Chapter 17: Chapter 17: The Male Party Had a Vasectomy

Chloe Reed trashed the living room in a near-frenzy.

She sat amidst the wreckage, her gaze dull and empty.

She suddenly got up, stumbled to the liquor cabinet, took out all the bottles, and started drinking from each one.

The alcohol numbed her nerves, and she drank until she was dead drunk.

She clung to the desperate hope that this was all just a dream.

When she woke up, everything would go back to the way it was before.

Back to when they were in love.

Back to when he only had eyes for her.

She didn’t know how long she had slept before the loud ringing of her phone jolted her awake.

"Hello?"

"Mrs. Grant, your and Mr. Grant’s medical reports are ready. When would you be available to come and pick them up? Or, if you provide an address, we can have them delivered to you."

It was a call from the medical center.

Chloe Reed’s head was throbbing. "Just mail them," she said.

After hanging up, she sat up and looked at the mess all over the floor, her face showing little emotion.

She called a cleaning service to deal with the mess, then went upstairs to shower.

’It wasn’t a dream.’

’It was all real.’

’She had to face reality.’

The package arrived quickly.

She stood in the entryway and tore it open. Her own medical report was perfect; there were no issues at all.

She and Walker Grant had been married for four years. For the first two, she had wanted it to be just the two of them, so they had both used contraception.

But then, Noah Grant was born.

Walker Grant was constantly being called away by Sunny Reed, and she began to think, ’Maybe if I have a baby, his attention will return to our little family?’

But after two years of trying—even secretly drinking herbal remedies—she still hadn’t gotten pregnant.

This time, they had both undergone a comprehensive medical examination to find out what the problem was.

’If there was a medical problem,’ she had reasoned, ’we could just do IVF.’

They had the examination a month before their anniversary, and the results were only just now ready.

’How ironic,’ she thought.

But when she opened Walker Grant’s report and saw its contents, the color drained from her face.

"Male patient... has undergone a vasectomy?"

She read the sentence out loud, word by deliberate word, hardly able to believe her eyes.

Her hands trembled, her entire body shaking!

She read it again and again, even rubbing her eyes, but it was there in black and white, perfectly clear.

"Ha... haha..."

Chloe Reed started to laugh, but as she laughed, tears began to fall.

Ironic!

It was utterly ironic!

To think she had been foolish enough to believe a child could tie his heart to her.

The funny thing was, he had never even planned on having a child with her!

Eight years. Eight long years!

She even began to wonder if they had ever truly been in love.

Was it all just her own wishful thinking from the very start?

As her world crumbled around her, she collapsed to the floor, her eyes fixed on that single line, motionless for a long time.

After a long while, she took out her phone and dialed Iris Yates’s number.

"Hello, Chloe."

Chloe Reed’s voice was hoarse. "Find out where Walker Grant is."

Iris Yates heard the wrongness in her voice and asked with sudden seriousness, "What happened?"

Chloe Reed closed her eyes. "Tell me when you find out."

She hung up, her hand gripping the phone tightly.

A moment later, a text came through: Walker Grant was at Nathaniel Monroe’s birthday party.

Chloe Reed changed her clothes, put on makeup, and headed straight for the club.

Inside the club, the air was filled with laughter and cheerful voices. Balloons and streamers drifted about as everyone teased Nathaniel Monroe.

Chloe Reed strode into the private room on her high heels.
