Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 61: Threatening Warning
Chloe Reed’s lips were pressed tightly together.
Judith Pierce was very good to her, but she was also Walker Grant’s mother.
They were getting a divorce, so Judith would definitely put her own son first.
A woman’s intuition was usually sharp, and she would never allow her son to get entangled with Sunny Reed.
The older brother dies, only for the younger one to step in?
How utterly disgraceful!
Chloe Reed knew what she was thinking, and it made her miserable. Why did she have to be the one used to hold him back?
Just as Chloe was about to say something, Judith Pierce took her hand again, her gaze softening.
"Chloe, please, just help me with this. As soon as he finds someone suitable, I’ll have Walker go with you to finalize the divorce. I’ll agree to any conditions you have."
Chloe couldn’t put a name to the feeling churning inside her. She struggled to keep her composure and asked, "And what if he doesn’t want to?"
Judith Pierce was taken aback for a moment. "As long as you show him you don’t love him anymore, his heart won’t be set on you. He’ll start to notice other girls."
"You’re not him. You don’t know what he’s thinking." Chloe pulled her hand away again. "This isn’t the first time I’ve brought up divorce. We were finally on the verge of succeeding this time, but you called us back here and are now asking me to agree to such an outrageous condition..."
"You can’t do this to me."
Chloe didn’t want to continue this conversation. She stood up to leave.
"Chloe, must I be even more blunt? What good will it do you to fall out with the Grant family, stubborn as you are?" Judith Pierce’s sighing voice followed her. "What happened last night has already made the rounds in our social circle. If news of your divorce gets out now, everyone will be convinced that you were the one who harmed Noah."
She looked at her, her gaze calm and still gentle, but her words sent a chill down Chloe’s spine. "It won’t be easy for you to make a life for yourself in Breyburn. I know you used to be a voice actor. Didn’t you have an audition recently? But the role was snatched away, wasn’t it?"
She stood up, walked over to Chloe, and took her hand again. "Chloe, agree to my request, and something like losing a role will never happen again. I’ll also clear your name of these baseless rumors and make sure everyone knows you’re innocent. How does that sound?"
Chloe stared at her in disbelief.
Though it was phrased as a question, she heard the unmistakable tone of a warning!
If she didn’t agree, she would be unable to make it in Breyburn. She would become a social pariah!
The Grant family had more than enough ways to deal with her.
Chloe felt a chill creep through her entire body, and her fingertips trembled.
"Chloe, I’m doing this for both of your sakes. You dislike Sunny Reed, and so do I. She was responsible for the death of my older son, and I will absolutely not allow her to bring ruin to my younger one. So, will you help me?" Judith Pierce took another step forward, her voice still gentle.
Chloe felt as if a sharp dagger was pressed against her throat. If she dared to shake her head, she would be met with a bloody, gruesome end.
She gave a wan smile. "Do I have any other choice?"
Judith Pierce smiled. "Good girl. I knew you’d be reasonable. Don’t worry, it won’t be for long. The moment Walker shows the slightest interest in someone, I’ll arrange for the two of you to finalize the divorce. In the meantime, you’re free to do as you please."
Her hand was so warm, yet Chloe felt a bone-deep chill.
She struggled to compose herself. "Fine. Please make it as soon as possible."
With that said, she turned and quickly walked out of the room.
She fled the Grant Family Estate without a moment’s hesitation. The place felt like a cage that devoured people, and it terrified her.
