Chapter 412: Chapter 412: Bashfulness

Chloe Reed glanced at the time and asked, "It’s seven P.M. What are you so busy with?"

Dylan Finch replied, "Busy with my girlfriend."

Chloe Reed was speechless.

Fair enough.

She had no reason to make him stay.

Being a special assistant was exhausting. It was a small miracle he even had time to date.

Dylan Finch gave a slight smile, then turned and left.

Chloe Reed glanced at the still-unconscious Walker Grant, her expression turning impassive. She then went back to playing her game.

KNOCK KNOCK!

A moment later, a knock came from the door.

Chloe Reed looked up to see Annie York walk in, carrying a fruit basket.

"Miss Reed."

Chloe Reed said, "You could have just come. You didn’t have to bring fruit."

Annie York gave a shy smile. "I couldn’t possibly come empty-handed. You’re supposed to bring something when you visit a patient. It helps them recover faster."

Her gaze drifted to Walker Grant’s face on the bed. A flash of stunned admiration lit up her eyes, but she quickly composed herself.

"Miss Reed, can we talk outside?"

Chloe Reed shook her head. "That’s not necessary. We can talk here."

Annie York hesitated. "But won’t we disturb his rest?"

"We won’t." Chloe Reed shook her head. "He’s unconscious right now. If our chatting manages to wake him up, that would mean he’s out of danger."

Hearing this, Annie York blinked and managed a stiff smile.

Chloe Reed pulled her over to the sofa. "What exactly happened the other day? Something came up, so I couldn’t make it."

At the question, Annie York’s brows knitted together, a clear flicker of fear crossing her eyes.

"I was looking for a job, so I sent out my resume. But a lot of places rejected me because I haven’t graduated. Then one day, a company suddenly scheduled an interview with me. I was so happy, I went right over. But the interview location was in a block of unfinished, abandoned buildings. Shortly after I went inside, the main gate was locked."

Annie York was still terrified just recalling it, her hands subconsciously clenching into fists. "I couldn’t find a way out, and I was afraid there were bad people around. That’s when I called you."

Chloe Reed frowned as she listened. "So they just locked you inside? No one else showed up after that?"

"Yeah." Annie York nodded. "I was confused about that afterward, too. Could it have just been a prank? But why would they prank me?"

Chloe Reed was lost in thought.

’So, they were after me all along.’

’After all, I was ambushed right after Daniel Hayes left.’

Her gaze fell to Walker Grant’s face, still unconscious on the bed. If he hadn’t shown up when he did, she might already be dead.

Annie York glanced at Walker Grant as well and asked, "Miss Reed, who is he?"

Chloe Reed pursed her lips, silent for a moment before replying, "A friend."

Annie York’s eyes brightened, and a shy expression appeared on her face. "Then, is he...?"

"Hm?"

Chloe Reed gave her a confused look, not understanding why she was hesitating.

"It’s nothing."

Annie York quickly composed herself and changed the subject. "Miss Reed, what do you think this is all about?"

Chloe Reed shook her head. "I’m not sure either. Maybe it really was just a prank. The important thing is that you’re okay. From now on, if an interview location seems suspicious, just don’t go."

"Okay, I get it. I’ll definitely be more careful." Having been through it once, Annie York was already terrified.

She then asked, "Miss Reed, weren’t you planning on opening a studio? I’ve thought it over, and I’d like to come work for you. I was wondering... is there still a spot for me?"
