Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 71: Even More Displeased
After Chloe Reed and Iris Yates arrived, they sent Miles Hawthorne a message.
Miles Hawthorne came out to meet them.
A gentle, faint smile on his face, he said, "Let’s go. My friends are having a get-together here. You can hang out for a bit before going home."
Chloe Reed shook her head. "No, thanks. Iris and I have been out shopping all day and we’re a little tired. I just came to tell you... let’s forget about the divorce."
Miles Hawthorne looked slightly surprised to hear that. "Why?"
They were standing in the lobby’s seating area, and Miles Hawthorne’s figure was conveniently obscured by a large, ornamental plant.
Anyone passing by could only see Chloe Reed talking to someone, with Iris Yates standing beside her.
She looked across at him with a serious expression and said, "Let’s not get divorced for now. If we wait a while, maybe it won’t be so complicated."
A flicker of something crossed Miles Hawthorne’s eyes before he slowly nodded. "Alright. But if you need any help later on, just let me know anytime. After all, I’ve known you for so long, and I still want you to be happy."
Chloe Reed’s lips curved into a smile, her gaze softening. "Thank you."
Miles Hawthorne raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure you don’t want to come up for a bit? They’re all classmates and friends you know."
"No, thanks."
Chloe Reed turned to leave, but a waiter hurried past from behind her.
She wasn’t paying attention and bumped into the waiter, stumbling backward.
Miles Hawthorne reached out and caught her just in time, saving her from a fall.
And this exact scene was witnessed by Walker Grant, who was just walking in the door.
She was coming out of a man’s embrace, and she even turned back to smile at him, her face flushed.
One moment she’s leaving a massage parlor.
The next, she’s here.
’Is she doing this just to spite me?’
Just then, Nathaniel Monroe keenly pointed out, "Walker, isn’t that your wife...?"
Walker’s tone was frigid. "I’m not blind."
Nathaniel Monroe: "..."
They watched as Chloe Reed said something to the man and then turned to leave.
Walker’s mood soured even more.
Nathaniel Monroe shot him a cautious glance, rubbed his nose, and asked, "Walker, are we still going in?"
"We’re going. Why wouldn’t we?"
Walker’s tone was cold as he strode toward the elevator.
However, when they reached the private room, he was surprised to find Sunny Reed there as well.
Miles Hawthorne said with a smile, "Walker, you’re here. I called up all the friends I could reach. It’s really been so many years since we’ve all seen each other. Everyone has changed so much."
Walker Grant’s dark, deep-set eyes glanced at Sunny Reed. "You’re here, so where’s Noah?"
Noah was still in the hospital.
’And she, his mother, isn’t even with him?’
Sunny Reed spoke up, "Miles Hawthorne finally came back, so I had to stop by. I’ve already arranged for the nanny and a caregiver to look after Noah. I’ll just stay for a little bit and then leave."
Walker Grant’s expression grew colder. "Noah is still sick. You shouldn’t be here."
Sunny Reed’s face turned grim.
Miles Hawthorne stepped in. "Don’t be like that. I was the one who asked her to come. I didn’t know her child was in the hospital. It’s all my fault, so please don’t fight."
Walker Grant sat down directly on the sofa.
Sunny Reed stood up, about to leave.
But Miles Hawthorne said, "You’re already here, why not have a drink with us first? We’re old friends who haven’t seen each other in years. We should all keep in touch more and help each other out from now on."
Since he’d put it that way, Sunny Reed had no choice but to pick up her glass.
However, her hand was a little unsteady, and she spilled some of her drink on her clothes.
She said, "I’ll go clean this up. You guys go ahead and drink."
She headed to the restroom.
