Chloe Reed dodged his hand and pressed on with her question. "Who got blacklisted?"

Walker Grant stared at her, the slight curve of his lips fading. "It’s getting late." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Chloe Reed ignored him, turning to the manager instead. "You blacklisted me, didn’t you?"

The manager immediately avoided her gaze. His shifty expression said it all.

"Hah!"

Chloe Reed crossed her arms and sneered. "Is your place the only one in all of Breyburn that gives foot massages?"

She turned on her heel and stormed out.

Iris Yates, who had been standing to the side, stared with wide, unbelieving eyes. "You scumbag! How can you be such a bastard? So you’re allowed to be all flirty and intimate with your sister-in-law, but my Chloe can’t even come out for a relaxing massage?"

A layer of frost seemed to cover Walker Grant’s dark eyes. "And which of your eyes saw me being ’flirty and intimate’ with her?"

Iris Yates scoffed. "Do I need to? The rumors are all over our social circle. Seriously, have some decency. If you like your sister-in-law so much, then go be with her! Why are you wasting Chloe’s time?"

Walker Grant’s voice was grim. "So you didn’t see anything, you’re just running your mouth? Did what happened last time not teach you a lesson?"

"You!"

Iris Yates’s expression immediately soured.

She shot Walker Grant a venomous glare. "You’re so tough, you’re so powerful, but your wife still doesn’t want you!"

With that, she turned and stormed off.

Nathaniel Monroe, standing nearby, couldn’t help but comment, "She’s got some serious nerve. Even I wouldn’t dare cuss you out like that!"

Walker Grant shot him a chilling glance. "What? Do you want to cuss me out?"

"No, no, no!" Nathaniel Monroe hastily waved his hands and shook his head. "Walker, you misunderstood. That’s not what I meant."

Walker Grant coldly retracted his gaze and headed out of the establishment.

But once outside, there was no sign of Chloe Reed.

A suffocating tightness gripped his chest.

Just then, his phone rang. He took it out and answered, "Hello?"

Miles Hawthorne’s cheerful voice came through the line. "So you’re out of the hospital? Does that mean you can drink? I’ve been back for a few days; how about we get the guys together?"

Walker Grant looked out at the world, now shrouded in twilight. "Send me the address."

"..."

In the car, Iris Yates was still cursing up a storm.

She turned to Chloe Reed. "By the way, what was all that about earlier? You’re not getting divorced anymore?"

Chloe Reed’s breath hitched. "Yeah," she said. "We’re not, for the time being."

Seeing the tense look on her friend’s face, Iris Yates’s intuition told her something was definitely wrong.

She changed the subject. "In that case, have you told Miles Hawthorne?"

Chloe Reed froze. "I forgot..."

Iris Yates said, "Well, give him a call now and tell him. Don’t let him go to all that trouble for nothing."

With one thing happening after another lately, Chloe Reed had completely forgotten she’d asked Miles Hawthorne to handle the divorce proceedings.

She quickly called Miles Hawthorne.

"I was just about to call you, and here you are," came Miles Hawthorne’s cheerful voice. "Is this what they call being on the same wavelength?"

Chloe Reed ran a hand through her hair. "Yeah, I guess you could say that. There’s something I need to tell you. It’s just..."

"It’s probably better if we talk in person," Miles Hawthorne said. "I’ll send you an address. Why don’t you come over?"

Chloe Reed thought for a moment. He was right. She agreed, "Okay, I’ll be there soon."

The address Miles Hawthorne sent was for a high-end club—a comprehensive venue for leisure, entertainment, and business karaoke.
