Picking up Girls With My System
Chapter 473: Moving Statues
Each statue had the power of a rank 1 mage at its peak. So, that was problematic. Both Arthur and Myla only had the strength of the early stage of rank 1.
"What do we do?" Myla said, her gaze falling on Arthur’s face, hoping that he had an answer for that.
Arthur didn’t know. He looked around the coliseum, not focusing solely on the statues but on other things that might help him.
Sometimes, the answers weren’t in front of him, but in the small details.
With his Emperor Eye, one of the Forbidden Eyes, Arthur could see things others couldn’t.
However, there was nothing there that could help him. It was just a coliseum with no one watching, and massive statues that wished to kill him and Myla.
"I think we must fight again," he said, "you said this trial is about endurance. So maybe it is as simple as it seems. No hidden way out. Just fight."
Arthur got up and stared at the statues coming their way. 8 in total.
Myla wanted to help, but he gestured for her to step aside and let him handle the fight.
"This won’t be easy. Let me first check their powers. Watch everything, and make sure to write down everything important."
He would be the one testing the waters. Between the two, although they were both with their powers locked at rank 1, Arthur was much stronger. So, it was best for him to fight first, with Myla watching from a distance and checking for weaknesses or anything that might help in the fight.
Arthur had something he could use to have a better chance in that fight: his Unseen Truth Eye.
With it, he could see one second in the future. That allowed him to see the attacks before they happened, making it way easier to dodge.
It was basically a cheat power. But for it to work, Arthur needed to have enough strength to actually dodge the attacks. It would be useless to see the attack but lack the speed to dodge it.
The statues had different weapons. Not all of them were trying to get close to Arthur. Three of them stayed on the very edge of the coliseum, preparing long-range attacks to hit him.
One had a bow in their hands, the other had a staff, and the last one had javelins on its back.
’This makes things harder,’ he thought, frowning.
A statue with a two-handed sword increased its speed when it got close enough to him. It swung the massive two-handed sword, trying to cut Arthur in half!
The power behind the attack was tremendously high. Arthur felt it before it even reached him, with gasps of wind moving his clothes and hair.
However, with the Unseen Truth Eye, he saw the path the sword would take. Arthur side-stepped to the side, avoiding the attack completely.
But when the sword hit the ground, a crater formed, and the impact destabilized Arthur. He almost tripped.
The other statues were closer to him, too, and another attack came toward him. This time, the statue had a spear! Its attack had a much longer range. That was the benefit of using a spear.
Arthur focused on his eye, and a quick vision showed up. He saw himself jumping to avoid the spear, but getting hit by the arrow while in the air!
’So jumping is not the right move,’ he realized.
He decided to block the spear by creating a blood shield. The spear hit the shield, but it didn’t have the power to break it.
Above his head, a massive arrow passed by, flying, missing the target. It pierced the ground.
Myla was far away, watching the fight unfold before her eyes. The statues had quick attacks; however, Arthur avoided them all.
’How is he doing that?’ she wondered.
She never thought, not even for a second, that Arthur had the power to see one second in the future. That was just beyond her comprehension. Only deities would have such a thing.
Arthur knew he couldn’t keep dodging the attacks and not hitting back. He used his blood essence to form the blood sword.
With quick movements, he ran toward the statue with the spear and tried to cut its legs.
"Blood Slash!"
A horizontal blood energy formed around his sword, increasing its power. The sword cut through the statue’s leg, destroying both of them!
The statue fell to the ground because it didn’t have the legs to support its weight anymore.
He heard Myla’s voice from far away, rejoicing after witnessing his attack.
"You did it!"
Arthur wasn’t as optimistic as her. The statue certainly had more to it than just that.
When the statues heard Myla’s voice, three of them decided to ignore Arthur completely and move toward her!
"Oh no," Myla cursed.
Arthur, with his sword in hand, tried to give a final blow to the statue. Changing targets wasn’t a good idea.
What he needed the most was to diminish their numbers, as that would make his life much easier. Trying to dodge so many attacks was difficult, even with his Forbidden Eye.
"Die!"
Arthur jumped high, using both hands to hold the sword. He fell straight toward the statue’s face and pierced the sword through it!
The statue’s head exploded with the attack. It stopped moving.
After dealing with that one, Arthur dodged the attacks that came his way—another two-handed sword attack, and a few flying javelins.
He ignored those statues and ran toward Myla. He had to help her.
Myla didn’t stand still, obviously. She channeled her mana, creating a powerful fire barrier that stood 20 meters tall!
But the statues, being pure stone, ignored the fire completely. They just kept walking, passing by the wall of flames as if it were nothing.
Her attacks weren’t having the same effect as Arthur’s.
Arthur saw it, and then, something clicked inside his mind. A plan was formed.
’This might work. I’m so stupid.’
