Chapter 385: Chapter 385: He Was Injured Time and Again, and It Was Always Because of Her

Chloe Reed said, "I’m a little tied up right now, so I can’t go see her. Please take good care of her for me."

Preston Vance replied, "She’s fine, just got a scare. A few days of rest at home and she’ll be all right."

After a pause, he added, "Besides, it’s not really appropriate for me to be the one taking care of her."

Chloe Reed tapped her forehead. "Sorry, I wasn’t thinking straight..."

Preston Vance asked with concern, "Is something wrong?"

"Yeah, I’m not feeling too well. I’m going to rest now."

Chloe Reed was in no mood for small talk, so she gave a couple of brief replies and hung up.

Daniel Hayes asked worriedly, "Miss Reed, why don’t you go home and rest?"

Chloe Reed shook her head. "No. I’ll wait until I’m sure he’s okay."

Her mind was a whirlwind of emotions as she stared at the door to the operating room.

Fortunately, he was out in less than two hours. He had no fatal injuries, his wounds were all stitched up, and he would make a full recovery after a period of rest.

In the hospital room, the doctor and nurses left one by one. Chloe Reed sat in a chair, watching his pale, unconscious face.

Lately, it seemed like he was always getting hurt.

And every single time... it was because of her.

She wanted to block it all out, but it was the truth. The bloody image of him shielding her, again and again, replayed endlessly in her mind.

Chloe Reed was so distraught she could barely think.

The room was so quiet she could only hear the sound of her own breathing. She stared blankly ahead, not even noticing when Walker Grant opened his eyes.

"Chloe."

The sound of a terribly hoarse voice snapped her out of her daze. He was awake.

She rushed to his side. "How are you feeling?"

Walker Grant said, "It hurts. Everything hurts."

Chloe Reed frowned slightly, then stood up. "I’ll go find the doctor and ask if they can give you some painkillers."

But a hand caught her wrist.

His palm lacked its usual fiery heat, and his grip was so weak she could have easily pulled away.

But this time, she didn’t.

"Are you hurt?"

She heard him ask.

Chloe Reed looked at him. "I’m fine. I stayed in the car the whole time. You took all those guys down."

"So, was I impressive?"

Walker Grant gazed at her with his jet-black eyes, his expression exceptionally gentle.

A sting prickled Chloe Reed’s nose, but she forced her emotions down and asked, "Walker Grant, we’re getting a divorce. You don’t have to do this..."

Her voice trembled as she spoke, laced with fear and confusion.

An uncertainty about her own future.

Walker Grant slowly tightened his grip. "We’re not divorced yet, are we? As long as you’re my wife, I’m responsible for you. I won’t let anything happen to you."

Tears streamed down Chloe Reed’s face. She bit her lip, trying to rein in her emotions, but it was no use.

Fear.

She was so terribly afraid.

She didn’t know who she had angered; all she felt was the terror of her life being threatened. She sank back into her chair, covering her face with her hands.

"I’m sorry."

Watching her look so lost and afraid, Walker Grant said in a raspy voice, "I was a little late. You still got scared, didn’t you?"

Chloe Reed looked up at him, her eyes full of tears. "Who on earth wants to kill me?"

A sharp pang shot through Walker Grant’s heart. He couldn’t bear seeing her this upset.

’Especially after finding out what a bastard I’d been.’

"Let’s make a deal."

He gazed at her and said softly.
