Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 65: It’s Chloe Reed’s Fault
Autumn Linton tapped on the tablet, playing a video. On it, all the children said they never saw Chloe Reed kick him—that Noah Grant had missed his footing and fallen.
Noah Grant sat in Walker Grant’s arms. His cherubic face, usually so perfect, was tinged with fear. He instinctively grabbed Walker Grant’s clothes, his big eyes darting around the room before he spoke. "I don’t know..."
Walker Grant’s handsome brows knitted together. "You really don’t know?"
Tears rolled down Noah Grant’s cheeks. "I... I don’t know..."
Sunny Reed stepped forward. "Walker, he’s just a child. He must be terrified after falling from such a height. Don’t push him like this."
With that, she lifted Noah Grant from Walker’s arms. Glancing at the tablet, she said, "Since there’s proof my sister didn’t do it, then of course she didn’t. I was too frantic last night and jumped to the wrong conclusion. I owe her an apology."
She bowed to Chloe Reed. "Sister, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have blamed you."
"Uncle..."
Noah Grant tried to squirm out of Sunny Reed’s arms, reaching his hands out toward Walker Grant.
But Sunny Reed said, "Noah, be a good boy. Don’t bother your uncle. We need to see less of him from now on, you know?"
Noah Grant’s tears fell even faster. "WAAAH... No! Uncle! I want my uncle!"
Sunny Reed feigned a light smack. "Why are you being so disobedient? It’s because of you that your uncle and aunt are getting a divorce! We can’t bother them anymore. From now on, Mommy will be with you."
Noah Grant cried even harder.
Autumn Linton’s heart ached hearing this. She came forward and said, "Sunny, don’t hit the child. He’s still so weak. Come here, come to Grandma."
She took Noah Grant into her arms, cooing softly to him.
But Noah Grant kept looking toward Walker Grant, crying out for his uncle over and over.
Walker Grant’s handsome brows furrowed, and his expression soured. It twisted his heart to see Noah Grant crying like this.
But he didn’t look at Noah for the moment. Instead, his gaze fell on Charles Reed.
"Dad, is there nothing you want to say?"
Charles Reed finally understood.
’Walker went to all this trouble, gathering everyone here, just to clear Chloe Reed’s name. One by one, they’ve all apologized to her, and now he’s targeting me.’
He had, in fact, misunderstood Chloe Reed last night. His expression softened slightly as he looked at her. "Chloe, Daddy was wrong to blame you last night. But you’re not blameless either. If you didn’t do it, why did you confess? And make such an ugly scene? Don’t you know you were embarrassing both our families?"
He had softened his tone and admitted he was wrong, only to turn around and point the finger of blame right back at her.
In the end, it was still Chloe Reed’s fault.
Chloe Reed hadn’t uttered a single word since she entered the room. Upon hearing this, she finally looked up at Charles Reed, her voice laced with mockery. "But I did say it wasn’t me at the start. Did you believe me?"
Charles Reed’s expression stiffened, then sank. "What? Are you holding a grudge against me? If you weren’t constantly at odds with Sunny, why would I have assumed it was you?"
"Dad."
Walker Grant spoke, his deep, magnetic voice laced with a chill that seemed to lower the temperature in the room.
"Let’s stick to the matter at hand. Don’t bring up the past."
Charles Reed glared at him. "Walker, aren’t you getting a little too brazen? Is that any way to speak to me?"
Walker Grant’s expression remained cold, but the oppressive air around him only grew stronger. "I just want to settle what happened last night. Lest people get the wrong idea and think you’re a father who can’t tell black from white."
