Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 64: Zero-Frame Startup, Instant Curses
In the afternoon, Chloe Reed and Iris Yates returned from a shopping trip to find someone standing at their front door.
The man was leaning against the wall, his suit worn casually. He wasn’t wearing a tie, and the top two buttons of his white shirt were undone, giving him a roguish, untamed air.
"You damn scumbag, what are you doing here?!" Iris Yates saw him and wasted no time letting the curses fly.
Walker Grant didn’t spare her a single glance, his eyes fixed on Chloe Reed, who stood behind her.
"Come with me to the hospital."
Chloe Reed’s lips curled into a sarcastic sneer. "Why? So I can kneel and apologize to your nephew?"
It was as if seeing him made all her hackles rise; she would attack indiscriminately the moment he got close.
Walker Grant’s sharp brows furrowed. He straightened up, walked over, and seized her hand. "You’re not going to be kneeling and apologizing to anyone. Someone is going to be kneeling and apologizing to you."
He pressed the elevator button. The car hadn’t gone down, so the doors opened almost immediately.
Chloe Reed tried to pull her hand away, but he only tightened his grip, leading her into the elevator.
Iris Yates followed them in.
Walker Grant shot her an icy glare. "This has nothing to do with you. Get out."
But Iris Yates just tilted her chin up. "I’d like to see just how you’re going to make someone kneel and apologize to Chloe. If you can’t, then you’re just this!"
She held up her pinky finger.
Her disdain couldn’t have been more obvious.
Walker Grant couldn’t be bothered with her. He just kept holding Chloe Reed’s hand, unwilling to let go in the slightest.
She was still struggling, so he turned back to her. "Didn’t you already agree?"
At his words, Chloe Reed froze. Her expression soured, and the sarcastic glint in her glistening eyes intensified.
"That’s right. If you hadn’t brought it up, I would’ve forgotten."
’She had agreed to Judith Pierce’s demands; she still had to keep up appearances.’
’But, from the looks of it, did he already know what Judith Pierce had planned?’
’Then how did he have the nerve to come and pester her?’
’Is he addicted to bullying her or something?’
Walker Grant felt that something was inexplicably wrong. After he’d spoken, her expression had grown even colder.
’Why, though?’
’Didn’t she agree not to get a divorce?’
’As far as he was concerned, they had already made up.’
Walker Grant’s brow furrowed. He wanted to say something, but held his tongue, mindful that they weren’t alone.
The tense atmosphere persisted all the way to the hospital.
As soon as they entered the hospital room, they saw a maid standing inside, her face pale and filled with terror.
It wasn’t just the maid; Charles Reed and Autumn Linton were there as well.
Seeing them, Charles Reed’s voice was grave. "Walker, what’s the meaning of summoning us all here with such fanfare?"
THWACK!
Walker Grant tossed the tablet in his hand onto the hospital bed. "Take a look. This is the testimony I got from a few of the other kids."
Charles Reed’s expression darkened further. "What kind of attitude is that?"
Walker Grant ignored him, turning instead to the maid. He gestured with his chin. "Your turn to talk."
The maid dropped to her knees with a thud, her face a mask of terror. "I... I know I was wrong. The truth is, I didn’t see anything last night. I just... I just can’t stand the Second Young Madam’s ways. I hate her, so I wanted to teach her a lesson. I know I was wrong, I really know I was wrong..."
She kowtowed toward Chloe Reed. "Second Young Madam, I beg you, please forgive me."
Walker Grant sat on the hospital bed and pulled Noah Grant into his arms. He asked in a gentle voice, "Noah, tell your uncle, did anyone kick you last night?"
