Chapter 93: This Is How I Hit People
SLAP!
"Ah!"
No one had expected Chloe Reed to suddenly rush out. Sunny Reed shrieked in pain from the slap and quickly covered her head.
The nanny was startled, too. It was only after Sunny Reed had taken several slaps that she stepped forward to intervene.
Chloe Reed was breathing erratically as she said coldly, "I hadn’t hit you, but you wanted to put on a show and make him think I did. Fine, I’ll grant you your wish."
Then, she turned to Walker, her gaze growing even sharper. "You’d better get a good look. This is how I hit someone. I wouldn’t just give her a little painless shove. What would be the point of that?"
Walker was stunned by her actions, but he still walked over and grabbed her hand.
"What are you doing? Let me go!"
Chloe struggled, her emotions running high.
Sunny Reed cupped her face and said, "Walker, don’t do anything rash. My sister just misunderstood me. I’m fine..."
’He must be about to teach Chloe a lesson to stand up for me,’ she thought.
’If he really lays a hand on her, there’s no going back for them.’
But Walker didn’t say a word. His handsome face was exceptionally dark, and the air around him had turned ice-cold.
He dragged Chloe into the elevator by the wrist, then turned to the nanny and said, "Take her back inside. And watch Noah."
The nanny’s face was pale. "Ah, yes, of course..."
The elevator doors slowly slid shut.
Sunny Reed was left completely stunned.
’What was that about?’
’Why didn’t he do anything?’
’He didn’t punish her, fine. But I was beaten so badly, and he couldn’t even get an apology for me?’
"Ma’am, let me get you some ice," the nanny said, noticing the shifting expressions on her face.
Sunny Reed closed her eyes, suppressing the shock deep inside, then turned and went back into the apartment.
Noah Grant was sitting on the sofa, his nose red from crying, looking utterly pathetic.
Sunny Reed walked over and pulled him into her arms.
But the next second, Noah only cried harder.
"Noah, don’t cry. Mommy’s back."
Sunny Reed cooed, holding him in a death grip.
But far from being comforted, Noah’s crying intensified. His little body struggled and squirmed, trying to break free from Sunny Reed’s embrace.
The nanny returned with the ice. Seeing this, she said, "Ma’am, maybe it’s best to let the young master play by himself."
"What ’young master’?" Sunny Reed retorted. "Without his father’s love, what’s the difference between him and a homeless stray?"
The nanny was at a loss for words.
’How was she supposed to respond to that?’
Sunny Reed didn’t loosen her grip. The tighter she held Noah, the harder the child in her arms cried.
The nanny watched on, finding the whole thing very strange.
’But she was just a nanny; she couldn’t get too involved in her employers’ business.’
Watching Noah cry, Sunny Reed suddenly said, "Why are you so useless? Is it because you’re not pathetic enough that your uncle doesn’t feel sorry for you?"
Noah couldn’t understand what she was saying; he just kept crying his heart out.
...
The atmosphere in the elevator was heavy.
With her wrist still in his grip, Chloe’s expression was grim.
Flames of anger still burned in her eyes as she tried to put some distance between herself and the man beside her.
Her arm was suspended awkwardly in the space between them, creating a ridiculously comical sight.
She sneered. "You’re still holding on to me. Are you planning on getting revenge for Sunny? Are you going to punish me?"
Walker remained silent. His eyes were deep and unreadable, betraying none of the emotion he felt.
