Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Sister-in-law Is Not That Kind of Person

Walker Grant sat in his car and called Nathaniel Monroe.

"Hey, Walker, what’s up?" Nathaniel Monroe answered. It was noisy on his end.

Walker Grant asked coldly, "Where are you?"

Sensing the gravity in his tone, Nathaniel Monroe told him his location.

Walker Grant said, "Get to the Grant Family Estate now. And bring your gear."

With that, he hung up.

He turned his head just in time to see a pale-faced Chloe Reed walking out of the estate.

She walked slowly, swaying so much it seemed a gust of wind could knock her over.

He gripped the steering wheel tightly. Thinking about everything that had happened tonight, he suddenly slammed his fist on it.

’She’s lost her mind!’

’To put herself through this!’

He stared at her, his eyes dark. After a long moment, he took out his phone and made another call. "Have some taxis circle the area near her."

Chloe Reed walked clear of the Grant Family Estate grounds. She stood by the road to hail a cab, and one quickly pulled over for her. She got in and left.

Walker Grant saw it all.

Nathaniel Monroe arrived soon after, yanking open the car door and sliding in, out of breath. "Walker, what’s up? Why the big rush?"

Walker Grant’s handsome face was icy, his dark eyes devoid of warmth. "Hack the Grant family’s surveillance system. I want to see all of today’s footage."

"Huh?" Nathaniel Monroe was stunned.

’Hack his own family’s security system?’

’What kind of stunt is this?’

Walker Grant shot him a chilling glare. "Did you not hear me?"

"No... I’m just... stunned." Nathaniel Monroe snapped out of it. He started asking questions as he opened his laptop and got to work. "Walker, at least tell me what’s going on."

But Walker Grant didn’t say a word, just watched his hands move.

’Alright, then.’

Nathaniel Monroe gave up and simply buried himself in his work. He was the one who’d built the firewall for the Grant Family Estate’s security system, so he knew its weaknesses. It was easy for him to slip in undetected.

The video footage began to download, the progress bar ticking forward.

Nathaniel Monroe glanced at the Grant Family Estate, then slapped his forehead. "Hey, I just remembered, isn’t today Noah’s third birthday party? What’s going on? Why is it so dead around here?"

With his eyes closed, Walker Grant said in a flat tone, "You’ll find out what happened soon enough."

Nathaniel Monroe glanced from his computer to Walker Grant’s cold profile. He could smell some major gossip brewing.

He stared at the computer, rubbing his hands together in anticipation. He was dying to see what had happened!

However, once the download was complete, he discovered that all the footage from after Chloe Reed went upstairs was missing.

Walker Grant asked coldly, "What’s going on?"

Nathaniel Monroe said, "The cameras were corrupted. The rest of the footage is lost."

Walker Grant’s expression was thunderous.

He rubbed his temples, then suddenly grabbed his phone and made a call. "Get me a list of the children who were playing with Noah Grant."

Having seen the footage, Nathaniel Monroe was even more confused. "Walker, what in the world happened?"

Walker Grant glanced at him. "Do you believe Chloe Reed would hurt a child?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Absolutely not." Nathaniel Monroe shook his head without a second thought. "Chloe is so carefree. She loves little animals and kids. How could she possibly hurt a child?"

His eyes darted, and he asked cautiously, "Noah was hurt? And someone’s saying Chloe did it?"

Walker Grant closed his eyes. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice was strained. "She confessed."

"Holy shit!"
