Only My Weapons Level UP
Chapter 64: Vehicle
Icicle Longbow - Lv 28(188/280) (Uncommon)
Attack Power: 145
Movement Speed Debuff: 28%
Charges: 40/40
Durability: 56/56
(Critical Charge: when dealing critical damage on the target, you recover one charge automatically.)
(Cold of War: When hitting the same opponent twice with the arrows of this bow, you put them under the ’frostbite’ status effect and make them lose five points of health per second for ten seconds.)
(Sniper: doubles the range of the arrows fired by this bow.)
(Triple Shot: consumes three charges to fire three arrows at the same time at the target, causing the usual damage plus twenty percent per arrow.)
(Frost Charge: you can fire an arrow that will have to double the power, and it will freeze the target for a second. Cooldown: 10 seconds.)
"The enemies are giving fifteen points of experience per kill; this is pretty good; the bow should be mastered soon enough," Terry thought while checking his gear. "Still, the power armor didn’t get any experience... I guess I need to cause direct damage with it."
It will be hard to do that normally... the fire drakes were a lot tougher than he had expected. Terry cursed since he forgot to buy a skill book that would help him use the mana stored in the armor. In any case, ten minutes later, they reached the city, and it felt like the people didn’t have the chance to escape... the gates had been burned down, and the asphalt around it became like ponds of lava. There was no noise inside aside from some screams of fire drakes.
"They are still around; we will have to wipe them out," Vandss declared.
Terry shrugged, and then they jumped the pond of magma that closed the exit of the city. As Terry and Vanessa entered the city, their hearts sank at the sight that awaited them. The once vibrant and bustling metropolis now lay in ruins, engulfed in an inferno of devastation. Flames licked hungrily at every structure, reducing them to charred remnants of their former glory.
The fire drakes, their monstrous forms silhouetted against the backdrop of destruction, seemed to revel in the chaos they had wrought. With reckless pleasure, they unleashed torrents of scorching flames upon the buildings as if driven by an insatiable desire to see the world burn.
The air was thick with smoke and the acrid scent of destruction, making it difficult for Terry and Vanessa to breathe. They stood amidst the ruins, their eyes scanning the desolate landscape, searching for any signs of life or reason behind the senseless destruction.
Terry quickly found some bodies completely destroyed by the flames, still emitting a lot of smoke... he showed some cold eyes after lowering his gaze. Before long, he recovered and then jumped on the top of a pile of rubble and then unleashed a Frost Charge at one of the enemies. The arrow pierced a dragon one hundred fifty meters away and killed it immediately.
The other monsters in the vicinity noticed that and charged at Terry. He tried to hit them with the ice arrows, but they easily dodged from a distance. When they were fifty meters away, several lightning bolts hit and paralyzed them before Terry put some arrows in their heads.
Still, one of them blocked the attacks with a flamethrower and then approached Terry, engulfing him in flames. He only disappeared for a second before grabbing the beast by the neck and throwing it against the ground. While the beast screamed, Terry grabbed its wings and then put his legs on the monster’s back and used that as leverage... The beast screamed in agony until Terry pulled the wings, and blood began to gush like rain.
The armor leveled up again, but Terry’s body still was emitting a lot of steam... his previous magic defense didn’t nullify the power of the fire breath. It was only natural...
"Let’s go; our best chances are to keep ambushing them, and the screams probably will bring a lot of them here," Vanessa said. "We don’t want to give them the chance to control the flow of the battle when they already have some advantages."
Terry nodded. His head had cooled down a bit... Terry sighed as well. That kind of destruction really messed with his head; it made him recall a bunch of bad things that he had buried in his mind.
In any case, Terry and Vanessa only found three more groups of enemies there, and they easily disposed of them after ambushing them. Terry’s Frost Cannon was really good at sniping those things and killing them. The only downside was the cold downtime.
It didn’t take long for the group to realize that the place had been attacked on the day before... the monsters could have advanced more, but they didn’t for some reason. The number of corpses, fortunately, wasn’t high, so it was a clear sign that people escaped using other means, but it was hard to imagine that the drakes wouldn’t chase them. Terry and Vanessa didn’t have time to look for survivors outside either.
In the end, Terry and Vanessa only found a single bike that had fuel that they could use... it would be a pain to use it since they had their gear, and it was fairly heavy. Terry’s armor was particularly a burden. Fortunately or perhaps unfortunately, they could only exit the city with a vehicle like that.
"Do you know how to drive?" Vanessa asked. "I am not that good, and I never drove with someone on the back."
"I can run; it is better than risking breaking my pretty face on the asphalt," Terry said. "It is better to mitigate risk."
"You can do that by saving energy as well," Vanessa said. "I will try to drive safely, so hop on."
"I feel like people in the past would say that trusting a woman with a wheel would be a terrible mistake," Terry shrugged.
"Your imagination sure is funny," Vanessa said.
