She turned and hurried toward the restroom.

Walker sensed something was wrong, but the phone kept ringing, so he didn’t go after her. He answered the call. "What is it?"

"Uncle, it’s me!"

Noah’s young voice came from the other end of the line.

Walker’s tone instantly softened. "Oh, it’s you, Noah. What’s wrong?"

Noah said, "Come play with me, Uncle. Mom’s not home, and I’m bored."

Walker’s brows furrowed instantly. "Where did your mother go?"

"I don’t know," Noah’s voice was glum. "Can we go to the amusement park?"

Walker said, "I’ll call your mother."

But as soon as the words left his mouth, he remembered this was Sunny Reed’s number.

’Did Sunny Reed give Noah her phone and just leave?’

’After the incident at the bar, I can’t believe she’d dare to do it again.’

A flicker of displeasure crossed Walker’s eyes, but his tone was gentle. "Wait a little bit, Noah. Uncle will be there soon to get you."

"Okay, okay! I’ll wait for you, Uncle."

The little guy was overjoyed and hung up, chuckling.

Walker got up to find Chloe Reed. He planned to take her with him.

"Mr. Grant."

Just then, Selene Adler also stood up, watching him with a somewhat reserved expression.

Walker glanced at her. "Yes?"

Selene summoned her courage and said, "Could you give me a brief overview of my job responsibilities? I’m worried I might make a mistake if I just show up tomorrow, and I don’t want to waste your time."

But Walker said coolly, "I’ll give you a number. Contact him, and he’ll tell you what you need to do."

He grabbed a nearby napkin, asked a server for a pen, wrote down a number, and slid it in front of her. Then he turned and left.

Selene glanced at the number, then at his retreating figure, and bit her lip in excitement.

...

Chloe splashed cold water on her face, which finally calmed her agitated mood.

But when she walked out of the restroom, she saw him standing not far away, waiting for her.

Her brows drew together, her voice turning chilly. "What are you doing here?"

Walker, however, took her hand. When he felt how cold her fingertips were, he squeezed it a little tighter and said, "Come with me to get Noah."

"I’m not going."

Chloe immediately shook her head in refusal.

But Walker stared at her intently. "Chloe, you have to come with me. If you’re by my side, you can see how I treat Noah, and you won’t misunderstand me."

Chloe had just managed to suppress her frustration, but his words made it bubble up again.

"I said I’m not going! Don’t you understand plain English?!"

That familiar look of coldness and disgust surfaced in her eyes.

Walker’s sharp brows furrowed, and he yanked her in front of him. "How will you know you’ve misunderstood me if you don’t go? You have to."

"You bastard!"

Chloe raised her purse to hit him, but he grabbed it and casually held it in his hand.

Then, he took her by the hand and started walking outside.

Selene was still waiting for them, only to see them leave the coffee shop in such a state.

Her expression soured. She stepped forward and said, "Chloe, weren’t we going shopping together?"

But Walker said, "My wife and I have something to take care of. You two can get together another day." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"I want to go shopping."

Chloe spoke up, surprisingly grateful to Selene in that moment.

Walker stared at her intently, his aura turning frigid. The air between them crackled with tension once again, thick with the scent of gunpowder.

"Why are you suddenly so unhappy? Noah is just a little kid, and you’re his aunt. What’s wrong with playing with him?" he asked in a low voice.
