Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 332: As Long as You’re Alive
Judith Pierce instinctively looked away. She hugged Noah and said, "Walker, since you’re awake, you should get some rest. I’m taking Noah home to rest..."
"Dylan Finch."
Walker Grant, however, called out hoarsely to Dylan Finch at his side.
Dylan Finch stepped forward and picked up Noah Grant, saying gently, "Noah, how about I take you to see your mom?"
Having been out for several hours, Noah Grant really did miss his mom, so he nodded.
Dylan Finch carried Noah Grant away.
Judith Pierce was instantly left without her shield, thrown into a state of panic.
Nathaniel Monroe sensed the tension in the air. Just as he was about to say something, Walker Grant spoke. "You should head back for now."
"Alright."
Nathaniel Monroe nodded. He reached the door, then seemed to remember something. "Oh, right," he said. "Your wife called this morning."
Walker Grant’s expression didn’t flicker. "Mm."
Nathaniel Monroe shot him a surprised glance. ’They’ve been on bad terms this whole time, and I can see how deep Walker’s feelings for his wife are. He doesn’t want a divorce at all and hopes every day that she’ll be the one to reach out to him.’
’So why is he acting so cold today?’
Nathaniel Monroe didn’t press the issue. He pushed open the door to the room and walked out.
...
The stark white hospital lights cast a pallor over them, making both of their complexions look poor.
Judith Pierce gritted her teeth. "Walker, I was wrong..."
"Why did you do it?"
Walker Grant watched her, his long, narrow, jet-black eyes cold.
Judith Pierce said, "Because I don’t want you with Chloe Reed anymore. There’s too much danger around her. If you stay by her side, you’ll only get dragged down with her. If you two were still in love, perhaps I wouldn’t have done this. But she doesn’t love you anymore. She’s desperate to divorce you..."
’She doesn’t love you anymore...’
The words stabbed into his heart like a knife.
The color drained from Walker Grant’s face, but his expression remained impassive.
"Walker, I did it for your own good! I just can’t bear to see anything happen to you. Your older brother is already gone... if you get hurt too, what am I supposed to do?" Judith Pierce began to cry as she spoke.
Walker Grant closed his eyes. "Mom, you’ve betrayed my trust. I thought you were different from Grandmother."
"I..." Judith Pierce tried to say something more.
But Walker Grant cut in coldly, "Didn’t you want to go find my father? Then go. Go on being a Doctor Without Borders. And don’t come back unless there’s an emergency."
Judith Pierce stared at him in disbelief. "You’re sending me away?"
Walker Grant’s voice was raspy. "Isn’t this what you want? At least I’m not sending you to live with Grandmother."
Even sitting in the chair, Judith Pierce swayed. Her face grew paler, but she finally managed a bitter smile.
"Chloe Reed said you agreed to it. But it’s clear now that she’s still very important to you."
She stood up. "Fine, just forget it... I won’t interfere in your affairs anymore. Walker Grant, I have no other demand of you. Just stay alive."
"I will,"
Walker Grant said flatly.
"Good."
Judith Pierce didn’t object to his arrangement. She turned and slowly left the room.
Silence descended upon the room. Threads of pain radiated from his left arm, and Walker Grant’s dark eyes grew vacant.
Everything that happened last night felt like a dream, but the wound on his left arm was a stark reminder that it was real.
Walker Grant closed his eyes, reached for the phone on the bedside table, and dialed Chloe Reed’s number.
