Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 21: Disagree with the Divorce
Chloe Reed gripped the steering wheel tightly, her expression grim.
’He’d lied to her again!’
She pulled out her phone and called him, but there was no answer.
She slammed her fists on the steering wheel in a rage, feeling like she was about to fall apart.
Just then, her phone rang. She glanced at the screen, then answered with a frown, "Hello?"
"Sister-in-law, where are you? You have to help Walker!" Nathaniel Monroe’s urgent voice came through the phone.
Chloe Reed’s grip tightened on the steering wheel. "Is he dying?"
Nathaniel was at a loss for words for a moment before replying, "No, but he was punished. He’s badly injured and unconscious in the hospital. He keeps calling your name. Sister-in-law, you have to come quickly."
Chloe Reed let out a cold laugh. "Then call me back when he’s dead."
With that, she hung up.
And yet, her hand tightened around her phone.
’Why was he punished?’
’And who could possibly punish him?’
His parents were with Doctors Without Borders and were away all year. Madam Grant was getting on in years, and with Julian Grant gone, Walker was the one who had the final say in the Grant family.
Then, her heart sank.
’Of all the times to get injured...’
’She’d finally gotten her chance to file for divorce after so much waiting.’
She drove home. But just as she pulled up, her phone rang again. She took it out and saw the call was from the Grant Family Estate.
"Hello?"
She answered, her tone devoid of respect.
Madam Grant’s aged voice came through the line. "Walker is in the hospital. You’re his wife. Go take care of him."
Chloe Reed just sneered. "There are plenty of women who want to take care of him. I doubt I’d even make the front of the line."
"You wretched girl!" Madam Grant cursed, furious. "You are his wife, the Second Young Mistress of the Grant family! Show some backbone! Who would dare get close to Walker with you around? I was against your marriage from the start, but you two insisted on being together. And now you’re making this scene? You want a divorce? Aren’t you just making a fool of yourself?"
Chloe Reed lowered her gaze, a self-deprecating smile touching her lips.
Back then, they had fought so hard to get married.
When Madam Grant refused, Walker Grant had knelt at the entrance of the villa, and she had knelt beside him until Madam Grant finally gave in.
After they were married, Madam Grant was still displeased with her new granddaughter-in-law, so Chloe did her best to be endearing and obedient, while Walker coaxed his grandmother from the sidelines.
In the end, Madam Grant at least stopped making things difficult for her, though her attitude remained cold and distant.
Back then, they had truly been fighting for a future together.
But now, everything was a mess.
"I do want a divorce," Chloe Reed said bluntly. "You’ve never liked me anyway, so why don’t you just convince your grandson to agree? It’ll save me the trouble of making sure the Grant family never knows a moment’s peace."
"You disgraceful girl!" Madam Grant’s voice grew even sharper. "Is ’divorce’ a word you can just throw around? You married Walker, and you will spend the rest of your life with him. I’m warning you, I will absolutely not permit this divorce. There is no precedent for divorce in the Grant family!"
With that, the old madam angrily hung up.
Chloe Reed found it laughable.
’What century are we in?’
’As if they could actually stop a divorce.’
’She was getting this divorce, and that was final.’
She got out of the car and tossed the keys to a bodyguard, who gave her a look that was hard to decipher.
’Who would have thought the esteemed Young Mistress of the Grant family would resort to climbing a wall to escape, like a common criminal? And now they were the ones getting punished by Mr. Grant for it...’
Chloe Reed paid them no mind and entered the villa. She was exhausted and just wanted to take a shower and go to bed.
The bedroom was pitch-black. She showered, pulled back the covers, and lay down. The next second, her eyes flew open.
Just then, an arm draped over her body, burning so hot it felt like it could melt her skin!
