Chapter 26: Lucien’s Death: Nothing Deserves to Remain (3)
Veyrion Mansion.
Valyra stood at the outer balcony, her gaze wandering to the moon slowly unveiled.
David’s figure appeared from nowhere, taking his wife into his arms.
"Are you worried about Lucien?" he whispered softly.
Valyra nodded, resting her head on his chest.
"I don’t know, David. I’ve had a bad feeling all day." Her voice was strained.
Five days had passed since Lucien left. Even a moment without him felt like an eternity.
"Don’t worry. Don’t you believe in our son? And if something goes wrong, there’s protection I placed on him," David reassured her.
Valyra snuggled closer. Then, without warning –
She spat a mouthful of blood.
David startled. "What happened? Do you have hidden injuries?" Worry creased his face.
Valyra’s expression turned ugly, as if she had lost something precious.
"I secretly engraved a life talisman from our dragon clan on Lucien when he was a child." She paused. "But now the connection is cut."
David’s face went pale. "That doesn’t mean he’s dead. I placed a soul mark on him – it would have alerted me."
Valyra’s eyes met his, full of dread.
"Then trace his location," she whispered. "Please."
David nodded. "I will find him."
Until she heard Lucien was safe, she would not rest.
---
The Haewun Forest had lost its beauty. Smoke lingered in the air as fire burned in places, roasting everything around.
Seraphina stood in her half‑dragon form, like a goddess of flame.
The assassin stood at the other side, chuckling.
Lucien’s dead body bore witness to the battle. She had made sure his body was protected, untouched by the fight.
Her gaze locked onto the assassin, and she moved.
Not fast. Faster. One moment she was standing over Lucien. The next, her spear was through the assassin’s shoulder, pinning him to a burning tree.
Fire engulfed the tree, turning it to ash in an instant.
But it turned out to be a shadow she had pierced.
Her expression remained unchanged. Her tail slanted to the right and smacked the open air.
The assassin was sent flying.
"Such tricks against me."
Her gaze was emotionless, her voice cold as ice.
The assassin chuckled and said, "It seems I have to show a bit of my power."
A dark, male voice answered.
Meanwhile, the assassin was calculating. As an assassin, his major strength wasn’t a frontal attack. He had already dealt with his target.
There was no need to fight.
But who would have thought Seraphina had locked the entire forest?
There was no escape. The only option was to fight Seraphina.
The assassin charged forward. Suddenly, as he got closer to Seraphina, he split into five figures, all attacking her.
Seraphina’s gaze remained unchanged. She thrust her spear forward. Flames rose from it, engulfing the five shadows.
The moment she made that move, behind her and from nowhere, the assassin’s figure appeared, dagger in hand, ready to cleave her life.
But Seraphina’s draconic tail was faster – as if she knew he would appear.
The tail came with immense speed, catching the assassin off guard.
The assassin felt danger and sensed its source.
But it was too late.
He felt an immense force enter his body, ravaging everything as the tail hit him.
The assassin was sent flying into a nearby tree, gritting in pain.
Knowing he was still in battle, he immediately raised his guard, expecting Seraphina’s next attack.
But none came.
Instinctively, the assassin looked up as he felt a large wave of Originat.
"Oh f*ck."
In the sky, Seraphina was flying – but that wasn’t the problem.
Thousands of golden circular runes filled the sky, packed together. They stretched, covering the entire Haewun Forest.
The destructive aura, the immense Originat – that was what made the assassin curse.
"Try to survive this," Seraphina said.
The next moment, flames began to burn around the golden circular runes, as if they had life.
Apocalyptic Destruction.
Seraphina didn’t need to speak its name. She willed it.
Beams of immense, destructive flame energy burst from the golden circular runes, destroying and ravaging everything in their path.
And the assassin bore the brunt of it all.
The residents of Haewun City bore witness to this massive destruction.
At first, they were surprised by the appearance of the golden circular runes, but seeing the destruction it brought, they shivered.
Thousands of such destructive flaming beams were wreaking havoc.
All they could see was a blinding golden light like the sun.
Seraphina wasn’t affected by the energy, watching as the Haewun Forest was destroyed.
Volkoids that had sensed danger had run away for their lives, but those that didn’t were engulfed with it.
This action of hers had caused a Volkoid tide around the neighbouring cities, who had no option but to start defending.
She was not bothered by it.
Slowly the destruction ensued. Everywhere cleared, and the state of Haewun Forest was revealed.
There was no resemblance between it and the former forest. There were numerous potholes everywhere, fire wreaking havoc, volcanoes erupting, oceans and streams evaporated.
The temperature became so hot that it was hard for even a strong cultivator to breathe and survive here.
All life had been eliminated. Nothing could survive her.
COUGH! COUGH!
From the ground, a figure came out, coughing. It was the assassin.
The cloaks had been burned to ashes, all his skin burned. He looked like roasted meat.
It was hard to believe that he survived.
Surprisingly, after a few seconds, the wound began to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye.
It was a young man – or maybe an old figure that was young.
He had a striking appearance, pointed ears, but his eyes were filled with terror.
"Oh, someone from the Devil Race," Seraphina muttered as her figure appeared.
She wanted to know the origin of the assassin so she could bring hell on those affiliated to him.
"Don’t worry, I am going to make you regret ever coming into this world." Seraphina smiled, but it sent chills down the spine of the assassin.
"Is all of this worth it for someone who’s dead?" the assassin roared out in frustration.
Seraphina didn’t say anything; she just let out a sharp giggle.
"Don’t worry, you aren’t the only one. The world is joining you. All will be buried with my husband."
