Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Introducing a Date to My Husband

Selene Adler’s expression was conflicted and hesitant. After a moment, she suddenly looked up at Chloe Reed and said, "I don’t regret it. I believe I can change him."

Chloe Reed’s lips twitched. "Then good luck to you."

She stopped looking at Selene Adler.

Inside, she was in agony.

It felt as if a steel wire were strangling her heart, each throb a new wave of searing pain.

’Setting up my own husband with another woman.’

Hah!

’To think I’d actually stoop to this.’

She picked up her spoon and agitatedly stirred her coffee, her frustration mounting once more.

She didn’t know how much time had passed before a sound came from the entrance.

Chloe Reed instinctively looked up to see Walker Grant’s tall, well-built figure approaching.

A complicated look filled her eyes. Just a moment ago, she had been wishing he wouldn’t show up.

But now, he had already strode right up to her. His long, dark, almond-shaped eyes were fixed on her, a smile playing in their depths.

"Catching up with a friend?"

He glanced at Selene Adler, not recognizing her.

He then pulled out the chair beside Chloe Reed and sat down, draping his arm naturally around the back of her seat in a half-embrace, a gesture brimming with possessiveness.

Chloe Reed suppressed the turmoil in her heart. "This is a new friend of mine, Selene Adler," she said. "She’s a finance graduate and is having a tough time finding a job. Do you have any openings for her?"

Listening to her, Walker Grant raised a handsome brow. "Are you asking me to pull some strings?"

Chloe Reed met his gaze calmly. "Can I?"

It had been a long time since she had looked at him so calmly.

His heart gave a little flutter. A smile played on his lips as he said, "Of course. Anything for Mrs. Grant."

He looked at Selene Adler. "You can start tomorrow."

Selene Adler was thrilled. "Okay."

Her eyes sparkled with delight. Her heart had been pounding ever since Walker Grant appeared.

Chloe Reed’s grip on her spoon tightened. She took a deep breath and said, "Since she’s about to be your secretary, shouldn’t you two exchange contact information?"

But Walker Grant replied, "She can just get in touch with Dylan Finch."

Dylan Finch was his executive assistant, in charge of managing all the secretaries, arranging his schedule, and participating in project planning.

Chloe Reed lowered her gaze slightly but persisted, "You should add her anyway. That way, if something happens to you while you’re out, she can contact me right away."

Walker Grant studied her unnaturally calm face, then leaned in closer. "Worried about me?"

"Mhm."

His presence enveloped her, making it hard for her to breathe.

The ache in her heart grew sharper.

She couldn’t bear to stay a moment longer.

But her objective wasn’t met yet.

’How were they supposed to get to know each other if they didn’t exchange numbers?’

She fought to suppress her emotions and looked up at him. "Just add her."

"Alright." Walker Grant took out his phone. "Whatever you say."

Selene Adler, who had been waiting, scanned his code and sent a friend request.

But Walker Grant put his phone away, turning instead to take Chloe Reed’s hand. "Are you two done talking?"

But Chloe Reed pulled her hand away. "Not yet. We just got here, and we’re planning to go shopping later."

But Walker Grant pressed, "Chloe, you have to save some time for me, too."

But just as the words left his mouth, his phone rang. It was that special, dedicated ringtone again.

Chloe Reed closed her eyes, her frustration reaching its peak. She shot to her feet. "I’m going to the restroom."
