Chapter 383: Chapter 383: Watch Your Back

Silhouettes blurred in the chaos. Chloe Reed switched on the rear wipers and got a clear look at the scene outside.

Five or six of their opponents were down.

Walker Grant, however, was kneeling in a pool of blood, propping himself up with an iron pipe.

Chloe Reed’s pupils constricted. She scrambled out of the car and ran to him.

She dropped to her knees before him, trying to lift him.

"Walker Grant, how are you? Walker Grant?"

Rain cascaded down on them. He was soaked through, not just with rain, but with blood.

Chloe held his arm. "Get up. We’re going to the hospital..."

Walker Grant lifted his head, raindrops clinging to his dark lashes. His sharp eyes were stained a deep crimson, and a wild, dangerous aura still radiated from him, the recent fight having stirred his killing intent.

But at this moment, he stared at her and asked, "Worried about me?"

Chloe was frantic. "This isn’t the time for that. We need to get to the hospital."

"Watch your back!"

Just then, one of the fallen bodyguards suddenly yelled out in a hoarse voice.

Before Chloe could react, she was yanked back, and in an instant, they had switched places!

THWACK!

It was the sound of a sharp dagger piercing flesh!

Chloe finally saw clearly. One of the men on the ground had gotten back up, intending to land a fatal blow on her!

But the dagger didn’t pierce her body; instead, it plunged into Walker Grant’s shoulder!

"Walker Grant..."

The rain drizzled down, making it hard for her to keep her eyes open. She saw him knit his brows, spin around, and bring the pipe down hard on the man’s head. The attacker collapsed, this time for good.

The dagger was still embedded in his shoulder, and he was covered in blood and rain.

Chloe’s eyes burned with tears. She quickly steadied him. "We... we have to get to the hospital..."

Her voice trembled and was choked with sobs.

CLANG...

The iron pipe dropped to the ground, making a dull sound and sending up a splash of water.

Chloe struggled to help him up and get him into her car.

She tried to force herself to calm down, but her hands wouldn’t stop shaking. She immediately pinched her thigh, hard.

There was still a car blocking her path. She stomped on the gas and rammed right into it!

The car sped down the highway, the air inside thick with the smell of blood. The man in the back seat had gone silent.

"Walker Grant, can you hear me? Walker Grant?" Chloe gripped the steering wheel tightly, talking to him nonstop.

"Mmm..."

His voice came, low, faint, and muffled.

"Don’t fall asleep. We’re almost at the hospital. We’re going to be okay..." Chloe said, trying to convince him as much as herself.

"Mmm..."

With his eyes closed, Walker Grant responded weakly.

Chloe drove as fast as she could, but once they left that stretch of road, traffic began to thicken.

She was in a daze, as if she had crossed over from another world.

Here, the traffic was bustling and normal, the streets filled with pedestrians.

But just moments ago, it had felt like a no-man’s-land where no one passed by—a place of only blood and violence, where her own life had seemed so cheap.

When they finally reached the hospital, Chloe called for doctors, and Walker Grant was rushed into the emergency room. She stood outside the doors of the trauma bay, soaking wet, her hands still trembling uncontrollably.

Just then, her cell phone rang. With a trembling hand, she pulled it out. It was a call from Daniel Hayes.
