’t have acted this way.

So, the little girl called Laurent and caused a fuss.

In the end, as her son wished, the little girl had made a scene and fallen asleep.

Just as Tiffany was about to wash up and head to bed, her phone rang again. She looked at the caller ID and saw it was her son. She picked up the call, and without much patience, she said to him,

"Alright, you got your way. She’s back home now!"

Dave was silent for a moment on the other end before asking again,

"Emma?"

"She’s asleep!"

Tiffany couldn’t hold back her anger anymore,

"I have to ask, what are you doing right now? Laurent is a good woman. If you can’t make her happy, I don’t want you doing things like this behind her back to disturb her!"

Tiffany wasn’t one to lose her temper, especially with her children. She had always been gentle by nature, but this time, she couldn’t help but scold her son.

Since their divorce drama began, Tiffany had always spoken up for Laurent. Part of it was because Laurent was a genuinely likable person, and part of it was because Tiffany had once been in Laurent’s position, loving a man who held feelings for another woman.

That kind of pain was something Tiffany understood all too well, and how hopeless it could feel. She sympathized with Laurent, seeing her as the version of herself from the past. Tiffany had never had the courage to take the step of divorce. For the sake of her children, she endured it. Now, she didn’t want Laurent to follow the same path she had.

She hoped that Laurent could say goodbye to the past and regain a new life.

But unfortunately, her son kept entangling himself with her, not giving her the chance to find happiness again.

What was even more infuriating was that he stubbornly refused to admit that he still cared about her.

"As someone who’s been through it, let me give you a piece of advice: If you want to be with Laurent, then you need to completely sever ties with that Clark!"

Tiffany spoke with a heavy tone, because she herself deeply understood this feeling.

There was no woman who wouldn’t be repulsed by the thought of her man still thinking about another woman.

Even if there was nothing substantial between them, not even a romantic relationship, just a bit of concern was unbearable.

After saying this, Tiffany hung up the phone. As for what he should do next, that was for him to figure out.

Faced with his mother’s rare anger and the fact that she hung up on him, Dave got up and walked over to the window of the hotel, staring out at the view, lost in thought.

Morrison had said that the reason she wanted a divorce was because of Clark.

His mother had also said that if he wanted to get back together with her, he had to completely sever ties with Clark.

The words of family, friends, and Leonardo’s appearance all made him reflect on his relationship with Clark.

She only went to have a meal with Leonardo, yet he had become this restless and uneasy. How did she feel about him being so close to Clark, even abandoning her and their daughter in Japan because of him? What kind of anger must she have been feeling inside?

He couldn’t even bring himself to think about it.

Maybe after returning home, he should follow his mother’s advice and completely cut ties with Clark to make amends.
