Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 316: I’m So Glad You Understand
Judith Pierce sighed and took her hand, speaking with profound relief.
Chloe Reed pulled her hand away, her tone indifferent. "Mrs. Grant, is there anything else?"
Judith Pierce was unaccustomed to her coldness, but she only frowned slightly and said, "I’ll be leaving now. You should get back to your grandmother."
Chloe Reed turned and walked away without another word.
Watching her retreating figure, a flicker of displeasure crossed Judith Pierce’s eyes.
However, the thought that Chloe would soon be leaving the Grant family made her feel as if a great weight had been lifted.
...
Walker Grant kept texting her from different numbers, like some kind of scammer, and Chloe Reed was growing extremely impatient.
But then she remembered what Judith Pierce had said. Maybe she should play along with Walker Grant for a while.
After all, if she wanted Walker Grant and Sunny Reed to get together, she had to make him lower his guard.
As another text message arrived, she lowered her gaze, her long lashes hiding the emotion in her eyes.
—[Chloe, my wound hurts. Come see me?]
She picked up her phone, placed it face down on the desk, and went back to her work.
"..."
「At another hospital.」
Walker Grant’s injury was healing quickly; the scab on his shoulder was almost ready to fall off. Staring at his still unanswered messages, his sharp brows furrowed.
KNOCK KNOCK!
Just then, Dylan Finch knocked on the hospital room door and walked in.
Walker Grant looked up at him. "What is it?"
Dylan Finch’s expression was serious as he handed over a file. "Mr. Grant, I’ve dug up some information on the clients of that overseas mercenary group. I found the transaction records for those two men. The person who issued the mission was anonymous, but I traced the source of the message to Norton Biotechnology Inc. And it turns out Miles Hawthorne has been working at that company during his years abroad."
As Walker Grant flipped through the file, a chill settled over his strikingly handsome features.
Dylan Finch continued, "Also, many of Doctor William’s students have worked at this company, and his wife is its vice president."
On the surface, Miles Hawthorne and Doctor William were colleagues.
But for Doctor William to have a change of heart, their relationship must have been more than just colleagues.
"Who founded this company? Who were the initial investors?" Walker Grant asked in a low voice.
Dylan Finch shook his head. "The current president is just a figurehead. The identity of the real boss behind the scenes is a mystery."
Walker Grant set the file aside, his gaze growing heavy.
’Things are getting more and more complicated.’
’It involves overseas connections.’
’The attack on Chloe Reed.’
’What’s so special about her?’
’Could it be her background?’
"Arrange for a paternity test for Chloe and her parents," Walker Grant said gravely. "Be discreet."
"Yes, sir."
Dylan Finch nodded and turned to leave.
The moment he left, Walker Grant’s phone rang. It was Judith Pierce.
"Hello, Mom."
"Walker, the anniversary of your older brother’s death is in a week," Judith Pierce said, her tone gentle. "Come home after you visit the cemetery."
"Okay, I will," Walker Grant replied.
Judith Pierce’s voice turned melancholic. "In the blink of an eye, your older brother has been gone for four years. Noah is over three now, and he doesn’t even know what his own father looks like."
"Then bring him to the cemetery this time," Walker Grant said.
"Let’s wait a little longer," Judith Pierce said. "When he’s old enough to remember, we can tell him about Julian."
"Fine. It’s up to you."
Walker Grant had no strong opinions on the matter.
